Title: Studio cam Post by nmf016 on Feb 17th, 2010, 11:29pm http://www.ustream.tv/channel/recording-for-the-rest-of-us---ggds Thought I'd make a thread about them since Robby said they're going to try to do a bunch until they head out on tour. Here's the gist from the first two. They are streaming video mostly from Robby's laptop, but they are able to cut in footage from the iPhones that they're all carrying around, so it gets a little confusing and weird. Also, they are mostly streaming muted video so if you're chatting, it does you no good to ask repeatedly for sound. Sometimes, they will go away and leave you staring at random items for any odd amount of time. Your computer is not broken. Also, asking for John to come chat over and over and over and over is annoying, so don't do it. It's also really insulting to the band members who ARE chatting. Recap of day 1 (Tuesday) They were at Rob Cavallo's studio, which appears to be in his home. Robby was moving the laptop from place to place and going inside and outside. Mike was there briefly, but he left. Robby didn't type much, but he said that he had 2 songs on the new album, there are approximately a dozen songs on the album, and one of his songs is called 'Now I Hear'. Recap of day 2 (Wednesday) Still at Rob Cavallo's studio. We start off outside with Robby showing the scariest bug I have ever seen. Then Korel showed up for a while. Then they went inside and scanned around the room a bit. We saw Brad playing guitar and Korel singing As I Am (no idea why). Then Robby got kicked out and had a 'Mike reads a book' cam and played with his camera features. Then we saw John playing guitar briefly and Korel singing again. We met Luna, the studio dog. Mike chatted for a pretty long time, asking random movie and sport trivia questions and answering a couple questions. Brad joined into the chat from his phone inside the studio and the video stream kept hopping from computer to phone to phone and it all got very confusing. Then Mike left and Robby came back for a couple minutes. He said that they are going to try to stream from rehearsal tomorrow. Tuesday pictures are at the link below. It's a big picture so I won't post it. Click on the image to make it full sized. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v337/crookedrhyme/goo/Ustream2-16-10.png Wednesday pictures http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v337/crookedrhyme/goo/Ustream2-17-10tagged.png |

Title: Re: Studio cam Post by sympathy_0 on Feb 18th, 2010, 1:10am Thankyou! I really REALLY wish I could have been there, I have school way too much ahh. Oh well! :) I am so excited for the new album! Ahh! |

Title: Re: Studio cam Post by Shannon on Feb 18th, 2010, 12:24pm This is a GREAT thread idea. Nice job Nicole. Thanks for the summaries. I jumped on a bit last night but just didn't have time to sit there all night. I did think my sound was broken so thanks for clarifying that. John posted on Twitter last night that he was feeling camera shy and just wasn't up for chatting on screen. |

Title: Re: Studio cam Post by nmf016 on Feb 18th, 2010, 6:40pm Extremely messy lazy transcript of part of what was said in chat on Wednesday. I came and went and I also left out trivia stuff. Quote:

Been there, oh blue tarp. :-* Thanks for the detailed info and links Nicole. I now know that I am truly a biology geek because after viewing the pictures I went off on an internet search in an attempt to identify the scary bug. "Hmmm...Order Coleoptera, some sorta beetle..." http://bugguide.net/node/view/60 There are definitely some scarier bugs, I gotta say. |

Title: Re: Studio cam Post by nmf016 on Feb 18th, 2010, 9:31pm Blue tarp!!!!! And I am not clicking that link. (Robby named the bug Paul McCartney) |

Title: Re: Studio cam Post by Shannon on Feb 19th, 2010, 11:47am Bugs are not pretty to me. They totally creep me out *shudder* Thanks for the transcript Nicole. |

Title: Re: Studio cam Post by DWG on Feb 19th, 2010, 6:09pm Maybe not pretty, but Paul McCartney was often called "the cute Beatle". ;) Uh, what the... "...Brad singing is like honey from the lips of an angel..." ?? |

All bugs? What about butterflies? There can be some really beautiful spiders too. And ladybugs - and even caterpillars! Haha. Some are completely bad though. Like ear wigs. |

Title: Re: Studio cam Post by sympathy_0 on Feb 20th, 2010, 12:44pm Haha. Can they actually do anything to you though? They have those weird pincher looking things, but they don't look that strong. I have never heard of an ear wig bite or anything so I am thinking not! :) |

Title: Re: Studio cam Post by nmf016 on Feb 20th, 2010, 1:48pm OMG you guys!! My beautiful thread is being ruined by your bug talk. This is the only bug we should discuss here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OeNggIGSKH8 |

Title: Re: Studio cam Post by DWG on Feb 20th, 2010, 5:02pm That thing looks more like a puppy from another planet. Very X-Files. I also think it's funny that the following page shows that hairy puppy-bug and Robert Smith in the same side bar. http://www.encyclopedia.com/topic/caterpillar.aspx |

Title: Re: Studio cam Post by sympathy_0 on Feb 21st, 2010, 9:00pm That caterpillar thing was kindof beautiful though, in its own exotic way. |

Title: Re: Studio cam Post by nmf016 on Feb 27th, 2010, 9:25pm Saturday (2/20) They were set to show some of rehearsal, but it never really got off the ground. It appears there were technical difficulties and nothing really happened. Friday (2/26) I missed big chunks of this one. They were recording a new song, which means the album really is never coming out.. Robby played a couple very very short clips of the studio version of Sweetest Lie (and apparently also As I Am). He also subjected us to metal music. Later, after I tuned out, Mike drove a car with Robby and Brad in it and they recorded it for some bizarre reason. Saturday (2/27) They were back at rehearsal. We only saw a couple minutes of actual rehearsing. Robby mostly just played a bunch of GGD youtube videos. (One of the last videos he played was my footage of John smashing a guitar from my youtube account, which made me LOL). Robby also played a little bit of the Real demo, which was a giant mess, but cool to hear. :D Some screencaps of yesterday and tonight. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v337/crookedrhyme/goo/Ustream2-26-10tagged.png http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v337/crookedrhyme/goo/Ustream2-27-10.png |

Title: Re: Studio cam Post by AngelWithHorns on Feb 28th, 2010, 12:10pm Cool, thanks...I was actually surprised that Robby showed the guitar smashing clip over and over again towards the end... |

Title: Re: Studio cam Post by sympathy_0 on Mar 5th, 2010, 2:51am I still think it looks really beautiful. I went on the stream to catch the end of it.. I wish there was sound, it would make a lot more sense since watching them reherse would be better with sound. Robby made a few funny comments, and I told everyone to join WOG.. They were talking about goo boards! I had too. :) |

Hi Sympathy, it was nice to see you at the Robby chat...Some interesting people there this time...I wish they would give us a bit more notice before doing the chat and it didn't always fall around the time I have to cook supper, but it's cool that they do them... Apparently WOG means something different altogether in Australia (I'm sure it's something dirty) but they wouldn't say what exactly... Korel played a bit of keyboards for us...it was interesting and seemed like part of a new song, although he may just have been playing around... I asked Robby several times if they are coming to Canada, but he never responded (even though he did respond to someone who asked when they are coming to Europe)...I just have this feeling that we won't see them before 2011 when they come back after Europe... Oh, BTW, I'm AngelWithHornss on twitter if anyone wants to follow me... |

Oh those Australians. Everything is dirty to them, haha (just kidding). I reallllly hope they come to Canada. I think I do agree with you though, that we somehow won't get to see them :( If they do come to Canada it will probably only be like Toronto/Vancouver or places like that! They should do a Canadian tour again, it was amazing last time (at least for me). And Please call me Forbes :D |

Title: Re: Studio cam Post by sympathy_0 on Mar 6th, 2010, 4:40am Sweet! I saw them in Halifax, the show was great. I don't think there was a meet and greet, maybe there was. If there was, I would have hoped I would have known about that.. haha :) |

Title: Re: Studio cam Post by nmf11036 on Mar 10th, 2010, 8:42pm Tonight's recap: They were in the studio. We mostly saw John singing in the little audio box thingy, then Korel. They are recording a song with John Fields producing (because I guess they need 4 producers?). It is a John song and Robby said it was a 'rock ballad'. It's not a rerecord, it's a new song. Robby said it was not replacing anything, it was an additional song. Robby let us hear a couple short short sound clips. I managed to record some of them. "I need you now I need your light(?) I need you now" Do we have a vomit smiley? I don't remember... Here, I uploaded my own. It was worth it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v337/crookedrhyme/gifs/vomitsmiley.gif |

Title: Re: Studio cam Post by sympathy_0 on Mar 11th, 2010, 12:14am Johns lyrics have not gone down! I shall disagree. Let Love In had some great lyrics, REALLY EMOTIONAL OK? Haha ;) Its true though. |

Title: Re: Studio cam Post by magnetronnie on Mar 16th, 2010, 6:55pm Here's a screenshot of Robby showing some sheet music. http://i43.tinypic.com/m771i1.jpg Tiffiny is a song name? |

Title: Re: Studio cam Post by ___ on Mar 16th, 2010, 7:05pm Oh, yay. I was hoping you caught that when I saw you were signed into the chat. Thanks! I would assume that is a song name. I am also going to assume that the way that name is spelled is going to drive me nuts for the rest of my life. Also, they're in a new studio - East West Studios. I think this is studio #4 for this album? Go find pictures of it. It's trippy. |

Title: Re: Studio cam Post by ___ on Mar 16th, 2010, 9:57pm I don't care if this album is LLI 2.0. All I care about is that there is a Flying V being played. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v337/crookedrhyme/goo/flyingv.png |
