I know this was discussed yesterday but here's a formal announcement.

BOSTON - Hillary Clinton is getting a little rock and roll boost at an upcoming fundraising in Boston.

Goo Goo Dolls Singer John Rzeznik is headlining an Oct. 10 fundraiser for Clinton at Symphony Hall in Boston.

One of the fundraisers selling points is its relatively low price. Tickets start at $20. Top tickets are $2,300.

Actress Mary Steenburgen and campaign Chairman Terry McAuliffe will host the event, which will feature other entertainment, including an a cappella group from Clintons alma mater Wellesley College.

The event is also part of the campaigns effort to boost Clintons support among women.

Logic is so unforgiving.

Why would you hate it when stars get involoved in politics?  I think it's good when people go out and support what they believe in.  John is a person.  Since he is a powerful person (a star!), he'll have a lot of influence on other poeple to support what he's supporting.  I think it's great!

I'm sort of on the fence.  I agree that I don't like how someone famous can sway the opinions of fans and I always cringe a bit when I see musicians and actors getting heavily involved with politics.  At the same time, I guess if I felt heavily about politics and happened to be famous, I should still have the right to support or rally for someone, regardless of how it affects impressionable people.

And still, we should not be surprised to see more of this.  The Goos' history shows they are not shy about getting involved in politics at election time.

Agreed.

It's not like stardom should deprive you of the right to be politic or voice your opinions (however stupid they may be). I think that famous people (heh, talking about them like they were something from outer space) know that they take a gamble when they become political and that their opinions might not appeal to everyone, but that's life.
Still, if you start using your position and power over people to convert them to something you believe in, that's when I start to raise an eyebrow. It's okay to say what they like about it etc. but they shouldn't put all their might into telling people what to believe. I don't think that's what John's doing, but anyhow. My take on things.

I don't necessarily mind them being involved in a political fundraiser ... but for Hilary?  Hilary?!!

Why, oh why, oh why ...   :tantrum:

I'm with nmf and lionhill on this one. There's nothing wrong with it, in theory -- heck, if he's getting people motivated to vote, that's a great thing. I just hope people are able to think for themselves and pick the candidate that they think is best and not necessarily whatever one John is pushing for.

And the "boost Clinton's support among women" line... :-X

We think alike, you and I.

Perhaps with the right "support", she will "push up" to the front of the field and enjoy a "comfortable" lead.
Without such support, her standing in the polls may "sag".
