Title: Inspiration behind We'll Be Here (When You're Gone Post by ShanGooFan on May 1st, 2006, 9:57pm Shelley posted this over on AG and I thought it was such a good read that I'd post it over here too...... Goo Goo Dolls Sing About Home Posted by: Pete Gallivan, Daybreak Anchor Created: 5/1/2006 11:36:49 AM Updated: 5/1/2006 1:49:01 PM As The Goo Goo Dolls prepared for yet another homecoming show, they knew this one was a bit different. This time they were unveiling a disc that was truly born in Buffalo. For the first time in a decade, John Rzeznik and Robby Takac moved back home to write and record a record. The entire band lived in the Queen City for 6 months a year ago to put together the albumn "Let Love In". Rzeznik says getting back to his roots unlocks his creativity. "being home, being able to see your friends and your family, sort of soak up the environment of where you're from really sort of laid the foundation for the albumn, you know?" It laid the foundation and provided the inspiration for the song "We'll be here (when you're gone)". Rzeznik said it all came to him on a ride around town. "I was driving by Bethleham Steel used to be and I sort of started thinking to myself, what happened to all thses people, where did they go, how did they, where did they wind up going after the sort of decline of heavy industry in this city you know?" But before you think this is a story about failure and the ghost of what was, think again. Much like the song "Broadway", which sang about a neighborhood that's a "little bit weaker than it used to be", this is an anthem to the pride and perserverence that Rzeznik says defines his hometown. "You know, people here are survivors, they're strong... they're the strongest of the strong." For more information about the song, the cd and the band, CLICK HERE. Lyrics to We'll Be Here (When You're Gone) (John Rzeznik) And through the fence I see a ghost Of a place that used to breathe You know it choked away the sun But we still had food to eat And now everyone is gone To a place that won't be home Can they keep their family strong? Will they make it on their own? And we'll be standing when you're gone And we'll be heard again We missed our chance but not for long I know somehow we will hold on we'll be here When you're gone Then one day we realized That they couldn't hear our voice And it's so hard to understand When it's caught up in the noise But the ones who fight and die Are the truth inside the lie Now it's all built on our backs And we struggle to survive And we'll be standing when you're gone And we'll be heard again We missed our chance but not for long I know somehow we will hold on we'll be here When you're gone courtesy: Warner Brothers. |
