Ha. That sounds like something I would say if I was ever to "tweet".

Hmm...what's important to me right now? No time to tweet. Gotta work & pay the bills. *curses Gov. Patterson*

Here's the Goos latest tweet. It doesn't have to do with the new album with it's news worthy ....

"new updates on the Inner Machine... new contest, three new videos from the Ark, including Mike talking about the recording process...."

Here's the latest Tweet ...

new Q&A's up on the Inner Machine... John talks Twitter, the new producer, recording, sadness and Creedence Clearwater Revival

Has anyone else listened to the Q&A's? I thought the questions and responses were really thought provoking this month. John shared quite a bit about himself .... more so than he ever does. So I thought that was really interesting.

No. Those are the three Tweets from Twitter that the Goos posted yesterday. The bottom one is the first one ... so they read from the bottom up.

"Goo Goo Dolls" just indicates the Tweet was posted by them. I just copied it as it was on the page.

I think it was John posting. If you read the Tweets starting from the bottom they make sense. The subsequent two were his responses to other's Tweets to him. He started out about talking how not knowing every move can be scary. People responded and he responded back. Does that make more sense now? It's hard out of context. If you join you can read the responses from everyone to the Goos and then everything makes more sense.

@RobbyTakac last full day of GGD's recording in our buffalo studio ... off to do vocals and continue guitars next week in an "undisclosed location"

Tim Palmer added an update today too...

@TimPalmerMixer  We are pretty much done with all the basics here in Buffalo. We got a lot achieved in 3 weeks. Back to LA in the morning !

The IM's April Q&As are up and Robby is answering questions. I know many of you aren't members there and an important question was asked that's worth sharing.

"When is the new album coming out"?

Robby: "ahhh....we're hoping this fall ... maybe... we hope. We're working on it super hard right now. We were just in Buffalo for two months. Now we're back in LA workin' and we're here for the next few months. Hopefully we'll have it to you this fall".

Oh and Robby's dreads are all gone and he's sporting a smoother rocker style bob. He's lookin' good :rockin: For all you Harry Potter fans it resembles Severus Snape. It's a good look :)

The ice skating press release says the new album is slated for next year at this point.

They still need to master the album and I would guess artwork has to be completed.  Then they'll need to release a new single 1-2 months before the album is released.  That would get us through October and into the no man's land of winter.  November, December and January are terrible release months.

My best guess is that they'll release their first single to sync with ice skating.  After all, the premise of that show is that no one will know the new songs when the show is aired on Christmas.  Then the album will scheduled for 1-2 months later and then delayed at least another month because that happens every single time.  Optimistically, I'll vote mid March for the new album.

Realistically, I'll vote never.

-First single in November

He also invited the radio host to drive around in his car with him listening to it because Robby has the finished product right now. (I'm going to go hunt for his car at MIA tomorrow, break a window and steal his stereo.)

Single in November, album in February? Is it just me or is that a kinda huge gap? People will practically forget about the song by the time the album is out!

And if Real is on the album I will slap somebody. Stop recycling your songs, guys! Though if wiki's the only place saying that, I'll be a little skeptical. A little.

Title: Re: Album update...
Post by nmf016 on Nov 1st, 2009, 2:07pm
Some people who edit the GGD Wikipedia page take everything that is said anywhere as gospel.  I wouldn't bother worrying about it unless the news comes from the band or a reputable source.  (Wikipedia is NOT a reputable source.)  Personally, I think it'll be a little ridiculous to have a song called 'Real' on the same album as 'Nothing is Real'.

It was suggested on AG that the single might not happen in November as originally planned.  I'd love a new single right away, but it will get lost in the Christmas music onslaught, so maybe it will be best if they hold off until the new year on a single.

Title: Re: Album update...
Post by nmf016 on Nov 1st, 2009, 4:26pm
No, sorry.  We were told there is a song called 'Nothing is Real' on the album.  The album is still called 'Something For The Rest Of Us'.

Title: Re: Album update...
Post by nmf016 on Nov 1st, 2009, 7:05pm
It was probably in a Q&A, so that would explain why you missed it.

As I Am might actually be called Take Me As I Am.  There is a setlist on the IM with that title, though they've referred to it as As I Am everywhere else.  The Sweetest Lie might also be just Sweetest Lie.

I don't think we know any more.  Except GALB.

It was SUPPOSED to be on GHV2 though.

I think it actually got cut because Roger Hodgson was being a crybaby about people covering his songs.  If only he could prevent the Goos from playing it live as well...  :D

Also, there's this:
http://www.billboard.com/news/goo-goo-dolls-ready-something-for-the-rest-1004054458.story#/news/goo-goo-dolls-ready-something-for-the-rest-1004054458.story

The Goo Goo Dolls plan to have their next album, "Something For the Rest of Us," finished in February and out in late spring, according to bassist Robby Takac.

"Originally we were going to put it out in the fall and we decided to put it out in the spring instead," Takac tells Billboard.com, "so we had a little bit of time to listen through. I think it really lead us to be pretty hyper-critical about what's on the record. There's a few things we want to tend to, so I think we're gonna get a great result."

Takac describes the Goos' first new album since 2006's gold-certified "Let Love In" as "the extension of what we've been doing for our whole career, the next step." The group already played two of the songs -- a buoyant track called "The Sweetest Lie" and the earnestly melodic "As I Am" -- at the taping of the "Amway Global Improv Ice" exhibition in Anaheim, Calif., which will be broadcast Christmas Day on NBC. "We usually don't go out and start playing stuff until the (songs) are out on the record," Takac notes, "but the way the world is changing these days...I think it's gonna be a pretty cool, organic way of introducing some new music to folks."

The Goos recorded "Something For the Rest of Us" primarily at Takac's GCR Audio in the group's home town of Buffalo, N.Y., as well as in Los Angeles with producer Tim Palmer (Porcupine Tree, HIM, U2, Siwtchfoot). Takac says the band will be bringing in Mark "Spike" Stent (Radiohead, Muse, U2, Dave Matthews Band) to mix the album. Touring member Brad Fernquist was also involved in the sessions, which Takac hopes will benefit the live presentation of the new songs. "We pretty much walked in with the band we play with and make a record, which I think is gonna show during the live performances," he says.

Takac expects the Goos to hit the road shortly after the album is released. Prior to that the group is scheduled to play at New Year's Eve show at the Motor City Casino in Detroit and at the ESPN National Championship Tailgate on Jan. 7 outside the Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena, Calif.

Hot Rock was a working title.  For all we know, it was "Now I Hear"  before it had a name..

They also have "Hey Ya".  It was a working title last year, but it was used in a recent Ustream so it COULD actually be the real title (God, I hope not)

Real is NOT on the album

12 new songs is fine with me after LLI only had 9.

The album is almost done! So we finally get the truth as to why it took so long!

If you don't want to watch the video, I will explain here. Apparently the first "finished product" of the album was rejected by Warner Bros. and told them that they had to redo a lot of stuff (instruments, editing, etc) and cut some songs and write some new ones. I'm not sure if anyone else knew this (officially), but I sure didn't. They said that it is good now though, and I am even more excited than ever to hear this. It would also be interesting to hear the first draft of the album, maybe we will get a chance to!

I think it's that WB (and all record labels) are hurting and they think the best way to make more money is to stifle creativity in favor of something that is a proven success.  They're wrong, but they haven't figured that out yet.

I really don't think this has anything to do with the Goos or the quality of the album they initially had.  First, the Goos know how to make an album.  Second, Tim Palmer knows how to make an album.  They would not have submitted an album they were not proud of.

That being said, I'm going to choose to be optimistic.  They might not have been allowed to release the album exactly as they wanted to initially, but I am going to choose to believe they would not release this final version of the album unless they were happy with it as well.  I like a lot of the sounds I have heard (both pre and post rejection) and I can't wait to hear the new album.  I also suspect we'll get to hear at least some of the mixes/songs that were rejected in the future and get to decided how badly WB fucked up.

Interesting.

I would think that the Goos have proven themselves by now. So, for WB to tell them to redo it, either a. the Goos were going to release something that sounded like crap or b. WB wanted to change their sound to something more radio friendly. I don't really like either option. I'm very curious to hear this album, and I hope we get to hear the cut songs, too. Normally, I'd say with this band there's no chance, but they have been good at using the new music trends with twitter and videos and such, so maybe they'll hop on the trend of releasing demos and b-sides, too.

Thanks for the video, Forbes.

I would love to hear the cut songs too...Hell yeah to the idea of releasing b-sides and demos! :)

Nightmares and Dreams was an acoustic version according to John.  I don't think it's fair to rate yet.

I loved the acoustic version, I thought it was great! It will definatly be interesting to hear how everything sounds on the album. I would always like more acoustic stuff, it sounds so great to me. John acoustic, Stevie Nicks acoustic (Landslide). That's all I'm going to say :D

Okay. Then my #1 is the 'Things Change' song that doesn't actually have a title. I will not rank the others because I currently care only about that one.

Oh... and Robby was Ustreaming. He showed us a promo pic. It almost looks like a HMU era picture. GGDs, your turn around from LLI to SFTROU is amazing.

SO. In the latest interview, it says that the SFTROU will come out late June, and the first single will be The Sweetest Lie.

Some change-ups in song titles due to some new articles:

Songs we know and have heard

1. Sweetest Lie
2. As I Am
3. One Night
4. Home
5. Now I Hear
6. Nightmares and Dreams (haven't heard completely, but the clip was introduced with a song title)

Song titles used in interviews, etc

7. Soldier
8. Not Broken
9. Something For the Rest of Us
10. Nothing is Real (it's been a long time since we heard this one so it could have changed)

Song titles that were probably working titles but might be real

11. Hot Rock (Robby song but NOT Now I Hear)
12. Hey Ya

Song titles that no longer exist

Tiffiny (Original title of Not Broken)

Haha!

Speaking of which, I don't really like "I've Got A Feelin" half as much as everyone else does. I find it really hard to genuinly listen to music like that, its difficult for me to for some reason. I like it, but the only way I will be able to learn/know songs like that is if I listen to the radio a lot or with my friends in a car.

Side tracked? I think. I was craving a weird sortof long rant. :)
It's good for you every now and then (which happens to be a lot for some of us, haha).

It's over now.

We'll Be Here is about Buffalo/cities like Buffalo falling apart.

And pretty sure Home is more of a 'touring blows' song than anything else.

Reading the lyrics and listening to the song, it does kind of seem like a "touring blows" song and also a bit of an ode to Melina song...I don't know, I just can't get into that one...

Buffalo kind of died when a lot of factories closed up since they were the primary source of employment.  The first verse (And through the fence I see a ghost/ Of a place that used to breathe) touches on the fact that a city that used to be huge and powerful isn't anymore.  Then 'And now everyone is gone/ To a place that won't be home/ Can they keep their family strong/ Will they make it on their own?' acknowledges that Buffalo's population has plummeted as everyone is forced to leave to find work elsewhere and families get splintered. (You have to note that this was 2006 though.  Since the whole giant recession thing happened in 2008, Buffalo's not looking so bad.  Buffalo never got out of the last recession and never experienced the same economic boom as a lot of other regions did, so it wasn't so shocking here)

We'll Be Here (When You're Gone) is supposed to be a defiant sort of 'we'll make it through this mess and you douchebags who are screwing all of us (companies leaving for cheaper factory locations, politicians, control boards) will falter long before we as a community do' thing.

But I get where you see the whole soldier/military thing with the last verse (But the ones who fight and die are the truth inside the lie) because I would absolutely consider that to be about the wars we've been in for the last 9 years unless I knew the rest of the song wasn't about the wars.

As for Home, there's something really perverse about John getting to sing 'Crowded room is full of empty faces/ Deepest conversation full of lies/ Another night with all my friends/ The kind you never see again/ I wonder if they see through my disguise' live at a show.  He's basically telling the crowd they're a bunch of empty faces and that he's pretending for just that night that he's happy to be there with them in North Dakota or wherever while he would actually prefer to be hanging out in his living room.  I feel like I should almost be offended, but then I'm pleased by how many people's heads that will go right over and I kind of love it.

I swear I remembered reading that John said We'll be Here was about the war, the whole song. Maybe I am crazy :)

And the crowded room with empty faces thing.. I think you may be over analyzing it a bit, I don't think that John is talking about the audiences. I think that there is something deeper than just not wanting to play shows/rather being somewhere else. Just my thoughts! :)

I get your difficulty with Sweetest Lie.  I'm pretty curious how it will fit with the rest of the album.

That being said, I really like Sweetest Lie for being kind of a reckless and almost meaningless song.  It's fun and I think it's refreshing from a band that I think sometimes takes itself too seriously.

Looking at Home as being his experience touring makes me like it even more. For some reason I find that theme in songs intriguing (other examples: Have You Seen Me Lately - Counting Crows; Something To Be - Rob Thomas; Wonderful - Rob Thomas). The fact that they can sing these songs and have them go over people's heads is both awesome and tragic.

Yet, here we have Home, Truth Is A Whisper, Big Machine, Flat Top, On The Lie, even Up Yours and probably others that all talk about the lies of the world and trying to get through them to the truth and reality. I've always seen it as a theme of GGD music. Which is why I still cannot wrap my head around The Sweetest Lie. It's meaning seems to fly in the face of their other songs.

I never thought about the theme of lies like that, and it's so true. Even Iris, Sympathy, It's Over, Here is Gone and probably soo many others have that theme too. I am actually amazed, thank you for bringing this to my attention! Maybe I realized it sub consciously at one point, but this is the first time I ever really noticed. Maybe this is why I like the music so much.

You're right, John said he got the idea for the song when driving Rt. 5 through Lackawanna and seeing the shutdown old Bethlehem Steel plants, etc.
