Title: GREAT GOO NEWS
Post by blessed_by_goo on Apr 12th, 2005, 4:33pm
Hubby came home from work and said he was listening to 94.9 and said the dj began to play GALB and as the song was beginning the dj announced this is the Goo Goo Dolls with Give a Little Bit. Goo Goo Dolls will be touring this summer opening for CHICAGO. Now before everyone gets all excited I need to tell you I havn't investigated yet... but am going to right now. If anyone sees something before me please let me know. I find it a little odd, them opening for somone else don't you???

Am I reading that right? Chicago? That, sounds odd to me. Secondly, OPENER? AGAIN?? NOOOOOO lol...I really hope not...the last time I saw them they opened for Bon Jovi and I paid 150 bucks for my ticket...I hope it's not like that again

I have mixed feelings on that..I really wanna see 'em again..but I'm more than likely gunna have to drive at least 5 hours for it...and its gunna be expensive for Chicago..and for just about 45 minutes of goo..from more than likely not so great seats...hm...I really don't like the whole opening thing..but I guess a lil goo is better than none?

I think they mean the tour is opening in Chicago.. :P

Chicago is playing this summer with Earth, Wind, and Fire and it does indeed open in Chicago.

I'm gonna call a "Fleetwood Mac" on this and say it's not true.  The only thing that scares me is that the Goos played EWaF on their bus every night during the GF tour, so they must be sort of fans.  I say at the most, if at all, they only open a handful of dates.

Still checkin guys.... Be patient with me.... The only thing I see is earth wind and fire opening for them... however (keep in mind so far I'm just looking at the New England area) there are a few venues listed that aren't mentioning openers.... TRUST me I don't wanna hear of em opening for another band but.... it is what it is I guess. I gotta go get supper started and then I think I'm gonna just call the radio station to see what the hell the deal is. Hopefully hubby heard wrong. BUT he's usually on the money. Unless the DJ screwed it up! If I get ahold of the radio station I will ask where they got their info so we can post it here

I asked hubby AGAIN and he said NO THEY DEFINITLY said opening FOR Chcago.....he said the guy said here's Goo Goo Dolls with Give alittle bit and if you wanna check them out they'll be opening this summer for Chicago. Exact words guys.... I don't know what to say. I just tried calling radio station, but it's a listeners hotline and it was a recording. I'm still looking. I tried doing a search on Chicgo in Google search engine, but they don't seem to have a website that I can locate. Hard to pick thru all the city of Chicago shit.
Gonna try looking into the other radio stations to see if they know anything. Just wanted to post back so ya'll don't think I posted and left ya hangin.

I hope it's not true. That would really suck.

First, the Goo's should be HEADLINING.

Second, if they're bringing a band along with them, please for the love of all things Buffalo, noone that could be classified as "soft rock" or "crap". They should be bringing a younger, up-and-coming, and most of all, energetic band, with them. They're setting their demographic way too old right now. Enough of this Top 40 and soft rock bullshit.

If it comes to getting crap like this tour with them, I'd like it if they went solo. I'd rather pay around $20-$30 to see just them than $40-$60 to see them and some crappy other band.

I thought touring with Bon Jovi was bad. This would be horrendous.

I agree ... they should be headlining. They've been around too long to go any other way. And they're hot enough, popular wise, to bring in a new vibous band to open. Hubby and I were just looking at some of the Chicago Ticket prices in Boston and NH and they were going anywhere from 75 being the cheapest upto 450!!!! Completely assinign!!!! And those were with no band showing as an opener. There were also some of their shows later in the summer out west that were goin for the same. Again no openers showing with the exeption of a few being EW&F! This could be scarey folks! I just hope this isn't going to be their idea of a tour. I hope the person that said this may be just a few shows was right!

I'm with you boynamedgoo, I mean I "kinda" like Chicago, but it just doesn't seem right those two touring together.

SAY IT AIN'T SO !!!! :-/

I will call the radio station and get ahold of someone tomorrow. One way or another! we'll figure it out! It would be awesome if the guys would hurry up and update the damn journal. Nothin like leavin us hangin!!!

I'm hoping that the DJ got it wrong.  I like Chicago and all...but that soooo does not seem like it would be a good idea.  Plus....most of us wouldn't be able to afford those shows anyway.  I'm still holding out for a slip of the tounge on that one....

called a friend at warner brothers.....since this is chicago's last tour, they are bringing on several major opening acts through various legs of thetour. the goos are signed up to be with them for a few weeks on one of the legs...very similar to when they opened for the rolling stones on a leg of their tour.  its good exposure, and a treat for the goos. :)

Title: Re: GREAT GOO NEWS
Post by beaucoup on Apr 12th, 2005, 11:32pm
do you know what leg of the tour they'll be on?

Title: Re: GREAT GOO NEWS
Post by nmf016 on Apr 12th, 2005, 11:44pm
So weird...

*Extra special annoyance: Chicago and EW&F are touring together, but their websites have different dates for different cities.

Example:  According to EW&F website, they're playing Cleveland twice, but the Chicago site says they're playing once, on a completely different date.

(I'm pretending that if the Goos do open and play Cleveland, the closest they're coming to Buffalo, that I can go.  But I'm definitely spending my summer about 3 feet from Montreal.  :( )

I'm so glad someone found something out! I was about to slap my hubby for makin an ass outta me! He was funny when he came home, cuz he was all cheshire cat grin, sayin I got GOOd news (of coarse he said it that way too) He was all proud as a peacock, especially when I told him no one knew! He of coarse wasn't overly impressed with my reaction, he said I figure you'd be happy. I said we'll I'm glad I know, but that don't make me overly enthused to know I'm gonna have to pay a good deal for a ticket if they're opening for them! Needless to say the distance I'm gonna have to travel to get to a show. I was actually just thinkin about it, and if a ticket is gonna run 374 for a good seat, plus driving expenses!!! I could book a flight to the Dearborn show, get a room and Mc'd's for food and return flight the next day... and it would still be cheaper than a Chicago/Goo show. That's whats ridiculous! Hubby finally saw on web what I meant in revelance to the cost. He nearly fell off the chair! He said OH GREAT, SO WHEN SHOULD I EXPECT THE LYNCH MOB! He says to tell you all, don't kill the messenger! LOL

i'm sorry, but am i the only person that's surprised that chicago is even still together, much less touring??  unless i'm just incredibly uninformed about their going-on's...and i like to flatter myself by thinking that i'm pretty well informed about music.

i don't know...this just reminds me of one of those weirdo reunion tours, like seeing Peter, Paul and Mary play at the state fair or something like that.  i don't know.  it's got some kind of "eww" factor that i can't put my finger on.

LOL no I felt the same way... when he came in and told me, I think I even turned my nose up like you do when theres a nasty ass smell in the room. LOL. I don't think I've even heard the band's name since the mid 80's, but they been around I guess.
What burns my ass is the fact they can fall off the face of the planet and reappear and can feel free to charge that ungodly amount $$$ for a show.

We don't quite have all the info yet.... still looking into it! I'm still gonna call radio station tomorrow, see what I can find out. If I can't get thru their listeners hotline, then I'll email them so it may take awhile to get the particulars. As we all know how slow radio stations can be at getting back to ya.

It would be great to see the boys on tour but I am not so sure about the whole Chicago thing either...
I mean I like Chicago and all but it just doesn't seem right.  Maybe it will be a double bill rather than Goo opening up for Chicago.  That would be cool.  Def Leppard and Bryan Adams are touring together as a double bill; maybe it will be like that?

LOL!!! I haven't post a message in a while, but read often and this is the best news so far. I was kinda questionable when u said opening for Chicago cuz I can't recall any songs by Chicago and it would suck to just watch them open for a band I don't like. I can't even stand Bon Jovi, let a lone Chicago.

My husband loves Chicago. Always plays them and saids "This song reminds me of you." I don't like them.  He doesn't like Goo.  Finally, after 24 yrs of marriage, a concert we can go to together! I hope they play somewhere near me!!

Well, if Chicago and the Goos make their way to massachusetts, i will go only for goo (depending on ticket prices of course). Gotta stay faithful to the goo, and I would regret not going to see them knowing they were in the same state.

But i am going to make an ass out of myself here and ask what does chicago sing? I cant think of one song.  :-/

The only one I can think of is Saturday In The Park! They have a ton of songs, but not being a fan of theirs, I don't know to many! I would go just to see the Goos if they come to my area!

They play a lot of mushy romantic love songs.  Husbands is a romantic - I'm NOT! They were the hottest love song band of the mid 70's.  Lots of horns and mush.  Ugh!!!! I didn't care for them when I was a teenage in the 70's and I still don't.

Hello:
Here is the press release for the Chicago / Earth Wind & Fire tour. It makes no mention of any rotating opening acts or that it is Chicago's final tour.  Two points brought up in another post to "confirm" this rumor.
I doubt very much this is true.  First off, the music just doesn't fit together. Secondly, the Goos are finishing their CD for a fall release. Are they going to tour in summer prior to its release?
I hate to put a damper on the people who are looking forward to it but I just don't think they should get their hopes up.
Also, I hope I'm not disparaging any people who posted previously.  If you think I am I apologize in advance.

Just my $0.02.

Later,

Kevin

The Chicago site shows the following tour dates without
Earth Wind and Fire...so maybe they will have the Goos open for them... All I know it's Chicago ONLY..meaning not EWF. Somebody has to open for them.

September 25, 2005 Tucson, AZ Desert Diamond Casino - CHICAGO ONLY
September 27, 2005 Santa Rosa, CA Luther Burbank Center - CHICAGO ONLY
September 28, 2005 Visalia, CA LJ Williams Theatre - CHICAGO ONLY
September 29, 2005 Highland, CA San Manuel Bingo & Casino - CHICAGO ONLY
