Title: John's on NBC Nightly News!
Post by SuiteSam on Apr 22nd, 2005, 5:57pm
I was watching NBC nightly news just now and they showed a clip of the GGD's because they were doing a story about ticket scalpers. They mentioned that the GGD's were upset that tickets get bought up so fast by scalpers so that lots of their fans had to pay the high prices scalpers charge & not the ticketron prices....

He looked fantastic!!!

Thanks for the summary. I'm bummed I missed it. BTW... I HATE ticket scalpers. They just ruin it for the real fans.

Yeah, seriously. I thought I had a chance with Nine Inch Nail tickets. Both shows sold out in less than a minute, but I can find them for at least four times the original price on EBay.

I better get in line now to get tickets for the fall shows. >_<

ok, i'm just wondering here, as i have gone through ticket scalpers for Goo tickets before. . .how do they get them first?  i mean, they've got these great seats, outrageously priced, and on ebay before they have even gone on sale to the public. . .how do they get first dibs?. . . ;D

I wish I'd saved the link to the article I read.  Basically, a lot of scalpers are getting people on "the inside" (like someone working at the ticketmaster outlets) to print out prime tickets ahead of the on sale date.  So they're "sold" before the public ever gets the chance to get them.

I think the only way to "help" is to avoid buying tix from them...It will never TOTALLY go away unfortunately. Supply and demand sucks!  :-/

I dont know how they do it but the brokers are in with the venu as well as ticketmaster .
They have their own little sale to get prime tickets .
I wish the Goos would sell tickets thru their site .
Maybe we would have a shot at good seats then .

I agree! I am tired of travelling hours to see them, and I end up in the nosebleed section.  :pissed: I miss the "general admission" days. I was up front then!

all the general admission concerts i have been to, i've had really bad luck with, including one general admission Goo concert.  and i know i shouldn't buy from ticket scalpers, but it's hard not to. . .for me anyway. . .

most of the time, the concert is out of state and i'm not travelling all that way, as somebody else said on here, for 'nosebleed' seats.  that's a waste of my time and gas money.  i did that one time and i will never do it again, it was the worst show i had been to, and not because Goo wasn't great, they were. . .it was the fact that we drove like 3 hours, had to watch them on the screen, it was hot and all my sister did was complain that my purse was hitting her.  then back at the hotel everyone was in a crappy mood and i blame it on my nosebleed seats.  if our seats were awesome, i think my sister could have cared less if my purse was hitting her. . .*sigh*. . .so, from that day forth, i made a solemn vow; if i had to beg, borrow, cheat, steal or kill i would never have nosebleed seats again!  i went all scarlet o'hara on ya, didn't i?  ;)  ok, maybe not that drastic, but ya get what i'm saying. . . ;D

I think that ebay should put some rules and regulations into order about the start price of tickets. They should sell for face value and then if the bid gets higher, it does. I hate it when scalpers start the bid at four times the face value. Right now I am having a hard time looking for Tom Petty tickets(i know that it is off the subject) But it ruins it for the real fans. Don't get me wrong, I have had some luck with ebay, but a lot of the time, the prices are outrageous.

The tickets go fast because of the wonderful world of computers.  I really don't see how this problem will ever go away.  I would love to see a concert where tickets will only be sold the day of the event that morning at the door.  Yes, people who travel would have to spend two nights in the city, but I think you would have a better chance at tickets.  I would also like to see bands play three nights in a city.  I know in my city, they just do one show - such a bummer.  I'm just dreaming, I know it won't happen.

Tom Petty did something really cool a few years ago.  Tickets went on sale, but all tickets had to be picked up by the person who bought the tickets - had to show ID, at the time of the concert.  That virtually shut out the scalpers, because once you showed ID they slapped a wristband on you and let you and your guests into the show right then and there.  And, by the way, it was one of the BEST concerts I have ever been to.  The energy was amazing.

That's a good idea.  I imagine there would be a lot of pushing and shoving at a concert where tickets are sold at the door...but then again, how would I know, I've never BEEN to one!  :(

That is a great idea. I want U2 tix so bad and I couldn't get them. Ebay prices are insane!
