�THE NEXT GREAT AMERICAN BAND�

I�m feeling a little fatigue from the Search for the Next Great (Insert what we�re searching for here.) Singers, comics, chefs, tattoo artists. What�s next? While Diddy continues to make his band season after season, the producers of �American Idol� are hoping to find the next Beatles. Or maybe they�d be happy with the next Matchbox Twenty. The format will seem familiar to you: bands, who have been selected from videotaped submissions, perform before a panel of three judges. Included in this panel is a British guy (British-born TV host Ian Dickson), a music star from the past (Sheila E) and someone who is still in the biz. In this case, it�s Johnny Rzeznik, the lead singer of the Goo Goo Dolls. His participation lends the competition some credibility. Someone who wrote one of the most popular songs of all time, �Iris,� might know something about having a successful band. After selecting 12 finalists, two bands will be eliminated each week. Friday, 8 p.m. Fox
