Goo Goo Dolls - Greatest Hits, Volume One: The Singles

Brian Berry: I was still learning my ABC's when soft-rock powerhouses like Journey and Foreigner ruled the airwaves, but somehow, through my dense shield of indie music snobbiness, I managed an affinity for their straightforward, universal songs of heartbreak, love, and despair. The Goo Goo Dolls, like the aforementioned bands, have been maligned by critics but somehow hold a special place in my heart. Frontman/songwriter John Rzeznik has written some of the best sappy tearjerkers of the past 15 years (e.g. "Name", "Black Balloon", "Slide") and this Greatest Hits collection couldn't come at a better time in their career. And no, I'm not being facetious.

Mitch Michaels: The Goo Goo Dolls are one of those bands that have steadily cranked out hits for over 15 years but have yet to garner any sort of respect or sure fame. When you're not hearing a Goo Goo Dolls song on the radio, you're probably wondering what happened to them, despite the fact that they've released a stream of big Rock hits and good selling albums consistently since A Boy Named Goo. Perhaps this set will remind people how great these guys are.

my feelings exactly. every underground, indie, or hard rock song on my ipod could not amount to the joy i feel when i listen to the goos ::)
