Title: Please Help Me!! Post by AnGeLsFaLL on May 9th, 2005, 5:12pm Ok Heres my problem..I have this poetry notebook due Friday..and I really wanna make it all GGD'd out and stuff..I'm using Name as an example of a ballad, but I need help..I need full songs for these: 1. A lyric poem..which song do you think has the best lyrics? 2. Free Verse..idk if I can do ggds for this one..but a free verse can be rhymed or unrhymed but it can't have any fixed metrical pattern... 3. Couplet..this is where two lines of poetry rhyme right after another over and over..like There is a Lowell, who's striving Parnassus to climb, Whith a whole bale of isms tied together with rhyme. 4. Concrete poem..I'm doin black balloon written in a shape of a balloon for this one.. 5. Narrative-I was sort of thinking Slide for this one..but I don't know if its easy enough to discern that is a story..can you think of a better story song by them? The rest are just short little synpits of songs..like a couple of lines: 1. Simile- Compares two things using like or as..Example: The mouse's tail is hanging from it's mouth like a limp shoelaces. 2. Metaphor-same as a simile but doesn't use the words like or as..just states.. The mouse's tail was a shoelace hanging from its mouth. 3. Personification- A comparison in which human qualities are given to an inanimate object or animal..example: The moss ran down the tree. (The moss didn't actually run..its like a figure of speech) 4. Alliteration- An approximate rhyme in which initial consanant sounds are the same. Example: OUt of the Hills of Habersham, Down the Valleys of Hall 5. Imagery-Use of words that appeal to the senses..Ex: I love the look, austere, immmaculate, Of landscapes drawn in peraly monotones...Bear hills, cold silver on a sky of slate, A thread of water, Churned to milky spate.. 6. Onomatopoeia-Words that sound like they mean (growl hiss pop)..i can't think of any in the songs..but i know theres gotta be sumthin! Thats it...any help would be GREATLY appreciated..this thing could be cool...the only thing basically all year that I've been able to work GGD's into at my HIGHLY strict Christian school...yeah..so I'll be checkin back every so often..please help me! |

Title: Re: Please Help Me!! Post by AmyJo on May 9th, 2005, 8:01pm If you go to their official site (googoodolls.com) you can get all the lyrics to all of their songs... it might be easier for you to find something if you had all the words right there in front of you. Just in case you don't know where to look, here's some directions. On their home page, click on the third square from the left (there is a row of squares running horizontally across the top and when you roll over them it will display what link they will take you to...you want the one for "music.") When it pulls up the music page you will have a list of all their releases on the side. Choose one and it'll pull up...along with a big ol' button labeled "Lyrics." The only one that I don't think has lyrics is LIB but of course you can find the lyrics to all of those tracks on their other releases. Hope that helps! |

Title: Re: Please Help Me!! Post by Dances with Goo on May 10th, 2005, 12:41pm I'm not sure if this fits your definition of "personification" exactly, but: "Eyelids wrestle once again" ~from Full Forever or maybe this one: "Pop radio screaming down the halls" ~from What a Scene Metaphor: "I'm kicking through the walls in my mind" ~from It's Over Alliteration: "Baby's black balloon makes her fly" ~from Black Balloon Oh, yeah...I was thinking, if you attend a really strict Christian school, Slide may not be the best song to choose as the example of a narrative. On the Lie could pose a problem as well. |
