I swear to God, it was the best day of my life! It was my first Goo
concert, and the experience is a blur, but I will write it down the best I
can.
The night before the concert, Friday, April 9, I could barely sleep. I
finally did, and when my alarm went off at 7:00 a.m. on the 10th, I zoomed
out of bed. I wanted to get to Peoria really early, and I live around
Chicago, so I knew it would be a long drive. I woke my dad up, who was to
be my chauffeur for the day, and by 9:00, we were out of the house. It took
us about 4 hours to get there, and when we did, the Goo Goo Doll tour bus
wasn't there yet. Me and my dad walked over to this restaurant/bar to get
lunch, I had a salad, and spilled ranch dressing all over the front of my
black turtleneck! :(! Then we had to run over to the Walgreen's to get some
shout wipes to try to get the stain out of my shirt, which they didn't, so I
ended up turning my shirt backwards and wearing my jacket for the rest of
the day.
I guess I should skip to the exciting part, huh? Nothing happens for a
while, and I am just waiting outside the bus, no one else is around. Then,
Mike comes out from the bus. I whisper, "oh my God," and shout hi to him.
He signs my DUTG pull out, (ya know, the little book that comes with the CD)
twice because I had a really crappy pen, and it didn't show up the first
time he signed it. The next exciting things happen at around 4:00 p.m.
For the past half and hour, I had been sitting outside the bus alone
listening to the Goos talk. They were watching a sitcom, I couldn't tell
which one, but I could tell that it was a sitcom because I could hear the
laugh track. Soon, a few more fans come, there was GooGirl and her group,
and this guy and his two friends. I talked to them for a little while (we
were all like die-hard fans, so we discussed their older music and stuff)
and then THEY came out! Robby and John walked out of the bus, and I almost
died! I ran to Robby first, got his autograph, and I couldn't talk! He
told me that he had seen me waiting outside, and all I could manage was to
nod my head. I asked him if I could get a picture, and he put his arm
around my shoulder and we got our picture taken. Next, I zipped over to
John, got his autograph and my picture taken with him. He put his arm
around my waist for the picture, and I was on the brink of passing out!
Then Mike walked out again, and I didn't have my camera ready, so I didn't
my picture with him :(, but had gotten his autograph, so all was cool. Then
I talked to the members of this little Goo fan group that had been waiting
outside, and Nathan walked out. I got my pic taken with him, his cigarette
was a foot away from my face, but it was still cool!
Then I went out to see the most amazing concert ever! I was jumping up and
down and singing along to every song they sang. I am hoping to repeat this
amazing experience when the Goos come to Milwaukee in August!
The Goo Goo Dolls are the nicest guys ever. They were busy, and still took
the time to say hi to a few fans! They aren't stuck up or anything, and seem
like humble, down to earth guys. Everyone, do yourself a favor and buy
tickets to the next Goo concert that comes to your area. I promise it is
something you will NEVER forget. God knows that I never will!
