Garth Brooks Shatters Venue Records In Las Vegas
Ticket Master -- July 18 --True to form, Garth Brooks blew out the cobwebs on the Thomas & Mack Arena record book this weekend, rolling into four shows that sold an estimated 72,000 tickets in five hours. As noted last week in Live! Daily, the holder of the venue's record for quickest sellout, highest concert attendance and largest concert grosses is Garth Brooks, having set those records on his 1993 tour.
On Saturday, Brooks bested two of the three marks (total concert grosses won't be tallied until after the shows happen), selling out the first night in 52 minutes (previous mark - 59 minutes) and moving about 72,000 tickets versus his 1993 draw of 54,000 tickets for three nights.
The shows, August 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th represent Brooks' closest approximation to a Southern California / Arizona swing for the time being, since he hit those markets near the beginning of the tour in 1996. Brooks currently has two album packages on the pop album charts -- Sevens, which currently rests in the #62 slot in its 33rd week out, and his box set, The Limited Series, which drops to #30 after 10 weeks. Brooks is reportedly finishing work on a live album to be released for the holiday season.
