Ha ha. They're not covering it, it was their first dance song at their wedding. And thank god they're not covering Iris, I don't think the world is ready for an Avril/Deryck cover of Iris. And Shannon, yes, John and Avril sang Iris together. You could do a youtube search if you'd like to see it again. (I personally didn't think Avril did a bad job and I hate everything...) |

Title: Re: Avril & Deryck to Cover Iris...??? Post by iris3732 on Jul 19th, 2006, 8:54am Here's the full article.... TEEN PEOPLE has all the details of Avril and Deryck's glorious California weekend wedding By Shirley Halperin Jul 18, 2006 06:00PM EDT BauerGriffin.com It was truly a fairytale day for Canada's ultimate pop-punk couple as 21-year-old Avril Lavigne married her boyfriend of two years, Sum-41 singer Deryck Whibley, in an intimate ceremony at a private home in Montecito, CA (just down the road from Oprah's multi-million dollar vacation pad) on July 15. The wedding was surprisingly traditional, several guests noted, with Avril walking down the aisle to Mendelssohn's "Wedding March." The bride wore a Vera Wang gown (and a four-foot-long veil!) and was accompanied by her father. "She looked absolutely beautiful," Butch Walker, Avril's friend and producer, tells TEEN PEOPLE. The couple exchanged rings under a white rose-covered gazebo on the estate grounds, their vows marred only slightly by paparazzi helicopters hovering above. Still, once the 30-minute ceremony had ended and guests like SonyBMG head Clive Davis, Island Def Jam President LA Reid and members of both Avril and Deryck's respective bands made their way to a more private cocktail hour, the romance continued without a hitch. "The whole thing was done up to the nines," says Butch, whose new album, The Rise and Fall of Butch Walker and the Let's-Go-Out-Tonite's, is out this week. "There were these velvet gothic red drapes and candelabras everywhere, chandeliers were hanging in the trees near a lake that had swans... It was pretty unbelievable. I'm glad I was invited." Not only was Butch invited, but about half way through the reception, he was asked to perform one of his numbers for Avril and Deryck. "They put me on the spot," he says. "There was a jazz band playing and the only thing up on stage [that I could play] was a piano, only I don't know any beautiful sweet songs on piano, they're all gut-wrenching and sad! So I played a song I wrote a few years ago ("Cigarette Lighter Love Song") and tried to lean off the break-up references." But when it came to dancing, Avril and Deryck had no problem taking center stage to "their song," the Goo Goo Dolls' 1998 hit "Iris," which Avril had actually performed with Goo singer Johnny Rzeznik at 2004's Fashion Rocks concert in New York City. And even once the music ended (at 10:30PM, due to a noise ordinance), the party was far from over. "We waited until it was past the big wigs' bedtimes before starting the rooftop after-after reception party," says Butch. "We went pretty late and fun times were had by all." |
