Title: Article on new album Post by buffalowing43 on Jun 7th, 2005, 11:43am http://u.dailynews.com/Stories/0,1413,211~23521~2906850,00.html The Goo Goo Dolls are set to start recording their next album in mid-July - with guidance from illustrious producer Glenn Ballard to help "push us to the next level," says lead singer Johnny Rzeznik. That's pretty humble-sounding talk from someone whose band is about to be honored as a musical legend at Thursday night's 13th annual American Society of Young Musicians House of Blues Benefit Concert and Awards Show in West Hollywood. "I guess I could sit back and be comfortable, but I want to see what more I can do," says Johnny, who tells us he wants to take risks with the next disc. In fact, he notes, he left L.A. and went back to his Buffalo, N.Y., roots last year to stoke his creative fires. "I needed a good, long winter to get my perspective back and reacquaint myself with the plot, and it definitely had an effect on my music," he says. "The people there are the salt of the earth. It's a beautiful town. I found it a really moving experience. It's too easy here. I'm probably not long for L.A." ....makes me a little nervous with the whole taking risks on the new album. |

when he says taking risks, i don't think it's anything to worry about. it's not like he's not gonna go from making rock to 80's pop or something. that's considered risky to me. i think he's just talking about trying something new. he went from DUTG music of more emotional, mainstream rock to GF with heavier rock - excluding "Sympathy" - which was something none of us expected. i wouldn't worry about it. it'll be different but we should all trust that it'll be great no matter what. have faith. ;) |

Title: Re: Article on new album Post by blessed_by_goo on Jun 7th, 2005, 1:28pm John once said he scared the shit outta himself with Sympathy. But that he took the risk and put it out there anyway and that it was a learning experience for himself. It proved fruitful and he wouldn't be our Johnny if he didn't take risks. It's what we have to do to grow as humans. he also has said, if people don't like my music then don't listen. he's also said he would never change anything that he has done no regrets in any of his songs. He's proud of them all. I don't think he would let himself or anyone else down now. Would you want to live your life asking yourself what if I....but never did. It would be cowardly to have all the options right there in your face begging for you to reach out and grab them and never did. God bless him for taking the risks he has in the past and future. We would never have NAME or Sympathy and god knows what else without them. Everything happens for a reason..... I will love them reguardless for taking the risks on our behalf and their own. He has to say he tried. |

Title: Re: Article on new album Post by nmf016 on Jun 8th, 2005, 4:38pm Found a different version of this article, with a Ryan Cabrera nod in it: SECTION: WIRE - ENTERTAINMENT; Pg. E7 LENGTH: 747 words HEADLINE: Goo Goo Dolls' Rzeznik ready to take some risks DATELINE: The Goo Goo Dolls are set to record their next album mid-July BODY: with guidance from illustrious producer Glenn Ballard to help "push us to the next level," says lead singer Johnny Rzeznik. That's pretty humble-sounding talk from someone whose band is about to be honored as a musical legend -- at Thursday night's 13th annual American Society of Young Musicians House of Blues Benefit Concert and Awards Show in West Hollywood. "I guess I could sit back and be comfortable, but I want to see what more I can do," says Johnny, who tells us he wants to take risks with the next disc. "I needed a good long winter to get my perspective back and reacquaint myself with the plot, and it definitely had an effect on my music," he says. "The people there are the salt of the Earth. It's a beautiful town. I found it a really moving experience." Rzeznik smiles when asked about 22-year-old Ryan Cabrera, declaring that Cabrera's going to produce his second album himself. Rzeznik produced Ryan's debut CD "Take It All Away" last year -- and was given lots of credit by critics for its success. "I think after working with me doing a record, he's made a wise decision!" Rzeznik laughs. But seriously, "Ryan's a talented kid, a quick study. He knows what to do and what he wants; he just needs a good engineer. He'll be fine." The Goo Goo Dolls are being honored along with names including Josh Groban, Dwight Yoakam and Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth at the event that supports the organization's mentoring and scholarship assistance for young musicians |

Title: Re: Article on new album Post by MethodInMadness on Jun 9th, 2005, 10:44pm I think they've always sort of reinvented themselves with each album they put out. Not in a bad way tho, I mean it gives them a different sound each time that reflects the time period and how they felt then. Change is good. :) |
