Title: Re: Band Name Change Post by [Joelage] on Apr 1st, 2006, 6:01pm Thats an interesting one.. what about EOAC? they released that as "goo goo dolls" which then leads me to believe its because some of the songs had george in it? or... If you remember in "behind the music" about their sour deal with metal blade records, where the contract was meant to last 'X' number of albums, perhaps the ones with "The" goo goo dolls are the ones when they finially severed the ties with metal blade and became fully with WB - or.. its just a copy right thing? lol |

That's wrong. When it comes to royalties, especially related to songwriting, artists will only receive a royalty cheque (ie: money!) if they have specifically contributed to any part of the song - be it the lyrics or the music. It doesn't matter what the band's name is... That still doesn't really shed any light on the dropping or retaining of the 'THE' part of their name though .... ??? |

Title: Re: Band Name Change Post by carlyn on Apr 4th, 2006, 8:51pm I think Robby once was saying in an interview that everyone started calling them "The Goo Goo Dolls" and it sorta became that, so when they were printing hte album covers and stuff, they just naturally wrote it twith "the" in front. Maybe. or it could have something to do with all that legal stuff. |

Title: Re: Band Name Change Post by magoo1516 on Apr 5th, 2006, 2:35pm it's funny you bring this up b/c on the West Wing last week they commented on the same issue "Is that the Foo Fighters?" "It's just Foo Fighters, no The". I think that we just generally put The in front of a title. Especially if it's just one. Kind of like there The One And Only. But then other bands it doesn't fit naturally, like Pink Floyd. Maybe just for bands that sound plural? The Flock of Seagulls, The Gorillas, etc. |
