Title: 2012, Goos into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame... Post by Acoustic #G on May 1st, 2005, 8:14pm "Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Criteria include the influence and significance of the artists contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll. " Found on Rock and Roll Hall of Fame site (rockhall.com) Since their 1st record was released in 1987...do your math and they can be inducted in 2012. Which I believe they are very qualified and no doubt they desearve it. If bands i've never heard of can make it in the Hall of Fame, then the Goos definitely have a great chance since they are known very well around the world by a wide age group. Wow...the goos are gonna be legends! Not that they arnt already ;) |

Title: Re: 2012, Goos into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.. Post by DrPepperGoo87 on May 1st, 2005, 11:36pm i think they have a shot. they've definitely earned it. DUTG is what's gonna push them into the Hall Of Fame, i bet, if anything. not that it's a bad thing but they should be appraised for thier other music too. they were barely recognizable by the majority of world until DUTG came out, if not "Name". it would be really awesome if they were comprised in the Hall Of Fame though. ;D i'm pretty sure they'd be proud and happy about it, as would fans. |

Title: Re: 2012, Goos into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.. Post by Caroline on May 2nd, 2005, 11:49am If they make it in and The Replacements don't, I will be seriously pissed. I have my doubts that the Goos will be inducted. Not that I don't think they are worthy but I don't think they've been huge innovators or influencers. |

Well, I'd give it some time. If I'm correct, the Replacements have only been eligible for a year or two. Only time will tell. |

I agree they aren't as big and music-scene changing as some other bands. Even though they made a big impact on everyone's lives here, it's only cuz we love them so much and we're their really big fans, but not compared to everyone out there. I would be cool if they got in, and I'm not trying to diss them or anything, just don't get your hopes up. |

Title: Re: 2012, Goos into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.. Post by Iris74 on May 2nd, 2005, 5:38pm Would I like to see that happen? YES. Will it? No way. They've got a great sound, but I feel they just don't qualify on the "development and perpetuation of rock". I look at it like this -- have they influenced anything or anyone? Something like a certain rock style/movement (Nirvana and the grunge movement, they're a shoe in when the time comes), or a large amount of upcoming musicians? (the Ramones/Springsteen /Pink Floyd - bands/artists like that). Based on that view, the Replacements SHOULD get in, but not the Goos. I love them to death, but I don't think they're groundbreaking. Sorry guys. :dunno: But there are a TON of great bands that will never be in the Hall, just as there are a ton of great sports players that will never be in their respective Hall of Fames. Can't put everyone in, or it wouldn't be special. As far as not hearing about some of the bands, they take artists from all time periods (and most of us weren't around when rock and roll started), and not all of them are bands. Some are producers/radio personalities people like that. |

Title: Re: 2012, Goos into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.. Post by AnGeLsFaLL on May 2nd, 2005, 7:45pm Yeah..but some of the bands inducted aren't that amazing or music changing either...I wouldn't be too surprised if they did get inducted! I think they deserve it.... |

Title: Re: 2012, Goos into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.. Post by nmf016 on May 2nd, 2005, 8:00pm I don't know if they'll get in or not. I don't think they're groundbreaking, but who knows what they'll do in the future? Additionally, if you look at the other bands that put out their first records at the same time as the Goos you'll see a lot of hairbands, etc. So based on pure longetivity and a few records that the Goos hold I think there's a chance. (And Caroline, I think the Replacements will make it in eventually.) |

Title: Re: 2012, Goos into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.. Post by LandofOzGooFan on May 2nd, 2005, 9:41pm OK, I disagree with some of you guys...I'm an older fan and I have been listening to music for well alot of years and I think the Goo's have been groundbreaking and innovative. I love all kinds of music and while both John and Robby have different styles, they are both very talented songwriters and that is important. And I think "staying power" and "hits" have something to do with the nominations too. Anyway, I think they deserve it and I hope they get in their first year! Peace guys! |

Title: Re: 2012, Goos into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.. Post by Skkyer on May 3rd, 2005, 9:48am I think you also have to take into account politics in the music business. The Goo Goo Dolls give to a lot of charities, they are active in the Buffalo community, they help other bands, their music has been in movies, and they are great business men. They don't just make music, they wear many different hats. I think all this will be looked at along with other things when the people who decide whether or not to vote them in review the pros and cons. |

Title: Re: 2012, Goos into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.. Post by NeverFadeToGrey on May 3rd, 2005, 1:38pm considering for a long time they were called replacement ripoffs i don't see it happening. would i like it to? oh hell yeah but who knows what the future will hold. but say on the off hand chance they did get in who would you guys like to see induct them? |

Title: Re: 2012, Goos into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.. Post by Iris74 on May 3rd, 2005, 4:08pm The guy that probably wouldn't show up if his band got inducted. lol! Paul Westerberg. John's spoken so highly of him over the years, that's the first person I think of. |

Title: Re: 2012, Goos into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.. Post by LandofOzGooFan on May 3rd, 2005, 9:08pm What a great question! I have no idea....maybe some younger people that they have influenced and people they admire...Kiss, P. Westerberg, John Prine, who inspired Mike?? |

Title: Re: 2012, Goos into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.. Post by goober_1013 on May 3rd, 2005, 9:37pm i think this is an excellent question and lots of great opinions! do they deserve it? absolutely! i mean, is the music groundbreaking to people other than the fans? no matter what people think about her, Avril Lavigne seems to think so and they've inspired her. her fans read that, go out and buy a Goo Goo Dolls album out of curiosity, new fans. . .and rzeznik does have some strange guitar tunings that have gotten some notice, that's groundbreaking that he's made it mainstream. . .but who really knows? only time will tell. . . ;D |

Title: Re: 2012, Goos into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.. Post by girlnamedgrace on May 4th, 2005, 5:54am I really don't think they'd be inducted, but, then again, they inducted u2. Sorry all U2 fans but I think Bono is the most pretensious poo on the planet. He drives me up the wall with his idiotic 'stirring' speeches. What an odiot. I know he's done great things for third world countries etc. but God, the guy drives me absolutely insane with he hypocritical, holier-than-thou attitude. Also, are The Pixies in it? Coz I feel like they started the whole grunge movement but Nirvana made it mainstream. Just my 2 cents on the matter. Anywho, The Goos are legends already and don't need any Hall of Fame to tell them that. |
