Title: REVIEW: GOO GOO DOLLS, ROCK CITY Post by Shannon on Jul 9th, 2008, 9:35am REVIEW: GOO GOO DOLLS, ROCK CITY A WARM atmosphere enveloped Rock City last night as American rockers the Goo Goo Dolls returned to the stage in the city for the first time in more than a year. As lead singer John Rzeznik led the band through classics such as Slide and Feel the Silence his statement that "Nottingham is a truly magical place" was met with cheers and an audience that wholeheartedly joined in with every single song performed by the three-piece. And the magic was definitely working for the Goo Goo Dolls. Fresh from their performance at the O2 Wireless Festival last weekend, the boys from Buffalo spliced delicate technical tunes with more upbeat tempos, displaying an impressive back catalogue as well as a well honed experience in reading a crowd - developed over their 22 years playing together. The gritty vocals of bassist Robby Takac provided an innovative twist to Rzeznik's usual solid and mature lyrics ? testament to a band which is not afraid to both develop and combine different influences in its music. And they failed to disappoint. An explosive finale of classics, including Let Love In, Better Days and Iris, were performed alongside their new single, Real ? a symbol of the band's "magic" last night as almost every member of the audience was still singing along to this relatively new tune.
