Title: Re: Studio Journal Update: Started Mixing! Post by caineggd on Dec 7th, 2005, 1:28pm im assuming that since they stated they just started mixing, they haven't been mixing all along, just recording material.... so, like.... my thinking is that all the material itself that will be on the cd has been recorded, and now mr. glenn ballard is up there in the studio working with the goos to put all the individual recorded tracks together, clean it up a bit like they do... and depending on the material, it shouldn't be too long before everythings all mastered and ready to be sent off so all the cds can be made to be released. being unfamiliar with what exactly they're working on... i can't really say how long it could take for all the mixing to be done. this also depends on how many projects the producer is working on at the time. for example... my old roomate's cd took like 3 months to get all the mixing and mastering and what-not done.... but it should be considered that they had to re-record a few things, and not all the recording was done when the mixing began anyway. plus the producers were working on many different things at the time. jordan hersaft was one of the guys working on aaron's cd (aaron=my old roomate)... and one saturday when i was up at the studio him and i sat down at like 2 pm, and by i think it was like 9 that night we had mixed and mastered this one band's cd... it was 11 tracks total i believe...... so yeah... starting mixing doesn't really tell us much about how long til the cd is released..... but its really cool to know reguardless. **i hope this post makes sense.... im all sick and sh**.... feel kinda like im having to ramble on to try to get to the point.... so sorry yall if it doesn't make too much sense, but i hope it helps a little for anyone whos curious. -C |

more specifically to your question... since again i point out that i feel like sh** and am not sure how much sense im making at all.... when a cd is recorded, they record like the individual instruments and vocals, and then combine all the different recorded parts on the computer... making sure everything is equal, at the correct volume levels.. etc, etc. like if you were to look at the computer screen in the recording studio you'd see like "lead guitar 1" "lead guitar 2" etc, "snare" so on and so forth... and you can solo out those individual tracks to play them and edit them before they are all "smashed together" into the song.... pretty much they're taking those individually recorded parts and putting them all together just right to make the songs.... kinda like mixing cookie dough, because you have to have all the right ingredients, and it has to be put together right so you have cookies... except this is like instruments and music... making a song.... does that help??? -C |

THANKS! Kind of what I thought, but your explanation was clear regardless of your poor health. Sorry 'bout that and hope you feel better soon! It just clears up that mixing is a non formulaic process- not written in stone whether it will be two days, two weeks, or two months...at least we know it won't be two years! -M |
