Title: Current tour
Post by Shaun on Jul 12th, 2006, 11:15am
Just wanted to find out what sorta songs the guys are playing at moment since their promo tour for Let love in is over. Are they playing much of their old stuff again? If so that'd be ace when they back in UK. Anyone know whos been to one of the gigs recently?

I'll try to put it in as close to the right order as I can....

Stay With You
Slide
Feel The Silence
Black Balloon
Smash
Tucked Away
Iris
We'll Be Here (When You're Gone)
Listen
Better Days
January Friend
Name
Broadway
Let Love In

ENCORE:
Become
Without You Here

This was the Milwaukee (Summerfest) set list...

IMO that encore sucks. It's too slow and soft. I hope I don't fall asleep during it. And where the heck are Can't Let It Go and Strange Love, my two favorites off the album? Great, my first Goo concert ever is July 29 and I probabaly won't like it except for Broadway, Tucked Away, and Black Balloon. Why couldn't I have been a fan durin HMU/ABNG? I would give anything to see There You Are and Burnin' Up live.

I would bet that the setlist will change somewhat for the UK shows. I'm assuming they aren't touring with CC there so it's possible their set will be longer and different. I doubt you'll get to hear There You Are and Burnin' Up but you never know.

Ye would be a bit bizzare if they did the exact same set as they did just a few months ago. Heres hoping for some more classics :)

Sadly July 29 they are with CC because it's in Massachusetts. :-/

Oops ... sorry. I'm getting all mixed up with who's from the UK and who's not ... lol.

I'm a little disappointed in the set lists from this tour.  I miss Long Way Down & Cuz You're Gone....those were my absolute favorite songs to see them do live.   The only pre-dutg song I see that they've played is Name...*pouts*

Same here -- the "nine songs from the new album" thing is really disappointing, IMO. Even just one more song from ABNG would be nice (and they can't deny the popularity of that album -- has it not sold more copies than both GF and LLI?). Guess I'm lucky I caught a couple of the older songs when they played them back in '02... :-/

And before someone quotes this and twists my words, I'm not saying they shouldn't play songs from the new album. I'm saying that having those songs make up 50% or more of the set is just too much.

Im hoping when they back in Uk they'l do like what David gray did when I saw him. He did promo tour for his album and set went, new song old song new song old song etc. Then He ran outa new songs and ended set, came on for an encore which went on forever, he evem started doing cover songs. I thought I would never get home lol. Still despite doing about 30 plus songs he maniged to miss off my favourite lol.
When back in UK they wont be with CC and therefore bam, all the classics :P Or so im hoping, oooo and theyl dedicate me a song and take me away to their after show party....

I am overwhelmingly nonplussed by the setlist.  The band that said "I hate bands that won't play the hits" now won't play their hits.  I would love an obscure setlist made entirely of HMU and B-sides but in the real world I would take a setlist with all the hits over their setlist of over 50% LLI any day.

I have a feeling that although I'm excited to get to see the guys perform, these shows just aren't going to hold a candle to the ones we've seen over the past 8 years.

I went to the Cleveland concert last night and cannot say I was anywhere near satisfied.  I am a huge Goo fan, and was pretty much looking forward to this concert more than anything in a long, long, long while.  I saw them at one of the Radio winners only promotional shows in Columbus a couple months back and was absolutely blown away by them.  The energy was just incredible!

However, at last night's show, I left desiring more, much more.  Because of "the incoming storm" and "...we just don't want to get our equipment flooded out" (Adam Duritz), Augustana came on at about 6:30 (the show officially started at 7:00) and played 3 songs for all of 10 minutes.  After a nearly 40 minute long set change (and the longest one i've ever sat through) the Goos came out with energy and passion with Stay With You.  I can't complain at all about that one, it was amazing.  However, they ended up playing for only 40 minutes before bailing out under completely clear skies.  (They did come back for an encore of "Without You Here", which was awesome to see live, but hardly worthy of being played during an encore as the Goos final song).  The set list was nearly the same as the FREE promo show I saw in Columbus:

Stay With You
Slide
Feel The Silence
Black Balloon
Tucked Away
Iris
We'll Be Here (When You're Gone)
Better Days
January Friend
Broadway
Let Love In

Encore:
Without You Here

One of my biggest gripes.  Robby looked downright sick (or just extremely pissed off.)  I was wondering if they just substituted a look-alike for this show or if he just decided to take it easy and stand around looking like he was going to break down and cry for most of the night.  I love Robby, hands down, but I NEED his craziness on stage if I'm going to enjoy a Goo concert.  Johnny seemed to enjoy himself only on about half of the songs.  The other half he just looked like Robby did about all night.  Johnny's brief solo in January Friend pretty much made me want to leave since he just stood still in one place with a neutral (if not bored) look on his face while fretting the notes.  Some highlights of the concert were: Broadway, Let Love In, Stay With You, and Slide.  I love the other songs so much, but they just lacked passion from the guys (not to mention the mixing sucked, i could barely recognize the beginning of songs or the words through most of them due to the terrible sound guys.

Bottomline - I love the Goo Goo Dolls.  I still do.  This concert was really disapointing, but I'm still listening to them nonstop.  They're awesome live, and I know this was just a weird off day because of the rain.  I'm just gonna let myself forget this show and remember the awesome show they put on in Columbus.  Thanks Goo!

I'm hoping the set list will be more diverse when I go to the Oneida show in Green Bay, WI. I'm assuming that it might be because it is without the CC. I really miss Long Way Down, I've only heard it once live.
