Smashing Pumpkins Lose H.O.R.D.E. Date, Play Cheap Trick Show

The first date of the Smashing Pumpkins Adore tour was an unannounced set opening for Cheap Trick at the third of four shows at the Metro in Chicago on Saturday night. The Pumpkins' eight-song set was well-received by the crowd of Cheap Trick fans, and band leader Billy Corgan reportedly joined the Tricksters on stage for two numbers. Smashing Pumpkins will kick off a series of European dates with new members drummer Kenny Aronoff, keyboardist Stephen Hodges, multi-instrumentalist Lisa Germano and percussionist Dan Morris on May 14th in Germany.

The band is then expected to begin a full U.S. tour in July, with several dates on the H.O.R.D.E. tour already announced, though Performance magazine reports that the Pumpkins have pulled out of the opening date of the H.O.R.D.E. tour, scheduled for July 9th in Somerset, Wisconsin, due to scheduling conflicts.
