I hope it's a new song, and not just, like you said, Hate This Place or similar.

I also hope it's a part of GHV2. They did say they were going to have a new song on it, so it's not impossible.

If we're using logic like normal people (and that might be dangerous given the track record of the last two+ years) the only 'non new' song that could be called a new song and wouldn't be available on iTunes already would be the new mix of We'll Be Here on GHV2.  But I don't think that a remix would require a producer, just a mixer.

The part I don't get is why they chose to make the song available halfway through their UK tour.  Are they going to play it live at the shows before anyone has heard the studio version?  Are they only going to play it for the second half of the tour?  Why don't they just release it one week earlier?

Maybe they want to see how it works and see if it needs some last-minute tweaking before they officially release it? Assuming that they play it on all UK shows, of course.

Hang on a tick -- July 7th is a Monday. New music doesn't come out until Tuesdays. I would love to assume that it means it doesn't come out until the 8th, but I've been burned before. :(

Sorry, I worded it badly. My fault.
I meant that saying it comes out the 7th was just a mistake (because the 7th is a Monday and new music only comes out on Tuesdays), and I would love to assume it comes out on the 8th (which is a Tuesday), but things like that have happened before, and it isn't safe to assume anything.

The simple answer to your question is that here in the UK, we do the sensible thing and release singles on a Monday ;) So it should be out on the 7th. Can't wait!!

Ohhhhhhhh! Hmm. Interesting bit of trivia, that. Well, it still isn't going to come out until the 8th in the US.

Hope the link works, scroll down to the list of songs and it should be at the bottom. Initial thoughts anyone? Myself, ehm.....dunno what I think of it yet, I guess it's a bit Stay With You-meets-BITL-meets the piano from Better Days, and that's not necessarily my cup of tea so much, so I shall reserve full judgement til I hear the full thing.....

Alt-rockers The Goo Goo Dolls [ tickets ] have lined up a handful of dates spread across the summer as they back an upcoming CD/DVD compilation and return to the recording studio.

The band kicks off its US summer slate with a July 19 appearance at Cadott, WI's Rock Fest, part of a four-day outdoor festival that also features Stone Temple Pilots, Godsmack and Matchbox Twenty.

Later in the month, the group will make an appearance at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as part of the festivities surrounding the NASCAR Brickyard 400 race. Details on upcoming dates are below.

The band announced recently on its website that it had entered the recording studio to record a new album, which would be the follow-up to 2006's "Let Love In," the group's eighth studio set.

The Goo Goo Dolls [ tickets ] will release a new single, "Real," through iTunes beginning July 7. A clip of the new song is currently streaming at the band's website.

In addition to planned new material, the group will release a two-disc CD/DVD set, "Volume Two," on Aug. 5. The set follows last year's "Greatest Hits Volume One: The Singles," and will feature previously unreleased tracks, b-sides, rarities, live performances and music videos.

The DVD portion of the package features all 24 of the group's videos, including three No. 1 hits: "Name," "Iris" and "Slide." In addition, the DVD features six live tracks from the group's June 2007 show at Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheatre, including "Before It's Too Late" from "The Transformers" soundtrack.
