Title: Have you let love in?? Post by valheru11 on Apr 24th, 2006, 2:18pm Hi just listened to the album for the first, second and third time...... were to start??? i'm just disappointed. okay i'll admit i live in hope of a 'superstar carwash' type album which is unfair. But johnny for god sake have you forgotten how to play guitar!! can anybody say SOLO!!! or maybe POWER CHORD!!! i liked Gutterflower it had some really good tunes but it was one of the most overly produced albums i've ever listened to.... Hope........ Stay with you- Goo By the numbers, a good start. Hope Building. Let Love in- I like it, its catchy but is it just me or does the chorus not 'fit' the verse. i think the vocals are a bit strange in the chorus but its really good and i know why its the album title, its got a bit of spark. Hope is feeling good Feel The Silence- this is new goo. which is the best of this type of song on the album- the chorus hook is good i really like it. the dual vocals i think work really well (good luck live though). hope is rising Better days good song, either on the album OR at christmas NOT BOTH!! and it should not be here it should be at the end of the album i thought they new that by now. IRIS is at the end because they didn't need it at the start. Hope as accepted the inclusion of this and is still feeling good Without you here- i'm sorry who wrote this, if i wanted a middle of the road ballad i'd buy a westlife cd (bad irish boyband) i dont see the goo goo dolls anywhere in this.. it just doesnt go anywhere...at all. Hope has been Kicked Listen- its a good robby song slowed down. but the chorus is bad. it had potential. Hope is having a rest and regrouping Give a Little- i dont believe a cover should ever be on an album its bloody lazy!!!and i'm sorry but its not even that great a song. johnny has written better than this. i didn't need it on LIB, the live version was enough and i dont need it on this. and it dosn't fit either. Hope is low and hurting Can't Let It go. hey is that 'always know were you are'.. nope but close... Its good but i heard it before i know those hooks, that melody. i dont believe this song. johnny doesn't sell it to me. is it even about anything??... i dont care...but its a catchy tune which i'll sing but by this point i was hoping for the second half of the album to kick in and this just falls short. Hope sinks lower. We'll Be Here (when You're Gone)- is this on Gutterflower i could swear i heard this on Gutterflower.. By now i'm annoyed its not even something new i'm not sure what this is or what its trying to be I just here 'what do you need' . Hope can't see the light.. Strange Love: robby!!! has anybody seen robby.. this is bad.. thats it. thats all i can say.. If anyone should happen to see a little bass player kick him and tell him he's meant to be the up tempo one. Hope feels very strange Become: Johnny JOHNNY!!!!!! christ what this album did not need was another power ballad. but to be fair it quite good. withoutever really achieving anything this song would have been fine if IF there hadn't been already so many mid tempo songs Hope has grabbed dizzy up the girl and superstar carwash and is running for the door maybe they just needed to get this out of there system all bands do at some point. but do you know what really worries me. how many songs do they write?? was this the best of 20 -30 songs or is this all they had. why would GALB be on here if they had something better instead. i dont think they did |

Title: Re: Have you let love in?? Post by Pon on Apr 24th, 2006, 10:08pm HAHA! Most of the hardcore goo fans love "superstar carwash" and "aboynamedgoo"....that's what we all have in common. Those who love only "Dizzyupthegirl" are what I call "vh1ers". I think it's definitely a let down for most, but the most hardcore ones would still love it if John rapped. LLI - yes, the chorus is so wierd...odd...who the hell John been hanging with? hehe. I heard the chorus first from the ringtone link...though wierd..didn't believe it was goo, but I like it. Then I heard the whole song and was amazed. This is Goo and not goo, wierd, yet it worked..haha. I like "better days" of course...but that's it. The others are good, but not for me. The albums is REALLY WIERD! "Enemies become brothers"????? HAHAH. |

Title: Re: Have you let love in?? Post by Pon on Apr 24th, 2006, 10:11pm oh yeah, it seems that John told the guitar to screw itself. He was the best guitar player in my opinion, but now it's like Snoop giving up weed...it's just not the same...hehe. |

Title: Re: Have you let love in?? Post by Christian on Apr 25th, 2006, 12:47am Hehe you can always count on Pon to voice his opinion. I'm not too happy with it either. Apart from Stay With You and Let Love In, I'm just not feeling it. |

Title: Re: Have you let love in?? Post by TomAus1 on Apr 25th, 2006, 3:02am I agree 100% with galb, i always skip over it, and i really hope it was a record company decision and not theirs to put it on the album, it really dosnt fit in at all, shame we only got 9 new songs. The first 4 songs on the cd are really good. Songs 5-7 ordinary, 8 and 9 good and 10-11 sorta weak I think the middle part of the cd, particulary without you here, hurt this cd a bit |

Title: Re: Have you let love in?? Post by rob01 on Apr 25th, 2006, 5:12am After the first time listening to the album, I like most old fans of the Goos was disappointed that the album is just full of power ballads, but once I got over the fact that there wouldn't be any rock songs I didn't think it was too bad. It's sad that there's no guitar distortion or wicked solos, but there are some good songs that will no doubt get better with time. Can't Let it Go has to be my favourite track from the album for sure, really enjoy the acoustic rhythm of the song. I won't dismiss this CD just yet, but I'm already yearning for the next album that's for sure :) |

Title: Re: Have you let love in?? Post by NeverFadeToGrey on Apr 25th, 2006, 6:45am i'm disappointed to. maybe because i only listened once and on the way home from working all night but it just it's not the same. i admit i liked iris and i liked slide but when dizzy was the single that's when i became a fan. i just it's not what i'm used to. to me a majority of the songs sound just like better days. if they ran out of songs to put on the album why not dig back into the vault and put my all time favorite goo song on the cd, lazy eye just to make it a rocking cd. hopefully things will change but i swear if i have to hear become live i'm going to cringe. it just screamed cheesy 80s power ballad to me. give a little bit doesn't bother me (and i see why it was put on the cd) but if they were going to do a remake i wish to god it was their version of american girl. |

Title: Re: Have you let love in?? Post by YoungWriter on Apr 25th, 2006, 11:43am I haven't listened to the whole thing yet but, seriously, only 9 new songs? Maybe I'll be able to make a mix CD with some b-sides they release. |

Title: Re: Have you let love in?? Post by NeverFadeToGrey on Apr 25th, 2006, 12:09pm after listening to it again (especially while playing the sims lmao) its growing on me. its no sscw but then again there will probably never be another sscw. i'm curious as to how this tour's set list is going to be. i remember when gf came out and we all were upset because long way down was taken out. |

Title: Re: Have you let love in?? Title: Re: Have you let love in?? Post by GlitteringGoo on Apr 25th, 2006, 2:52pm maybe i'm too band friendly to my favorite band ... i myself have been a fan since i first heard There You Are so i've been in since the beginning you could say ... so i don't wanna hear the i'm a 'vh1er' or 'dutger' or anything ... i love this album ... sure it isn't no abng or sscw but the guys have grown and so have their music talents or likes or whatever you want to call it. i personally would be bored to tears if they were consistant all the time and never had a new sound or just did an album that they believed in, loved and then released it. as for only 9 new songs ... be glad it's 9 new songs at all ... the guys could have zipped up their guitar cases a long time ago and we could be sitting here typing about how much we wish they were still making music. all round ... i like the new album ... love that there's a summer tour ... love that i get to see the guys live a lot this summer ... love the new album release vibe ... love the fan club ... just love it all. feel free to jump all over me ... this is just my opinion ... i respect everyone else's and totally see where you're all coming from ... i'm just looking at the glass as being half full instead of half empty. :-* |

Title: Re: Have you let love in?? Post by lu on Apr 25th, 2006, 3:21pm i didn't want to admit it, but after reading what you've all said here, ive gotta say i was disappointed with the album. its all a bit samey BUT i find that music that grows on you is always better than music you love the sound of instantly because you'll just get bored of it. So give it a few days and we might all be loving it. you never know! |

I agree. Same feelings about the album. Rather disappointed. I don't even think it's as good as GF. However, I'm sure after a few listens and then hearing the guys play the new songs live, I'll learn to love the tracks. I guess I was just expecting so much more since it's been 4 years since we've gotten a full new album. |

Title: Re: Have you let love in?? Post by valheru11 on Apr 25th, 2006, 4:22pm when i first heard GF i really liked it but it faded after a while.. i think we just wrote the album in our heads before we heard it. i dont know about yous but depending on what mood i'm in i'll listen to a certain band. The Goo's where my 'good mood' band my 'take life on' band. this album doesn't fit that but that can be a good thing. its easy to say i dont like it... or i love it, but thats just initial reaction. what it will come down to is in 4 months time when you're scrolling through your music and you fall on 'let love in' will you pick it out and listen to it? |

Title: Re: Have you let love in?? Post by jret57 on Apr 25th, 2006, 9:35pm I think the stuff people are saying about being in the right mood for the music is right on target... the goos have gone on a journey these last three albums, no question- DUTG was dark and moody, Gutterflower was kind of in between with happy stuff like Big Machine and darker stuff like the last half of the album...... this is mostly positive music, which Johnny has said reflects his mood, so i think it all depends on where we are coming from as listeners. If we were expecting or in the mood for dark and moody, we're bound to be disappointed. I personally am in a much better period in my life than i was with DUTG or GF, so the upbeat inspiration tones of LLI are very welcome to me |

Title: Re: Have you let love in?? Post by januaryfriend27 on Apr 25th, 2006, 11:27pm I am seriously shocked at all the negativity... I know I have not been a fan for as long as some of you, but for the past 10 years, the Goos have never let me down, and although LLI is very different sounding and does take a few listens, the Goos still never dissapoint. Lets keep in mind that Gutterflower could have been their last?!!!! Of course there are a few songs on there I dont particularly rave over, but the other ones that I fell in love with are the ones I appreciate so much more. The only setback in my opinion was BD and GALB, but hey, whats done is done right? so in conclusion, what I am saying is that I agree with GlitteringGoo |

Title: Re: Have you let love in?? Post by KellyMac23 on Apr 26th, 2006, 12:32am Sure, the negativity here unnerves me a little. But I also think it's a good thing. Awhile ago I was convinced that everybody here would praise a new album even if it was 80 minutes of the guys farting and belching. ;D So kudos to staying loyal but also knowing how to criticize. As for my opinion, I love the metamorphosis of Goo. Their career thus far literally spans my lifetime (I was born in '85) and I think that their evolution somehow parallels my own. A perfect welcome home from a 4-month semester abroad in Italy, Let Love In was released literally the day I arrived home. And I think that the overall feel of the album somehow fits my mood at the moment. I've experienced so much in the last four months by living completely on my own in an entirely new environment, and I feel I've come back a little more mature, a little more serene, a little more changed. And that is what this album is for the band - just another change. All their albums are different; that fact is absolutely undeniable. I think that one of the qualities of Goo I like best is the fact that they are not pigeon-holed into a certain feel, genre, or sound. The music evolves along with them, and I love waiting to see what's around the corner with each new release. That said, I like the album ... for the most part. I still have yet to get a true feel for every song, but I think that there are one or two that I won't ever quite love. In addition, I think the guys are showing their age - something that is inevitable but not necessarily a bad thing. Like I said, I love that they have been around for 20 years, and I love watching them age. But to me, the sound quality of this album seems a little as if its a gimmick to mask a faltering voice on the part of John. Listening to the soundcheck concert (go to www.walmart.com to buy the tracks for 88 cents each or to watch the streaming video concert for free), you can definitely hear how his voice isn't as strong as it once was. And where's Robby? Only 2 tracks? And tracks that are a little tamer, a little less energized than the toe-socked, wild-haired man has done in the past. I would not be surprised if, according to rumors, this is their finito. So while the album has its flaws and it won't ever be my favorite Goo album, I still appreciate it for the concepts from which it was borne and for the growth it represents. And while I would understand if this was their final album, I would of course welcome anything in the future to continue to "Let Goo In" as I age along with them. |

Title: Re: Have you let love in?? Post by Christian on Apr 26th, 2006, 3:10am I agree with you KellyMac. I loved Stay With You when I first heard it, it sounded like Johnny's voice was back to the soaring heights it reached on DUTG and at some parts in GF. However, after listening to the album it seems that's not true. He tries on Can't Let It Go but other than that he stays subdued. Makes me sad. I'm also not feeling much diversity on the album. Let Love In though is one of the tracks I like because they haven't tried this before. But some of the tracks just seem to melt into one another when I'm listening to the album. I'll listen to it...but it just doesn't give me the same feeling I get when I listen to any other Goo album. |

I also, as many of us here, really like the Goos, and would be heartbroken if they did break up or stopped making music or whatever you want to call it. However, my talking point was meant to mean that we should appreciate what they give us because it could be their last.... we have all heard rumors about GF being their last, as well as LLI being their last....I for one hope none of them are true, but if *knock on wood* this was to be their last, we would appreciate LLI so much more!!! See what I am saying now? |

LMAO, that's what I thought when I first listened too!! ;D I wanted to leave off my thoughts about the album until I'd had some time to listen properly to it - a lot of diverse views about it here... I think I'd been preparing myself that it wouldn't be that great, having read some reviews from last week, and I've been pleasantly surprised. It definitely grows on you. The album hasn't got the same guitars-to-the-front feel as previous albums, but I get the feeling that they wanted to branch out a bit more and experiment, and I think the whole album is very interesting from that point of view - like the intro to Let Love In, totally different to any other intro. The whole album to me has a kind of "experimental" vibe about it whilst still retaining a certain Goo-ey quality. Overall, I think most of the tracks are pretty cool. Without You Here is the only one which I'm quite happy to skip at the moment. And I'm LOVING Become, Can't Let It Go and the middle bit of Feel The Silence where it all jazzes up for a second and gets the foot tapping... I definitely reckon all theses songs are going to ROCK when they sing them live. The guitars and all are still there, they're just hiding behind all the other sounds going on. I can't wait!! One question, though: Is Robby using a voice distorter or something on Strange Love? There are parts of it which sound a little different, and I just wondered. It fits with the song quite well, wonder if he'll use any distortion if he sings it live?? :thinkin: |
