Title: Album Delay
Post by sympathy_0 on Dec 11th, 2009, 11:49am
Just watched the video now.

I think this might be a good thing though judging from what Johnny said about them realizing that they could make it a lot better. I don't really know what that means really. Did he mean they were working with a new producer? I think that would be a sweet idea for some reason, I don't know why. Maybe a new take on it would be really good, you know?

Either way this just made me want the new disc even mroe!

They are working with a new producer named Mark 'Spike' Stent.

I am very confused by this.  They all seemed really pleased with their finished product so if it is actually the band that wants the changes, it just seems like all of the glowing things they said about their process was meaningless.  And if John is politely saying the record label is forcing them to return to the studio, that's equally sad because they have said in the past that WB has always allowed them to do what they wanted to do and that they were grateful for it.

I joke about the album never coming out a lot, but I honestly don't mind it being pushed back.  We were originally told they were shooting to release a new album in Summer 2008, so at this point, what's a couple more months?  But I am saddened to see that shortly after they claimed to be happy with what they had, they're going to go mess with it again.

(In happier news, I loved Bob the attention ****. :D )

In my humble opinion, for what it is worth, I think having someone else take a listen and give a thought or two about the new CD is very wise.  The Goo Goo Dolls are great at writing both music and lyrics, but music is way different than the 80's when they started.  Similar to how music changed from the 40's to 60's.  I think they realize their sound is so close to breaking out of the AC/ soft rock and into the main stream pop/ rock, that they can taste it.  I am not saying they are going after money or trying to please anyone, but if you are creating art, you want it to be the best it can be.  How many of you have redone drafts of papers, to have a paper come out really good?

I don't mind if I have to wait another year or two for the CD, this band is awesome and I am glad they are putting their heart and soul into trying to give us a work of art for our pleasure.  I hope this CD wins awards - big time.

Hugs,
Skkyer

oh my god...what a surprise!! LOL! I don't wait anymore because the Goo's take forever. When it comes out, it comes out. I remember when I waited for "Dizzy up the girl"...it felt like forever. I even walked in the pouring rain for 30 minutes to get it.

I don't think i'll buy the new album though cuz I'm scared that I won't like any of the songs. I will listen to a uploaded version of it, and if they got at least one song similar to big machine or let love in, then i'll get it.

When I walked in the rain to get "dizzy up the girl", I was a huge fan of "A boy named goo".  Unfortunately, Dizzy was a disapointment compared to aboynamedgoo, but it was a fairly good album for what it is and i learned to accept it.

When gutterflower came out, it was an even more disapointment, and I only liked 2 songs. Horrible album overall.

I gave them another chance with letlovein, and i only like one song..let love in.  Extremely horrible album, worst than gutterflower.

After hearing the few songs that were out and supposed to be on the new album, I'm sensing it's even worst than letlovein. I really can't afford to keep buying albums with 0-2 good songs on it. Maybe i'm part of the problem by buying their CDs, and they keep continuing to produce the same crap over and to please people like me who consumes it?

I think let love in and big machine have their differences, just as any other goo songs, but they are similar enough for fans of aboynamedgoo era. Most ppl who loved aboynamedgoo, I believe love letlovein and big machine. People who continue to buy their albums are from aboynamedgoo era or huge fans of it.

I buy their CDs cuz i'm still living in the past. I feel that they produce more good songs in aboynamedgoo than they did in the last 14 years.

Good times eventually comes to an end? I hope i'm wrong.

You won't support the band that you like so much that you'd walk 30 minutes in the rain to get a cd because of a fear that you won't like the songs? I find it hard to believe that if you bought it you wouldn't enjoy most or at least have many grow on you. And Big Machine and Let Love In are vastly different...what else even falls into that category? That range is so broad that they'd have to make something like JED to not reach it.

I feel like I need to get in on this convo.

Gutterflower has to be my all time favorite goo album, and probably the only album in the word that I could sing all of the words to no question. I have to disagree with you aswell, I think Big Machine is more like all of the other songs on the album, and there are a few others that are different - that is just me though. All in all I LOVED that album. Two of my favorite Robby songs ever - Smash and Tucked Away (Love the live version of this one).

I liked all of the LLI songs really, my two favorites being Can't Let It Go and Without you Here - I still can't believe neither of these songs were chosen for singles, both absolutely stunning. I love Listen as well, so good. I enjoyed everything on the album as well, but the o mentioned before were the stand out ones.

Dizzy up the Girl is a close second, the only song I never really got into was Full Forever. The rest are amazing, I love every last one.  I could probably love Full Forever if I listened to it again, I think it was overshadowed by the amazing Robby song January Friend - and all of Johns songs were insanely good on this album, so deep.

AND NOW A Boy Named Goo. Definatly the one I am most unfarmiliar with. I do love many songs off the album like Long Way Down, Name, Naked, and Ain`t that Unusual.

In end, I love them all but GutterFlower was my favorite album, I just want to cry whenever I haer a song from it, helped me through a hard time in my life and I mostly listen to songs from it now. Soo good.

Thats my two cents! :)

You're just lying to yourself. Most of the fans who stuck with the goos were big fan of or came from abng era, and they stuck around for songs like big machine and let love in. I'm not saying they sound the same as abng, but it would easily fit into abng album and nobody would make a huge distinction. Even the song "name", which I love, though different from naked and long way down, still fitted well into the album. I don't know how you got the idea that no abng fan loved bigmachine or letlovein. Aren't they the bulk of the fans who are buying the albums?? I've been hearing it all along. Big machine and letlove in were arguably the best songs on those albums. Those who loved it weren't really the ones who jumped on board because of "iris" and "slide", they were from the abng era.

Dizzy was a huge disapointed because for the most part, it was nothing like abng. It wasn't more soft and had a lot of strings. It sounded more like matchbox 20 and other modern rock groups at the time. To me, from hold me up to abng, it was growth and a step up from the last album. Dizzy was a huge turn from what they were doing.  Since then, they've been all over the place.

I notice that the goo's don't have as much hardcore fans as other groups who aren't as famous. That's because the goo's are constantly reinventing themselves. Fans of goos are uusally divided by songs, albums, and era. Somebody can say they are a fan, but only like iris or slide, some only like long way down and naked, some only gutterflower, etc. It's harder to find fans who like all eras.

Fair enough. I just think it's funny how you say you're looking for a Big Machine or Let Love In instead of something ABNG-ish. I've never heard of ABNG fans liking Big Machine and Let Love In most, especially when I think LLI the song sounds nothing like anything off ABNG. I'd be interested to see if other major ABNG fans feel the same way.

Out of curiosity, why was DUTG such a huge disappointment?

Maybe it's because I've been stuck in a lab working practically by myself for 4 days straight through Christmas, my existence depending on mere meals of instant organic oatmeal, but...
this is actually starting to make some sense.

The turn this thread has taken hurts my brain too much to deal with so I'll just ignore it.

However:

Hate This Place was written to be like the Replacements

makes me LOL so much.  I never understood how John decided that Hate This Place sounds like the Replacements.  I know pretty much every song in the Replacements and Paul Westerberg solo catalogs and have never found a single song that sounds even vaguely like Hate This Place.

As a fan of ABNG, if I had to choose my favorite songs off Gutterflower I'd probably say "Truth is a Whisper", and from Let Love In...

I got nuthin'.

I agree with HMU and SSCW.

Also, I think that HMU is a cross between GF and DUTG. That might be crazy.. Does anyone else know where I'm coming from in saying that? haha
