Quote, John: "and then we'll let a producer come in and put his flair on it."

Prays for Glen Ballard to be otherwise engaged.   :-X

Agreed DWG.

I love the sound of this .... quote: John... "At this point I want to keep it real basic so that the songwriting structure is real strong and the melodies and hooks are really good,"

Anyway, a pair of retrospectives? Are they gonna remake two old songs on the new album? Are they just songs about looking back? Are these two more collection albums?

Sorry to dash your hopes and dreams, but it's a poorly constructed sentence than means LLI + 2 retrospective albums, meaning GHV1 and GHV2.  God, the amount of disappointment in that last sentence...

Oh, how I want to believe all of this...  real rock, real instruments, recognizing Pro Tools isn't the greatest thing for them, album out by the end of the year...

hahahahha.... album by the end of the year....

Interesting. I wonder how stripped down it's going to be.

So does this mean that John has given up playing guitar entirely now?    :(

And I'll gladly volunteer for the Kidnap Glenn Ballard Brigade when it comes time to mix and produce this album.

a) I hope not.
b) I can bring the duct tape.

a) I think if they're playing 'live', they'll require a second guitar player in the studio.  Let's hope Brad will just be a placeholder though.  :-/

b) Starting May 1st, we're doing rotating shifts at the Buffalo airport.  Duct tape and one of those luggage carts should be sufficient.

I was surprised by the "four of us" comment. I hope this doesn't mean Brad is going to become the 4th GGD. No comment on his guitar skills, I just think the guy has ZERO stage presence.

I'm being cautiously optimistic about the new CD. I seem to remember similar comments being made before LLI - and we all know how true those comments were. "There's only 1 ballad on the new record" HA. Also, they sang Glen Ballard's praise pre-LLI.

I get so annoyed when they say all good stuff about an album/show/producer/song/etc., then as soon as they talk about their next project they bash all the things/people they were just praising on their previous project.

I know the praising is part of the business (you can't go and say "buy our new album, oh and by the way it sucks"), but the bashing part is getting out of hand. It's ok to bash something later if they're not happy with it, but this has pretty much become their (especially John's) modus operandi.

Subtle, understated, yet I can't stop laughing.

I don't think that Brad will be the 4th Goo Goo Doll.

"I think the most important thing when we go in to actually track the album is that the four of us are playing live together," he says of touring guitarist Brad Fernquist.

Don't think John would have said live unless he was going to be something else than just that.

Yeah, but they've used session musicians before, on previous albums, and they've never referred to one of those musicians as if they were the 4th member of the band.  His statement seems really odd to me, as if John truly is giving up the guitar playing altogether and focusing on singing and songwriting.    :-/

I don't really perceive it as bashing. I perceive it as John and the band wanting to take a new approach to this new record. A fresh approach.

Which is actually a return to basic recording principles and eliminating all the convoluted and needlessly complicated nonsense involved in today's recording process.

All that digital processing........the editing......endless over-dubbing.....and each individual member coming in seperately and doing their takes/parts. They hardly even see each other in the studio and most likely aren't even there at the same time, ever. It's so cold, uninvolving and divided.

Bands make great albums when they get together, jam, throw ideas around, play off of each other and get their creative juices flowing. Traditionally, this approach has always made for the most creative, passionate and emotional music.

I think John is right on the money with his thoughts.

In general, most (bands/artists) music these days sounds so over processed....over produced......and digitized.....and compressed......and brickwalled.

The songs lack that sense of chemistry and passion. That raw and passionate energy of a band jamming out together and feeding off of each other.

I hope John and the band stick to their guns on this and do it the right way.

Would be great to have some new, passionate Goo Goo Dolls songs!!!!
