Title: Official Song List
Post by Shade on Sep 3rd, 2010, 7:05pm
Since a new album and b-sides just came out and we have new members and will surely have more, I thought it might be beneficial for all to have a list of all the Goo's different recordings, as well as where to find them. Feel free to let me know what I missed and I'll add it to the list--I'm gonna need a lot of help, especially wherever I put a '?'.

Ok, help I can give offhand:
Catch Me Now I'm Falling is by the Kinks (tsk, tsk, Drew!), Hit or Miss is by the Damned, Rough Boys is Pete Townshend, Fast Car is by Tracy Chapman, and Jenny (867-5309) is by Tommy Tutone.

I've got a song list on my site (http://was.empathy-bound.com/dtgt.html) (new stuff isn't posted yet), so I'm scrolling through now to see if I can find anything you missed... This post may be edited. ;)

B-sides:
Stand Alone
Pride is kind of a b-side, kind of an I-don't-know-what. :P

Studio covers:
I Want to Destroy You (Soft Boys)
Bitch (Rolling Stones)
Nothing Can Change You (Tommy Keene)
I'll Be There For You (The Rembrandts) - not sure if this is studio or live?

There was also the time they did Baby Love live, on Leno I think; but it was only part of the song. (sidenote: if anyone can find me the video of this I will legitimately love you forever.)

Do you want to include John's solo stuff too? In which case there's...
I'm Still Here
Always Know Where You Are
Once in a Lifetime / Good Morning Miami theme

Collaborations/covers of:
For Your Love (Yardbirds)
All I Want is You (U2)
Wish You Were Here (Pink Floyd) - live

This contains the most parentheses I've ever used in a single post. :)

Awesome thread Drew!!! I love how innovative you all are lately. I'll definitely pin this to the top.

No, those ones were just John.... sorry for the confusion!
I forgot all about I See You Everywhere, I think that might've only been John as well? I'm going from memory at this point.

For Your Love is definitely a studio recording.

I have it.  But I think you've already promised to love me forever.  :D

cool, nice to have. I was wondering a few weeks ago how anybody would hear about a John Rzeznik song because "I'm still here" is such an amazing song. It's such a shame that it's considered a "john Rzeznik" song and not a good song. It's better than most of the albums in recent years. I fell in love the first time I heard it.

Ugh, I have to come up with something better than eternal love, then, don't I... hmmmmmm. Let me think on this ;)

The cover "King of the Road", if I remember correctly Robby was singing that...
original artist was Roger Miller.

(it makes me feel reeeeeeeal old to know that without using google. damn.)

I found a reference to "White Trash Wagon" on this website called the World of Goo message board...never heard of 'em, lol:

http://www.musicfanclubs.org/cgi-bin/ggd/YaBB.cgi?board=maingooboard;action=display;num=1108964331

Fuelie says it's something John did; not sure if he made it up, or what.

Remember Fuelie?

There's also some sftr0u person who knows of this ditty as well; says it's a song John said he used to sing about his car:

hilarious. love the intensity.

(Now Christina has to find me the video of John wearing the plaid skirt/dress. Thanx in advance, lol.)

Running in quickly, but another B-side I think is missing is:
I Don't Want To Know (Fleetwood Mac).
That was a B-side on my Iris single, I think, along with Nothing Can Change you...

Ahhh, memories! This is an excellent thread. I don't think I knew about You Shook Me All Night Long, I'll have to go hunting for that later!

DWG, thanks for trawling up the vid for Baby Love, awesome!

And Pon, I agree. I love I'm Still Here, I wish we could consider it part of the Goo-verse too.

There, there...we love you for the "counting down" thread, eh?

(You could always go hunting for a video of John wearing a plaid dress. That works for me.)

What an amazing idea for a topic! ;D
I'm sure songs will popup in my mind over the next few days, but here's a few:

On the IM there an exclusive video from Robby covering AC/DC's You Shook Me All Night Long, from some club in Washinton from the LLI tour.
Also there's a mislabeled video called "Live in the UK" with a song that was probably cut from LLI, a very nice song btw.
And then there's a couple of songs from "Recorded live at Capitol Studios, Hollywood, CA, March 27, 2006", but they're really the same songs as are on the Let Love In Live & Intimate DVD.
There's a really cool acoustic piano version of Better Days on the IM as exclusive download, but I believe it's different from the LLI version you listed under Studio Acoustic.

There's a recording of Falling Down acoustic.

At the first few tours the band did quiet a lot different covers, here's a few that I know of:
- Born To Be Wild (Steppenwolf cover)
- Ballroom Blitz (Sweet cover)
- Suspicious Minds (Elvis cover)
- Heartbreak Beat (Psychedelic Furs) w/ Lance Diamond
- Taking Care of Business (Bachman-Turner Overdrive cover)
- Sympathy for the Devil (Rolling Stones cover) mash-up
(you heard me)

There's a recording of I'm Still Here acoustic.

There's a really bad quality recording of the band performing 2 days in February at the doorsteps of the former Trackmaster Audio now GCR Audio.

The official demo tape (was also for sale before the First Release) contained different (most likely studio) recordings of:
Torn Apart, Hardsores, Sunshine Of Your Love, I'm Addicted and Slaughterhouse.

Avril Lavigne did Iris with John.

You want to include unplugged (not really acoustic) and alternate versions of songs too? Because recently they did Iris with John only singing, and they did an unplugged performance with Slide, Home, Smash, SL and AIA.

KROQ Almost Acoustic X-mas: Naked, Impersonality, Long Way Down, Lucky Star.

Atlanta, Georgia (Acoustic) 1996: Girl Right Next To Me, Another Second Time Around, Two Days In February, Impersonality, Name, Don't Change

You might wanna include Live in Alaska too.

There's a bit of the Real demo.

:)

Was the Iris (acoustic) version, the one used in the City of Angels movie, ever officially released? I scowered through a bunch of the Iris and DUTG-era singles and couldn't find it, and it doesn't appear to be on any of the compilation/greatest hits albums.

Is there a difference between Name on "What I learned..." (European release) and Name's "new recording" on the greatest hits album?

The acoustic Iris was officially released on some singles.  The whole song does exist, it's not just ripped from the movie.  Do you want it?

Yes, the two Names are different.  The one on EOAC is a remix and if my memory serves me correctly, it is very subtle difference from the original.  If you have the original, good enough.  The new recording on GHV1 is a completely new recording from 2007.  It sounds more like the live versions than the original recording.  Here's a Youtube video with it.

I still love this topic and I still have to go through my collection to find stuff that's not on the list yet.

A few things that pop my mind..
- John performed Iris in a duet with Taylor Swift a while ago.
- John covered Let It Snow with Holiday Express, during 95.5 WPLJ's Scott & Todd's 19th Annual Live Broadcast, Auction from Blythedale Children's Hospital.
- The band covered Angels by Robby Williams during their 2010 UK tour live on the BBC.
- John performed Rebel Beat acoustic multiple times during his 2013 Spring Radio promo tour.

I went to add the Magnetic tracks only to find I already did it back when the track names were announced. But Come To Me and Bringing on the Light are reversed. Apparently that was the original order. I think I would have liked that order better, especially so I wouldn't hear More Of You start to play every time I finish enjoying Bringing on the Light.

Robby played a little bit of the Real demo during the "Recording For The Rest Of Us" sessions they did in Spring 2010 and I just happen to record it. It's nothing official or anything.

Also there's a studio version of the first Last Hot Night version, the one that was played live. It was used as background music for some sports commercial.
