Garth Brooks to Perform on
People's Choice Awards Jan. 11 on CBS-TV
LOS ANGELES--Dec. 19, 1997--Multiple award-winning singer/songwriter and six-time People's Choice Awards winner Garth Brooks will perform during the "24th Annual People's Choice Awards," the first awards show of the year to be broadcast live from Santa Monica, Calif. on Sunday, Jan. 11, (9 p.m.-11 p.m. ET/live; delayed 9 p.m.-11 p.m./PT) on the CBS television network.
Brooks, who has been voted Favorite Male Musical Performer for six consecutive years and is among the three top vote-getters in the same category this year, will perform his new song "She's Gonna Make It" from his best-selling album, "Sevens."
The People's Choice Awards are unique in that the winners are chosen by their fans, unlike other major entertainment awards, which are bestowed by peer-group associations or industry insiders.
For more than two decades, the Gallup Organization has conducted a representative sampling of more than 211 million Americans who select their preferred television shows and motion pictures and their favorite actors and actresses, as well as the most popular singers and music groups. No names or nominees are provided; those polled can vote for any television show, motion picture, music group or performer they choose.
Multiple award-winner Walter C. Miller is producer of the "24th Annual People's Choice Awards." Hollywood columnist Army Archerd is associate producer and Emmy Award-winning Louis J. Horvitz is director for Procter & Gamble Productions Inc. The special is fully sponsored by products of Procter & Gamble, which is represented by TeleVest, supervisors of the broadcast.
