Title: VH1 stream vs. actual advance copy Post by googoofan5 on Apr 21st, 2006, 1:05pm I know there has been a lot of talk about the new album, and that some people don't like what they have heard, and others really like it. At first, I thought it was really laid back, and not up to the standard goo quality. One poster went as far as to say that their new songs sounded like sludge, and that all the vocals were just kinds smushed in between the guitar, drums, and bass. Well, I listened to an advance copy today, and this is what I have to say... When its not the 64kbs stream of VH1, which was pretty good, the tracks take on a new life.. there are so many subtlties that are not apparent in the streams, and it adds to all the songs, and the vocals are loud and clear... A couple of songs that this really helped on... Without You Here: I couldn't get into it, it just all seemed so blah, but trust me, in CD quality, everything comes through strong, and to me at least, sounded like a different song. Both of Robby's Songs: Listen and Strange Love: OMG, Listen sounded 1,000 times better, while I loved the song when I first heard it, it's much better. So, all I have to say is don't judge the cd by VH1, because it sounds so much better than that...and with the better sound I'm sure that most of you will appreciate the new direction that they went with this new album, because for me, it sounds awesome. Enjoy! I know I'll be one of the first people to buy it when it comes out on Tuesday!! :rockin: |

Title: Re: VH1 stream vs. actual advance copy Post by fizzygoo2 on Apr 21st, 2006, 6:50pm I also got an advance copy, but I have a Mac so the VH1 stream doesn't work for me. Now I really loved the album at first listen, and when I came on here and heard people tearing it to shreds I was very disappointed and I hoped that the VH1 version was contributing to the negativity. Glad to hear I was right. I was so impressed by all the harmonies and variety of sound and subtle layering of guitar, vocal, and electronic tracks on this record, and nobody was commenting on any of that at all. So hopefully once everyone gets the album on Tuesday they will learn to appreciate, or further appreciate, the sophistication of this album. |

Title: Re: VH1 stream vs. actual advance copy Post by [Joelage] on Apr 21st, 2006, 7:59pm man, i managed to get my greasy paws on an advanced copy of the disc, (still cant wait to get the offical one) but my favourties, Robby's first song, "listen" is awesome.... "i'm drowning but i never felt so free.." its a bit slower than what you might be 'used to' but its great and 'mature' Let Love In starts of very uniquley, a very careful blend of all the instruments that is crafted into a built up of the chorus. it starts of a little haunting then break outs in to this awesome positivity. "you're the only one i'd ever believe in..." its awesome to have more goo songs :) - its been a while between drinks! |

Title: Re: VH1 stream vs. actual advance copy Post by Pon on Apr 21st, 2006, 9:46pm I don't agree with the person who said the quality was horrible. I mean, why would anybody criticize free streaming music? I mean, if it's not Itunes or a paid mp3 download or the CD, then we can't judge. By the way, I made a CD of the streaming...sounds like it was from a regular cd to me..but i'm not a pro. The streaming was x-cellent in my opinion. and i will buy the CD. I only buy Goo CDs and they are the only artists that I would never screw. I screw Chinese and Japanese music...as well as most American artists...but not the goo's. Not me!! |

Title: Re: VH1 stream vs. actual advance copy Post by googoofan5 on Apr 22nd, 2006, 11:36pm Yeah, on Thursday night, I have to say though, that they kept it under wraps for the longest amount of time than any other artist. Usually you can get a cd almost a month before it comes out. Anyway, I just can't wait to buy it and see what kind of stuff they have inside. |

Title: Re: VH1 stream vs. actual advance copy Post by F_clef on Apr 23rd, 2006, 9:15pm I have to secede to a sort of "forced abstinence" from hearing the whole thing. I dont like to wait for things but I enjoy stuff more when I do so I'm glad that I was forced to do so due to my crappy ISP |
