Title: Your review of better days video
Post by happygoofan on Nov 4th, 2005, 4:23am
The video is pretty cool i like the darkness of the video. i dont get why its in the woods but the best part of the video is when they have love faith etc carved in the tree. Think its one of their best so far. I am kind of curious to why john made the video the way he did.The little boy in it is really cute though kind of looks like a younger version of john when he was a kid, the end was the best when john is looking at that little boy maybe its a shows a look into his past.

I think it is supposed to be a younger version of him and he's a lost orphaned child who has no where to go. :'( But overall it's fabulous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really loved the video, its very similar to lazy eye in my opinion. I think the darkness of the video really works well, one of their best

Well, I like it.
I've been going through some stuff lately, so the lyrics of the song touched my heart.
And I like the music.
I think the kids kind of show that the youth hold the key to bringing about change in our world, if we will nurture them with love and kindness.
And even though it is sort of a dark video, there are shards of light that shine through, which demonstrate the "hope," if we have "faith," and "love," and will live in "truth."

Thanks GOOS!  I love you guys!

that's kind of what I was thinking.

Anyone notice there are a lot of close-ups of Mike in this video? That's pretty cool.

But...only one close-up of Robby. Shame on you, Mister Director.  :tantrum:

I have always preferred the videos like this that were less conceptual and more band centered.  I just love watching the band play and the dark backdrop is great.  I love that we get to see more of Mike & Robby.  How CUTE is that little boy?!  Adorable.  Video definitely fits the song.  YAY!  So glad I got to see it and can't wait to see it on the big screen (TV not 17 inch computer screen).

I'm problem the only one who differs here....for me it was one of those vids that you watch...you get to the end...and you're not sure whether you like it or not.

I agree!  That was the first thing I thought after it was over...then I was like, um, I don't know how I feel about the video.  Its really dark, but pretty at the same time...

I thought John looked kind of awkward when he was playing and singing the chorus the first time or two.  Anyone else?

But its great to see the new video!  Yay!  :)  Can't wait for the new album.

Don't get me wrong... I love this song.  But I think the video is too dark for the lyrics.  The song is hopeful and should inspire people to reach out... I keep thinking about those poor little kids who seem lost in the forest (you can tell I'm a mom).  Especially if this is supposed to be a christmas song...

On the other hand, any video of the goos is good video.

I thought that the video was good.  It was a little dark but I think that the darkness was a good way to set the mood of the song.

overall I would say it was a great video!!

I think the thing about John, who wrote the song, is that he doesn't want to be similar. I think he mentioned in the WPLJ interview that he didn't want to use the usual Christmas cliches for the song.. so I wasn't by any means expecting even the slightest hint of it being a Christmas song in the video.

The video is just "nice" for lack of a better word.  Who needs anything other than "nice" in the world today.  Don't read too much into the "weird kid thing".  My mind didn't even go there and am disappointed that our society these days makes us even think that way.  Hope, faith, love, peace.  It's what it's all about people!  It's why we're all here on this message board!  Come on...there was so much Johnny face time...how could anything be wrong with that!  MMMM....just SO hot.

Pretty cool vid, I couldn't make it out that well on that Yahoo! thing (really bad quality, even with broadband) - but I think the concept is great.

i just couldn't agree more with that

I thought it was a beautiful and mystical video. Very dreamlike.
The kid thing - he's looking at himself when he was a child - how innocent the world looks when your that age and now he's grown up and seen the real world, he wants to try and see the world in a better light again. Hope, faith, trust - all good things of humanity that we all have within but with age get hard to hold onto - the child represents the innocent beauty within the world and the magical forest helps that idea too.
Hope that made sense!

Yes, i agree with Girl Right next to him, so much johnny face time (lol) - what else do you need.  ;)

I love the video, but the tree's look kindof fake, and the lights sorta make it look cheesy, but overall XXXcellent!

the light makes it look cheesy ??? ??? :thinkin:

Doesnt the little kid have near exactly the same nose as john!! the resemblence is pretty damn strong!

There could have been more close ups of Rob when they were filming, its just in the editing process they edit a lot of things out...

hopefully in their next video all of them will be shown as much....

I love the concept of the video, ppl who arent a goo goo doll fan or are but know nothing about them probably wont understand the last part about john.. but since a lot of us know, we can kinda grasp what its about if thats in fact what it's about

I thought it was wonderful, but it sounds more like a New Year's song to me, rather than a Christmas song. (Tonight's the night the world begins again?) Anyway, I love how the forest is all lit up and everything looks so mysterious. It is kind of sad, but I think that's the beauty of it.

So, I guess I'll be the odd one out and say that I thought the video was a little underdone. Does anybody else think that they could've done a lot better?  I liked the video for We Are The Normal better than Better Days.

And the hair before John cut his...LOL
It also kinda resembles the jacket John wore when they performed "Better Days" on the Today Show, too.  :ponders:

*thud* omg! cheesy?!?!?!?!!! Are you kidding me? That is the most non cheesy, sentimental, creative, touching video I've ever seen!!!!
Go watch the My Humps video, That right there is the true definition of cheesy!!! sorry, I'm just shcoked that anyone would call the lights cheesy, I think the lights gave it a mistical (sp?) kind of magical look to it!!! Gosh, I can't wait till vh1 puts it up on their site! dial up and yahoo just do not go together!!!!!But to each his own, I didn't really like the fact that they didn't hardly show Robby. But Mike got a lot of "attention"(for lack of a better word) in the video, I think it's about time Mike gets a little attention. I love the entire concept of the video with the lost children roaming through a forest lit up with green and blue lights!! It's beautiful and I fell in love with the band all over again!!!

i think the lights were meant to create a 'non-literal' atsmophere, as well as mood (see the use of lighting in movies)

they also helped animate the background instead of something as static...also it was dark, and maybe they wanted us to see the sourroundings.

I Love This Video! The concept is so beautiful as well as the cinematography (the lights, the lost children, all the Johnny close ups)I was very moved by the ending Johnny still seems like a lost little boy in some ways and I got that message loud and clear in this video. We can't go back and change things but we can try to view life in a better light. To view it through a childs innocent eyes again.I don't care what anyone says this is the best video I have ever seen.I am very proud of our band for this beautiful song and video to match. :)

OMG, what an awesome video!  It's one of their best yet and it's truly amazing!  I absolutely loved the close ups of John and the whole darkness of the video.  Wow...I'm really impressed with it!  It shows that the Goos have not lost their knack.  ;D

That's exactly how I felt about the video too. Very well said kymbreleigh. You put into words beautifully what I felt but just couldn't seem to say.

I absolutely LOVED the video.  It was a bit dark on my computer, but I think it will look better on tv.  I can't wait to see it on VH1!

I was a little critical of the song when it first came out.  I didn't really like it, but together with the visuals, this is absolutely brilliant!

Forgot to bring my headphones into college, so I watched the vid without sound. So Fab. Could watch it a hundred times over. Forest looks so pretty, though I don't think that the concept was John's idea, necessarily.I think for most music videos its the director who comes up with the concept, although I could be wrong. I don'tread much into videos either, y'know, boy symbolising John's past etc. I just look at the pretty moving pictures.... :P
