Can you remember when you first joined WOG? I CAN.
It was about scant (I love that word) two years ago, possible three. I used to look up at those who had the title "Goo God"

Now I've joined the ranks. Hehe. Do the new members look up to us? DO THEY?!

I can't remember exactly when I joined, and it isn't listed in my profile since I accidentally deleted my account a while ago. I think I joined around September of 2002.
The first person who welcomed me here was either Scubagoo or Pattygoo and she quoted lyrics of a song that remind me of that every time I hear the song on the radio at work:

"And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance"...

referring to my original name, Dances with Goo. I think she was saying I should jump in and post, rather than just lurking and being shy.
(Some folks probably wish I had just lurked!)

I know we didn't have the category of Goo God back then, so there was none of that to think about. But I hope I wouldn't be in awe of anyone for something like posting "x" number of posts. I think quality trumps quantity.

The WOG was the first board I found. It was in August of 2002 right after my first live Goo show. I lurked forever and didn't actually start posting until late fall of 2002.

When I first joined I have to admit I did look up to those who had so many posts. But after being on the boards for so long now I have to agree with DWG....that it's quality over quantity that counts. It's real easy to rack up posts when you're agreeing with everyone or just posting smilies. It's the posts with substance that count and add meaning.

I have always think quality over quantity when it comes to message boards....other then the IM board though

I have a like 6000 posts over at the IM but not of good quality really because I just post random crap there and then chit chat with a couple over there in one thread, and then I play all the stupid games that are over there....

however I have always thought more about the posts I make here.....

I saw the GGD for the first time in August. When I went to that concert I wasn't really a fan of their music. I had DUTG and knew their hit songs and that was about it. It wasn't even my idea to go to the concert. I was more into country music.
I saw them live and loved it. I bought Let Love In and listened to it a lot. Eventually I bought GF and ABNG. When I found out they were doing a concert about 20 minutes from my house, and I immediately bought tickets as soon as it went on sale.
I found this message board and read it for a few days before joining. I jumped right in and changed my name to 'the purple o' I never posted under my registered screen name. Probably if it wasn't for that I would have been shy and lurked and posted occasionally. I'm not an outspoken person and can be shy and self conscious at times. I felt really comfortable here. Everyone was so nice and welcoming. I've joined many message boards on various topics and there are very few that I have more than 50 posts. I liked WOG because there was no drama, no fighting, and everyone keeps an open mind.
I've said things that I have later regretted and I've deleted many posts.
When I joined I looked up to Shannon and probably Nicole and Drew because they seemed to be masterminds behind the whole "mass confusion" :P

That's my story, nothing too special or extraordinary. I assure you, Nicole, I do exist and I'm not an elaborate joke by Drew.

I joined way back in '03, sadly i have 14 posts! I remember the old board though, I was on that before this one, I think it shut down and everyone had to register to this one?! i'm not sure though

LMAO! I think you're referring to me as one of the psychos XD

I do miss Stacey and Alex... that front page was updated more than twice a day sometimes :D

I joined '98 or '99... I think '99?? I know that this board crapped out a lot.... A LOT. I think one of them didn't even let us swear. When we would submit something it would submit it as "fizzle" or "shizzle" ::) I even had like around 3,000 posts, but because the system was so crappy, I had to create a new name >:(

Oh geez..Nov. 3rd 2002..but my first show was like..august 11th I think..I was gettin' ready to see them again on Nov. 29th at the HOB in Myrtle Beach and was just doin' some research I guess you could say...but yeah..I do remember thinking that it was really cool how everybody seemed to know each other through this band..and now I feel totally like a part of another family! i love meetin' everybody at shows and such...joining was one of the best decisions EVER! haha <3

Wow, I think I first started checking WOG out in 1999/2000, I can't remember now. Back when JayV and Pon ruled the messageboards, it seemed to me.....
I think my first post was about the Goos sounding like the Replacements and Caroline replied to me - thanks Caroline!
The boards have had some crazy times, who can forget nr599 (or whatever his name was :P), the new boards in 2002 or something and all the random stuff...7 years, wow!!

and i do remember alex! i use to chat with him on IM and he was pretty damn crazy. lol especially the time he was drinking vodka and chatting. ahhh good times!

and who could forget the chats that centered around watching the set up of tiger jam?? and the blue tarp with the blue cooler.

i laugh everytime i still see a blue tarp on a roof here... that blue tarp sure is a hussy!

I had just seen the GOOs on TV and wanted to find out more about them, so I searched around the 'net and found this place.

If it wasn't for this board I may have never seen them play live. Some friends I met from this board convinced me to meet them at a free show down the Jersey Shore and then I was hooked -- so far I've seen them at least 11 times live. And, have met them 3 times.

I've always appreciated folks on here who know a lot about the band and those that have been willing to share/trade bootleg or hard to get audio and video stuff of the band...Plus all the nice peeps in general :) and especially those who make me laugh...

I DO remember that! I joined in 98/99 (I've gone through a few aliases since then as well as gaps of many months w/o at post lately, hence the pathetically small post count).

I joined WOG whenever the board that Warner Bros maintained was shut down (now there were some crazies on THAT board. I was a supercool 14 year old, and I used to get in fights with flamers that spilled over into email battles!!)

I love how many DUTG-era WOG people there are posting in here. It always makes me sad to think about fans who were around at the Goos' height of popularity who have moved on to the next 'big' thing.

I loved that this board used to be the busiest and that WOG always had all of the new info first, but there were definitely some crazies and nasty people. I love that this site has evolved into a place where there is rarely a troll and a place that anyone should feel comfortable posting.

(And in regard to the blue tarp fiasco, they promised us another streamed show to make up for that dud and we never got it. Bastards. :D )

I've been racking my brains trying to figure out when I first started posting at WOG, and I have no idea. I think it was during the DUTG era, probably sometime in 1999 too. I was gone from the board for about a year and a half, though, having just returned recently after that absence. Lots of new faces and many old friends too. I remember Joelage, PattyGoo and trac the most from my early posting days. Was around for the blue tarp and blue cooler incidents, and the hilarious chats we used to have. (I remember being the 'Stinky Cheese Man' during most of them, lol!)

Anyone else remember how the Blue Tarp Society blossomed into the FBJ Society? :-[
