Post by i dont knO on Jul 18th, 2010, 12:20am
Ummmm need to be asleep 2 hours ago... Just the facts for now. Better review in the future.

Cleveland

One new song - Notbroken (notatypo). Otherwise, standard setlist.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rg0GvWWqy8s

The EP is on sale. $7. Full case. I really like Still Your Song but will need more time to listen to it.

We got POURED on. Under a roof with full sides. I will leave you to think about that.

And onto Detroit! See you tomorrow, Lauren and Shannon!

Greetings from Lauren's house.

Detroit was last night. My day started with the driving experience from hell but then I met up with Lauren and off we went to DTE. We met up with Shannon and Terri in the parking lot and jumped into Shannon's car to listen to the new EP together. :D We hung around together for a while and judged concert fashion choices and then went to watch the show.

Lauren and I were about halfway down into the amphitheater, which is probably the farthest I have ever been from the stage, but our view was pretty good. Parts of the light show are really beautiful and it was kind of cool to take it in from farther back (not that you should ever pass up being closer).

The crowd was pretty lame where we were but it looked more fun in other places. And Lauren and I were awesome enough for our section. :D

It was the same setlist as the night before which was a little disappointing as they had hinted at possibly playing We Are the Normal this summer as well as switching new songs in and out. But it's still a nice long setlist with new material.

John was more chatty in Detroit than Cleveland. I took some banter videos that I will post at some point in time.

Many many thanks to Lauren for putting up with me. And much love to Lauren, Shannon and Terri for being so much fun. It was so nice to get to see you ladies and have a completely drama free night with other fans.

One more 5 hour drive and a visit to customs and I'm back to reality.

(Oh, and it's not done quite yet, but Lauren's 'Eh' count is currently 7)

You should!! You get a passport you literally can go ANYWHERE!! It's worth it!

Show was amazing, I enjoyed it, my favourite Robby song was Tucked Away...not gonna lie I acted like a screaming teenage fan!

The Lead Singer of Switchfoot touched my hand when he came up the aisle!!

Nicole, thank you for putting up with my cats & my alarm clock gone wild.

Shannon & Terri, you two are both amazing <3 I was so excited & happy to see you guys again! :) I can't wait until next time!

The show was totally amazing and so fun to see you guys again.

Terri won meet and greet and soundcheck passes. I was her fortunate +1. I'm gonna write about that in another post because I have some clips from the soundcheck.

I was at Cleveland, section 3 by the water. NO KIDDING we got rained on  :o   Where were you sitting?

I was front row in the middle section - I was closer to section 3.  We were first getting hit from behind the stage and then from the section 3 side, THEN it really did come through the roof.  I still haven't found anyone who can explain that to me.

I took a video of Broadway when it was really coming down and someday, when I am not losing my mind, I will upload it.

What the hell, I might as well add it here.

Tonight was Buffalo. The set list was standard and there was very little talk. They're playing, like, 22 songs in 90 minutes so there's really not much time to screw around in between.

There was a huge threat of huge thunderstorms, but they held out until the doors opened and, while it did rain, it was very mild.

For this show, there was a small pit on the floor in front of the seats. I had pit tickets but had decided I was not going to do the 'wait all day' thing because I had front row in Cleveland and I have third row in Toronto (OMG, why am I going to Toronto?) and I decided I could live with hanging out farther back where I would be comfortable instead of being in that awful pseudo third row GA thing that I hate.

Anyways... weeks ago I had been looking at the Live Nation site for Darien Lake and I was being annoyed by all of the VIP add ons you could buy - $40 for bar access, $20 for preferred parking and a weird little VIP access thing that was $5 and made no sense. And then it hit me two days ago that the weird little $5 VIP thing was early admission to the venue. It's completely pointless for seated shows but for GA shows (or shows with a GA section like Darien), it pretty much means you show up at the time doors open and jump the entire line. The only catch to it was that it was incorrectly labeled on the LN website as some sort of VIP parking and I wasn't so sure it would be accepted. I mean, I didn't want to be crammed in the pit, but I'd do it for front row.

So I asked a friend if she wanted to take a gamble with me and buy these passes for $5. We showed up at about 5:30 and got in line with everyone else and right before doors opened at 6:30, they called for all 'Fast Lane' people to come forward. We were the only two who had passes. And so we skipped the entire line, were let in before everyone else, and went directly to the front row of the pit. (I would feel bad about cutting the line if I just cut the line, but these passes were available to everyone and no one else took them)

Reasons I am sharing this?
1. It was my first time being in the front row in Buffalo, which was lovely.
2. If you come across 'Fast Lane' options for a GA show in the future and they cost $5, DO IT. They work.

Oh, and Switchfoot keeps getting better.  They were decent in Cleveland, then good in Detroit and they were honestly fantastic in Buffalo.  I'm sad they're not opening in Toronto.

That's pretty sweet about the $5 fast lane tickets. I'm gonna have to do that next time. I loved the pit last night. Can't beat being front row for a Buffalo show.

Like you said, 22 songs to cram into 90 minutes isn't a lot at all.

Thanks for the tip about the $5 fast lane. I will definitely look for that at future GA shows. That's just an awesome, affordable upgrade. I'm so glad you were able to get so close.

I was so worried you guys were going to get hit with the thunderstorms. It was wicked here. In fact, power is still out in areas around me. Really, really bad storms. And it looked to be headed straight for you in Buffalo. I'm glad it held out.

Have fun in Toronto. I might've considered it but still need to get a passport or enhanced driver's license. I'm out of Canada until I do that :(
