Garth Brooks Hits No. 1 on Video Charts With "Garth Live From Central Park" Concert Home Video

NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Feb. 10, 1998--Garth Live From Central Park, the live concert event of 1997, is now the concert home video event of 1998.

From EMI-Capitol Entertainment Properties, Garth Live From Central Park debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Home Video chart for Feb. 2, 1998, and remains at the top spot on Feb. 9 -- ranking above the debut of the latest Spice Girls home video. Released Jan. 20, in conjunction with Capitol Records and distributed in the United States by Orion Home Video, the two-hour home video of Brooks' landmark Aug. 7 concert is also No. 1 on the Music Video chart of trade magazine Video Business.

Combined sales totals for Garth Live From Central Park in its first two weeks on the video shelves are 23,150 units (10,905 in week one and 12,245 in week two), according to SoundScan. However, E-Prop's actual sales figures indicate that upwards of 45,000 units have been purchased by consumers to date; the difference being that many video retailers do not report to SoundScan. E-Prop executives also note that retailers have already requested re-orders matching 25 percent of their initial shipments.

Brooks, who has sold more albums than any solo artist in American music history, drew the largest crowd ever at New York's Central Park for a free concert -- an event which was also cablecast live on HBO. The home video features the Country Music Association's Entertainer of the Year performing more than 20 of his hit songs. E-Prop also markets Brooks' entire musical catalog, handling every album other than his current one, Sevens (Capitol), which debuted on both Billboard's Top 200 Album Chart and Top Country Album Chart at No. 1.
