Haven't heard any word about what it's inspired by or anything else at all. Going crazy wondering though. Treasure planet was cool wasn't it? Loved it. Of course, they could sing ring around the rosey and I'd still be in awe. Hmmmm.... theres a thought. |

Title: Re: New Goo Goo Dolls material 2005??? Post by unique on Apr 16th, 2005, 12:11pm Today I bought the new "musikexpress" (a german magazine; it's mainly about rock/alternative-bands) and there was just that tiny note but better than nothing: it said that the new goo goo dolls album will be released in september. I guess they mean the release in Germany, so you guys in the usa should get it a few weeks earlier... I am really excited :) |

Title: Re: New Goo Goo Dolls material 2005??? Post by ShanGooFan on Apr 29th, 2005, 11:28am The only thing I've heard was an article I read awhile back where John stated he was gonna try to write the next album in standard tuning. He'd been taking lessons and said that it was a huge challenge to him so he was going to try it. I guess we'll have to wait and see if he accomplished his goal or decided to go in a totally different direction. All I know is that I can't wait for some new music!!!! |

Title: Re: New Goo Goo Dolls material 2005??? Post by nmf016 on Apr 29th, 2005, 11:37am I believe John or Robby said the person who would produce the album was the Five For Fighting producer (Greg Wattenberg, I believe) I can't for the life of me find the article because I suck. |

Title: Re: New Goo Goo Dolls material 2005??? Post by ShanGooFan on Apr 29th, 2005, 1:23pm Standard tuning is the regular way a guitar is tuned... each string plays a separate note. John never took formal guitar lessons but rather taught himself to play. He would turn the tunings until it got to a sound he liked...which would often have two of the same note in the tuning. But it was never the same for each song. Which is why if you've ever seen him play live he needs a different guitar for each song. Most other guitar players usually only use a couple guitars during a show so each song can be played on the same guitar. I don't know if this makes sense. Maybe one of our guitar officianados here can explain this better. I understand what it means but I'm having a hard time explaining it with the correct terminology. |

Title: Re: New Goo Goo Dolls material 2005??? Post by Pon on Apr 29th, 2005, 1:46pm ya, don't know if i explain it right, but standard tuning is the worldwide standard setting that a guitar string is set up. Most guitars are set up in standard tuning and anybody who can play standard tuning can play the guitar. Usually non-standard tunings are set up for individual purposes and often, a lot of ppl who don't know what they are doing play in non-standard tuning I don't mean to knock john, but when u don't play in standard tunings, it kinda cheapens your skills cuz non-standard tunings are easier to play. It's like, u can't play a song, so u tune it a lil different to make it easier. It's kind of a way to cheat your way to a good sound. on 04/29/05 at 12:21:43, johnnysgirl wrote:

Title: Re: New Goo Goo Dolls material 2005??? Post by Dream of Goo on Apr 29th, 2005, 1:49pm Oh i get what your saying... totally makes sense thanks.. In the easter break i bought some guitar books cos i go to myself im gonna learn how to play a guitar but first i need to buy one ... and know what standard tuning is !!!! Yeah in live in buffalo i was wondering why he was changing the guitars oftenly.. i just thought hey he's a rock star he can do that kind a thing. But he plays well anyway, wonder how it will sound otherwise. |

Title: Re: New Goo Goo Dolls material 2005??? Post by Pon on Apr 29th, 2005, 1:49pm don't get me wrong, cuz i know ppl here are senstive, but John is the master of tuning his guitar. How it sounds is what counts at the end. i still think he's the best guitar player (in sound), but after I started playing the guitar, I don't give him as much credit anymore as a standard tuning guitar player cuz a newbie can sound like a professional if he tuning it for himself and not in standard tuning. |

Title: Re: New Goo Goo Dolls material 2005??? Post by Dream of Goo on Apr 29th, 2005, 1:53pm Oh okay, i get what your saying, those who know how to play guitar will understand the point yr making. But as i haven't yet learnt how to play, it all sounds good to me on the records. |

Title: Re: New Goo Goo Dolls material 2005??? Post by MethodInMadness on Apr 30th, 2005, 12:21am Still...that takes a lot of creativity. I tried to teach myself some goo songs from tabs and stuff, and it just doesn't sound right. |

Title: Re: New Goo Goo Dolls material 2005??? Post by Andi on Apr 30th, 2005, 6:49pm I kind of thought the GGD trademark was John's weird tunings. So, uh, under that assumption, booo standard tuning. |

Title: Re: New Goo Goo Dolls material 2005??? Post by MethodInMadness on Apr 30th, 2005, 7:44pm It might be fun to see if it sounds any different tho. Hopefully this new album will get a lot more radio time/promotion. |
