Garth Brooks Honors 4 Millionth Ticket Buyers in Evansville, IN
NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--May 4, 1998--Garth Brooks has sold over 4 million tickets on his current sold-out concert tour that began in March 1996. On Friday (May 1) he surprised the 4 millionth ticket buyers at the second of his four sold-out shows at Roberts Stadium in Evansville, IN.
Greg and Melissa Siener had no idea when they came to the concert that they had purchased the lucky ticket. When they were invited backstage by two of Brooks' crew members prior to his show, they were showered with gifts and applause from Brooks, his wife Sandy, his parents, and his band and crew. Trisha Yearwood, Brooks' special guest at the shows, was also on hand to extend her congratulations, along with her band and crew. The gifts included tour merchandise, ten dozen red roses, a Sony video camera and a 35 mm Olympus camera.
As he has on previous million ticket milestones, Brooks explained that this was a celebration of the overwhelming support he's received while on tour, and something he wished he could do for everyone who bought tickets to his concerts. He then described the Sieners' grand gift package, consisting of four elements: a four-day, four-night trip to one of four Florida resort locations: $4,000 spending money for the trip; golf clubs -- Ping irons and Calloway woods for Greg, a set of King Cobras for Melissa; and a Chevrolet Suburban which was driven inside the backstage doors as the Sieners watched in disbelief.
Brooks' tour continues through 1998 with announced stops in Nashville, TN (May 8-10); Lexington, KY (May 15-17); and Louisville, KY (May 20-23).
On Tuesday, May 5, Brooks releases his first boxed set, The Limited Series, which includes his first six multi-platinum releases, as well as six new cuts for a total of 66 songs and over three hours of music. The package will also include a new photo booklet commemorating Brooks' career to date.
Brooks' next single, ``To Make You Feel My Love,'' was written by Bob Dylan and ships to country radio today. It is included on the boxed set, as well as the soundtrack for the feature film Hope Floats, starring Sandra Bullock and Harry Connick, Jr. The movie opens in theaters at the end of May.
