Title: Re: What song would you LIKE to hear live? Post by Julie on May 7th, 2005, 6:32pm I would love to hear It's Over. That's probably my most favorite song on Gutterflower. Also, I would love to hear them play All Eyes On Me more often. I agree that Bullet Proof and Ain't That Unusual need to be played. |

Title: Re: What song would you LIKE to hear live? Post by SuzieGoo on May 7th, 2005, 11:34pm The one song I missed hearing live in Buffalo was "We Are The Normal". I have this very vivid memory of the way that John sang it at the Paris in Vegas in August of 2003. I cried. It was beautiful. So I would have to say that is one I really want to hear again live. But "Slide" is always a "live" favorite....it's just so damn sexy when he whistles. And the energy of watching Robby sing live.....it's so infectious. In Daytona, I pointed at him..he smiled and pointed back...then everyone else did. Yeah....that made my day. Man....all of this talk is killing me and I can't go to Michigan. I pray everyday for a surprise show somewhere in Central Florida....maybe God will take pity of my Goo deprived little heart and hook me up. :embarrass: |

I have a couple of bootlegs where they play "Hate this Place" and I think John screws up the words every single time :D I'll second or third or whatever for "Fallin' Down" And I vote for "Another Second Time Around", which is waaay underrated live. I especially vote for the version where they do intros in the middle of it. |

Title: Re: What song would you LIKE to hear live? Post by mchaps55 on May 9th, 2005, 3:51pm http://www.bristolpress.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=14080004&BRD=1643&PAG=461&dept_id=464194&rfi=6 FORT MYERS, Fla. --- Johnny Damon looks like Jim Morrison, hangs out with members of the band Cake and even had AC/DC singer Brian Johnson perform at his wedding. Lenny DiNardo has jammed with Juliana Hatfield and is getting guitar lessons from Lemonheads frontman Evan Dando. Theo Epstein is a Pearl Jam devotee and guitar enthusiast who jams at the Hot Stove, Cool Music concert every year. Tim Wakefield and Kevin Millar play guitar, too; James Taylor even visited the Red Sox spring training camp a few days ago. Advertisement Then theres Bronson Arroyo. He is such an accomplished guitar player and singer that he recently cut an entire album of cover songs with a backing band that included some of the top musicians in the rock world. The CD is due out in July, and hell headline a show at the Avalon Ballroom the following day. The Boston Red Sox are often compared to rock stars for their rebellious attitude and massive popularity wherever they go. But it seems that many Sox players would just as soon actually be rock stars. "Its a totally different experience," said Arroyo, who has also performed at the Hot Stove, Cool Music show. "Its a lot more nerve-wracking being on stage playing guitar than it is pitching at Fenway Park. Im a lot more comfortable on the mound. Its a totally different crowd. In baseball, the crowd is kind of waiting to see what you do, good or bad. On stage, theyre kind of going along with the vibe the whole time." Arroyo is the foremost example of the Sox rock n roll leanings. He walked into the clubhouse yesterday sporting a Kurt Cobain T-shirt. He said prior to the teams visit to the White House on Thursday that hed rather meet Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler than President Bush. Hes so dedicated to playing guitar that recently, after arriving home at 2 a.m., he popped in a Goo Goo Dolls DVD and couldnt go to sleep until learning a few songs. But Arroyo insists that hes not auditioning for a second career if this baseball thing doesnt pan out. "Itll always be sort of a hobby," he insisted. "I love playing, I love singing and I wouldnt mind being on stage whether its (before) 10 people or 10,000 people. But I just cant take it that seriously. Its something thats just fun." So much fun that, after impressing some music industry insiders with his vocal prowess at the Hot Stove, Cool Music show, Arroyo was invited to record a CD out in Los Angeles. Arroyo sang a dozen of his favorite songs, including "Black" by Pearl Jam, "Plush" by Stone Temple Pilots and "Pardon Me" by Incubus, with a backing band that included John Cougar Mellencamp drummer Kenny Aronoff. Damon, DiNardo and Kevin Youkilis recently recorded backing vocals for "Dirty Water" at a studio in Florida. The CD, "Covering All the Bases," was produced by Loren Harriet, who produced the jazz guitar CD "The Journey Within" by Yankees center fielder Bernie Williams a few years ago. Its slated for a July 12 release. While Arroyo may be the most prominent musician on the team, DiNardo may be the biggest music fan. The left-handed reliever, who stuck around with the club all of last season as a Rule V draftee but will likely be ticketed for Pawtucket this season, is close friends with Dando and Hatfield, playing guitar for the latter at the Hot Stove, Cool Music show. Hes been a fan of the Boston rock scene for years, even while growing up in Florida, and believes the interaction between rock stars and musicians has a lot to do with that music scene, coupled with the citys passionate devotion to the Red Sox. In fact, even though he pitched just 27 2/3 innings last season, DiNardo found that being a Red Sox has plenty of musical perks. He got to meet REM lead singer Michael Stipe backstage last fall, and though Stipe isnt a big sports fan, he was a bit starstruck meeting a member of the Sox. Damons musical leanings are well-known. Hes friendly with members of Cake, American Hi-Fi and Seven Dust, and last year he and Arroyo recorded backing vocals on a track on the latter bands CD. The long-haired center fielder surprised guests at his star-studded December wedding when Johnson, the scream machine from heavy metal legends AC/DC, popped onstage. Ron Johnson, the new PawSox manager who skippered Damon in Double-A a decade ago, was at the wedding and was about to leave when Damon told him to stick around for the surprise. "I told my wife we should hang around for a couple of minutes, weve got to see something," Johnson recalled. "Next thing I hear is, Back in Black! I was like, Hey Johnny, nice call." "He blew the house down," Damon said of the AC/DC frontman. "It was amazing." All this musical talent in one clubhouse would seem to lend itself to some sort of band being formed by Sox players and staff. Nothing could be further from the truth, according to Arroyo. "Were so far from putting together something thats good," the pitcher claimed. "If you put me, Lenny, Theo and Wake playing music together, we would sound like a bunch of cats in a tin can." |

Title: Re: What song would you LIKE to hear live? Post by mchaps55 on May 9th, 2005, 3:53pm http://www.cantstopthebleeding.com/index.php?m=20050413 The truth is, I missed the following item because upon opening todays NY Times, I never got past Ben Ratliffs review of Sonic Youth at the Hiro Ballroom. Which, by the way, sounded like a hot show, but who do Endless Boogie and Chain Gang have to fuck to catch a break from the Times Arts section? From Jack Curry in Wednesdays NY Times : Bronson Arroyo popped a CD of his vocals into the stereo in the Boston Red Sox weight room about two months ago, turned up the volume and waited anxiously for a reaction. This was Arroyos anonymous audition for his teammates. No one noticed. No one asked Arroyo to change the disc. As his covers of Pearl Jam, Goo Goo Dolls and Stone Temple Pilots songs filled the room, the Red Sox were oblivious to the fact that one of their pitchers had done a slick job of morphing into Eddie Vedder, Johnny Rzeznik and Scott Weiland. Arroyo watched his teammates lift weights, tease each other and even bop their heads to the music - his music - over the next hour. For Arroyo, the silence was as rewarding as getting a standing ovation at Fenway Park. If you listen to tunes that youve heard your whole life and nobody says anything, it usually sounds good or sounds similar to the people who sang them, Arroyo said. If it sounded really bad, Im sure they would have said: What is this? Get it off. I dont wanna burst Bronsons bubble, but being able to mimmick the manly-moody-moanings of Vedder, Rzeznik & Weiland isnt exactly covering a wide stylistic swath. I mean, why not throw Shannon Hoon in there as well. Whether or not Arroyos teammates were just being polite, I cant say for sure, but for all of Sammy Sosas clubhouse sins, no one ever accused him of passing his own singing off as music. |

Heh, that would very very cool. I guess the problem is that the Goo's only have a certain amount of time to play for, and they have so many great songs - it must be getting harder and harder for them to choose which ones to play!! Someone had an idea a while ago (I can't remember when or who, sorry) that they should play over 2 nights - and one night play songs from ABNG and older, and the second night do DUTG and GF - I think that would be a good way of getting all the songs we wanna hear played!! ;) |

Post by Dream of Goo on May 12th, 2005, 4:53pm There are so many that they could sing, which they won't as much now and its hard to choose cos each one has its own feel to it for the fans, if someone told ask me which song i would prefer out of goo list its quite impossible.... it depends on mood and time and place. I am liking the idea of the two day concert that would b awesome.. and could be better than LIB - a weekend festival dedicated to goo goo dolls. Haven't the goos already had goo goo dolls day in Buffalo??!! i think i missed that. |
