Line-up announced for Mandela AIDS concert

The Nelson Mandela Foundation on Monday announced the line-up for this year's 46664 AIDS benefit concert to be held in Johannesburg, with stars such as Annie Lennox and Peter Gabriel to perform.

More than 40 of South Africa's biggest artists, including Johnny Clegg, Just Jinjer and The Parlotones will perform alongside international acts such as Corinne Bailey Rae, Goo Goo Dolls, Jamelia and Ludacris.

"These artists between them reach into every one of our communities -- upholding Mr. Mandela's message that HIV/AIDS is not a local issue, but a universal one," read a 46664 press release.

The concert, to be staged on December 1, will be the fifth of its kind held in various cities across the world since 2002 by the charity which takes its name from Mandela's prison number while held on Robben Island for 18 years.

Clegg, known as the white Zulu for his style of music, said he was privileged to play his part in the concert which showed a strong sense of continuity and commitment.

"This comes in a context where AIDS denialism and tardiness has become a depressing feature of our landscape from time to time," he said in a press release.
