Title: Tonight's Show Canceled?!
Post by djgeneral on Aug 23rd, 2007, 5:32pm
Colbie just posted on her MySpace that her lifehouse and Goo are stuck inside their tour buses cuz of a big storm in Chicago! She isnt sure as of now if the concert will go on

WOW... it must be some storm. We've got some storms moving through here right now too.

On the IM moblog they posted some pictures of the buses in the storm. The skies are very dark in those pictures. I didn't realize the venue was outside. That explains why they'd cancel the show.

I was driving home from Frankenmuth and saw the lightning in the sky...it was cool!

:-/That's not good for the show though eh? I hope it clears up enough...it's really not raining or anything around here, but it could be different from 5 hours away...

I was there... it was insane.  Yes, the show was cancelled.  The venue is right on Lake Michigan, has no coverings except for over the stage, and has lots of floding chairs, which isn't safe in high winds.  Apparently they didn't let anyone in the venue.  I just arrived at the venue when the huge storm started.  My mom and I went to the pre-show meet-up and then at 6 we left to meet my dad and his friend at his friend's boat that was parked at a dock directly behind the venue.  At 6:30 we were walking towards the venue and I was going to go in to get some merchandise but then there was a huge gust of wind that came out of nowhere that almost knocked us over, so we ran into the boat, which had a plstic covering on it and right when we got in, it started pouring really hard.  There was tons of lightning, we saw some hit the Sears Tower rods, my dad's friend saw one bolt hit the mast of a nearby sailboat and saw sparks flying from it, and there were two HUGE bolts that definitely hit Lake Michigan on the other side of the venue.  We saw the screen on the stage almost fly away.  Buckets of water were flowing from the sidewalks into the harbor.  The lightning and rain just wouldn't stop, there was no way the show could have gone on.  We didn't leave the boat until about 8:45 - 9:00 when it finally stopped raining for a little while, but then it started pouring again when I was driving home and I could barely see anything on the road.  I hope everyone else got out of there safely!

Wow.  I'm glad you made it out okay.  I hope the rescheduled date works for you.  :-/

(Am I a terrible person for thinking "Rain!  We could use a storm like that for our brown crunchy grass"?)

Holy Cow :o  I'm glad you're okay Carlyn.

We had some pretty massive storms last night but nothing like that. It seems like all it's done this whole week is rain. I'm hoping that Sunday still remains a clear day in the forcast.

It isn't supposed to.

I just checked Weather Channel and it says 10% chance.

Saturday 60%
Today 40%

We should be good.

This is the blog from the IM.....

August 23rd, 2007 - so scared
It was a terrible, terrible storm that came out of no where and almost took down our stage and unfortunately a brave crew member did get struck in the face with flying debris, and now the brave soaking wet crew is taking down all the gear that got put up and didn't fly away.

I used to live on the west side of Michigan right near Lake Michigan so I know how fast those storms can hit. And they can be so scary.

The IM moblog now has a ton of pictures of the stage during the storm and crew cleaning up. It was a mess!

We're not really supposed to. It's part of the user agreement since it's a paid membership. Sorry :-/

Thanks!  Rumor is that it's going to be rescheduled for Monday, which is actually a horrible day for me because it is the first day of school and I start new gymnastics lessons that night.  Luckily, I don't have to travel far  to get to the venue, it's only about a half hour away from where I live.  I am going to the rescheduled show no matter what, even if I have to miss gymnastics.

I got this message the IM emailed me:

Midwest Weather Forces Band to Re-Route Summer Tour

New Date & Venue
Agora Theatre
September 26 7:00 pm

Due to the inclement weather the Midwest has seen over the last few days, The Goo Goo Dolls have been forced to reschedule their summer tour. Thursdays rained out Chicago show will be played on this Monday August 27th at Charter One Pavilion. Also affected is the August 28th at the Time Warner Cable Amphitheater at Tower City. The band wants to play for their fans in Cleveland, and have rescheduled the concert for Wednesday September 26 at the Agora Theatre at 7:00pm.

That is the most random thing ever.  Sorry, guys, Chicago got rained out, so we're pushing Cleveland back a month...

Anyways, Shannon, you know you want to meet up in Cleveland now.  Last show of the tour, plenty of time to find somewhere to place the kids, you'll have been Goo-less for a month... Just sayin'...  :D
