I've been trying mercilessly to convert my GOO videos to a disc I have no DVD burner. I'm converting to be able to view on dvd. I posted earler in week if there was still a way to convert and I was told I could. By changing the file format and opening in a program that would do it. Well I have Roxio and it WILL do it. BUT 1st I have to change the file type to an MPEG. How the hell do you change it. I know it's something simplistic, but I just can't remember HOW. I have GOT to get these videos out of my comp. They're chewin up WAY to much memory and killin my drive. I had full intention of doing it as soon as I filled a file. Well it's full and now I HATE to delete it just because I can't figure it out. Besides DELETE GOO!!!! YEAH RIGHT!!! That's like throwin away a diamond ring! PLEASE HELP!!!

If you don't have a dvd burner but want the files off your harddrive, you can burn the files as a data cd.  You won't be able to play them on your dvd player, but you can open the files and play them on your computer.  (Also you can put those files back on your computer from the cd whenever you want.)

what are the file types?
I have something on a cd that is in a format that will only work with windows media player and today I was able to convert the files from that format to the mpeg-1 format for v-cd

The file types are WM audio/video and WMF I know I can use my Roxio to make the actual cd, but they HAVE to be in MPEG file form otherwise the Roxio won't accept it. and for that matter I checked on my dvd's manual and it will read the MPEG format or vcd per your earlier instruction to me...thanks fuelie for all your help... anything more you can teach on this is greatly appreciated As for just saving them on a cd, that's a good idea for not having to just delete 'em to get the space back, but I'd like to try to avoid goin back in and changing all this around, I just wanna be done with it. I suck when it comes to " I'll do it later or someother time." I'm wicked with procrastination!

WM & WMF I've never seen those types. I've seen WMA. In order to do a video cd with the roxio because that is what I have it has to be a MPEG-1. What you have to do is find something that will convert those file types. The cd I have has the files in MPEG format but not
MPEG-1 so I had to convert the files to AVI and then to the MPEG-1. If you really want to do this and convert all the files its going to take some work. You can go to download.com and search for file converters for those types. Most of them you can download trial version but be careful because some of them will only let you convert a minute of the file. If you can find something that will convert those files to AVI then you can get TMPEGenc and that will convert the AVI to the MPEG-1 for v-cd format.
I am glad I got a dvd recorder. for the past week and a half I have been converting all my videos to DVD.

How much was your recorder??? That sounds like a lot of downing of programs to do what may only copy a min worth.... it would all be in vain ARGH this is frustrating

My recorder was a little less then 200. Its a DVD player with a record feature like a vcr. So I am copying all my goo stuff from vhs to DVD.
You can find the programs that will convert the entire file. Today I had to try a couple different AVI converters but I found one with a trial that will do the whole thing. Some give you so many times like 30 or 40. Then what you do is delete the program and then redownload the trial again. You can buy the programs and they range in price some are 30 bucks some are less.

You don't by chance have the location to the link that do these 30-40 by trial do you??? If not was these the ones you said you found at download.com??? Sad thing is I only have a few to do. I havn't jumped whole hog into this yet. but I WOULD like to take care of the ones I have till I get a recorder.

Okay maybe I found a way. The Videos I'm tryin to do this to.... Well if you go to page 2 of the posts page goto Post Galb video/ click it and then find my post to the link where that person could've downed GALB. In there you got Lazy eye video and Jay Leno and There You are and etc. Just for the hell of it click on Lazy Eye. Your windows will pop up do you wanna save or open, hit save (it won't start downing on ya) Next it will pull up where you wanna save it and what file format. So I clicked on that and it option out either WMF or All files. If I opt out with the ALL FILES option will that make in compliant with MPEG??? Cuz if so I'll just delete what I have and redo 'em !!! ???

go to download.com and in the search box do WMF to MPEG converter. It will give you a list of converters. There is one called A4 video converter 2.3. It will do that WMF file and a bunch of others I've never seen. It will do the whole file but on the limitations it leaves a watermark on the output file.
Just do a search for file coverters for those file types and go down the list. Click on the name and it will tell you what the limitations are ont he free download.

no that  wont work. All that does is bring everything up in the folder that ISN'T that file type. If you look at the file name it still says filename.wmv. You have to convert the actual file. See a WMV file is very small compressed so it doesn't take alot of space on AG's site so their bandwidth doesn't get used up. An mpeg file is bigger then an WMV and a AVI is bigger then MPEG but MPEG-1 is the v-cd format.

no problem. I had to figure out all of this on my own. I converted stuff from fuelies.net that were in real media format which is another small compressed format which is why so many sites use it to save space. It was trial and error to find something that would convert from real media to mpeg and i figured out how to do the real media audio files into mp3s in the process. You'll figure it out.
