Hahaha! I was coming on here to ask if people thought it was worth joining the IM to listen to the song, as I let my membership lapse when I was a struggling student... so that's 2 in favour of Home, 2 against Home/joining IM. hmm, decisions, decisions...not sure it's worth $30.....

Awesome! OK, so I cracked and listened and I will post my initial opinion. I like the guitar intro. The tune itself isn't that grabbing, so I was a little bit "meh" on the first listen, but actually, the lyrics, well, that's good work by John. Thank god it's less trite than some of the LLI songs. The guitar breakdown in the middle ALWAYS (both live and proper versions) makes me think the song is about to segue into Stay With You, which is a little jarring, but I'm glad they do at least have some guitar in there. So, uhhh...cautiously....6.5/10. And I suspect it will grow on me. ;)

I really like it! I think it easily blows away most of the songs on Let Love In.

I think part of the lyrics are really awesome. Parts of the songs are done well. Overall, it's just an okay song. I haven't heard a "long way down, big machine, naked, or let love in" yet. Do not plan to buy the album unless I hear something that great.

I don't really like it. Too many bells and whistles and the chorus kind of annoys me...I know a lot of people really like this song but it's kind of refreshing to see a few that think it's just okay...

Not sure if I'll buy the album yet...I'm still waiting to be blown away by a song and that hasn't happened yet although I do like Now I Hear and Sweetest Lie...I just don't love them.

Since it was being discussed in another thread, I suppose I'll post my actual Home opinion now that I've given it a fair chance...

I LOVE Home live. I really really do. I mostly like the lyrics, I love the vocals, I LOVE the guitar solo and the bass/whatever part in the instrumental break. When I listen to this song live or recorded, I feel like it is a perfect song to be played live at an outdoor summer show... which is good because that's going to be happening in a couple months.

My opinion on the studio version is not so positive. It's okay but I don't think it can touch the live version. I feel like the life is kind of sucked out of the studio version.

1. I HATE those clanking noises that are paired with the dulcimer sound (I refer to them as 'clanking goblin chains' because they sound like haunted house sound effects. My hatred for those sounds is right up there with my hatred of the 'tinkling fairy noises' in Become). I feel like there are a lot of unnecessary sound effects in the studio version and they just seem cheesy. A huge issue I had with LLI was all of the lame sound effects and superfluous layers and Home definitely has them as well.

2. The excuse the GGDs have given for going back into the studio was that the production quality was 'terrible' and they wanted to fix it. I have obviously not heard the rest of the album or the album prior to them 'fixing' it, but I really think the mixing on Home is awful, which is weird because Home was the song recorded AFTER they 'fixed' the album. It's like all of the layers are smashed together and they squashed out all of the dynamics of the song. The vocals blend into the instruments. The guitar solo is flat. That chugging bassline part is dead in comparison to the way it sounds live. It disappoints me that they have said that they wanted their studio sound to be closer to their live sound but they still haven't managed to do it with this song. There has to be someone who has the ability to make that happen for them. Maybe the studio version sounds fantastic and dynamic through $10,000 speakers but the typical person listening to this is using iPod earbuds and I'm not sure if that is taken into consideration.

I could go on, but I'll spare you all the rest. I'm still hopeful because even if I hate every studio version of every song, I already know I genuinely like at least some of the live versions and that's a huge step forward from LLI.

It's on the IM under "exclusives". You have to right click on "home" to be able to save it.

After listening to the song for a few more times, it's starting to grow on me, but it's not that great. It's definitely better than most of the songs on the last album, minus "let love in" which is one of the best songs ever.

Anyways, parts of the lyrics sounds wierd. For example, "sattelite transmit my voice, sometimes we don't have a choice"? LOL. That just don't make sense. Yet it's kind of my favorite part of the song. Can't help but giggle and want to say the same. I even want to put that as a motto on my page..lol.

Just listened to it. I'm not too sure whether I like the way it goes from sombre to upbeat (I really like the sombre parts better, tbh) but I think it bodes well for the rest of the album.
