any really good pics of the guys... all 3 of them in one shot... from any of the past shows during GALB? screen captures from the DVD, etc... that you'd be willing donate for a new board banner? i'm starting to re-design again... i have this idea for a timeline banner..

If you can tell me how to convert something called a PowerDVD file (never even seen that format before, but it automatically wrote to my hard disc in that format...strange...) to a windows media player file then I can take caps for you Eva. But until I figure out how to convert the file I'm at a loss...

The file will PLAY on WMP but when I try to import it into movie maker it tells me the file isn't supported...

Were you gonna make the banner yourself, Eva? Just out of interest because I have an unhealthy obssession with Goo graphics, haha. I also wondered about those funky blinkies you always have in your sig. Do you make them yourself?  :)

i think the powerdvd file is the DVD file itself (best quality)

i'm sure you can get screen caps from Power DVD - its on the little control thingy, press the letter "C" to capture the screen

But it doesn't OPEN in PowerDVD because I don't have that programme!

It opens in Windows Media player but I don't think you can make caps in that... ???

I will now proceed to eat my words. Apparently it DOES open in Power DVD. Despite the fact that I didn't think I even HAD that on my hard drive...

Curiouser and curiouser!

ETA: I can't figure this damn thing out though...you click the capture button and nothing happens! Bah  >:( I prefer movie maker. I can WORK that. Well at least to some extent.

as for those blinkies... here's a site that has umpteenmillion of them... that's where i collect them...they're all over the net too...

i also forgot to tell you, you have to PASTE it somewhere, when you capture, all it does is put it on the clip board, so open up a program like photoshop, paint, paintshop pro, and paste it (crtl+v)

It was most likely installed when you installed the DVD player on your comptuer

My mother has a saying.

"The fog's clearing much thicker". Ahahahaha.

But seriously, I think I do understand better now. Didn't realise I had to PASTE it, Movie Maker does that FOR you...

Anyway I ended up getting distracted last night and just spent hours watching Goo videos, haha. Entertaining but not exactly productive. I watched the whole of LIB again. Because you guys got me started. Yeah, it's all your fault...*points finger at fellow WOGers*

:P ;)

OK, I'm going to try & give this a shot at explanation for Rogue but I apologise in advance if this makes no sense whatsoever......

Run PowerDVD (your dvd playing program) and in the background have your image editing program open as well but minimized.

Take the screen-caps you want from the DVD by pausing on the scene you're after and clicking the PRINTSCREEN/SysReq button on your keyboard (should be just near the backspace key).

Maximize your image editing program and PASTE the image onto your canvas.

Then go to SAVE (or Save For Web) and select your preferred image file format.

I find that if you use the screen-cap button that comes with PowerDVD it saves them in a weird file format in some weird abyss-like place on your hard-drive.

Hope this helps!

Yes, I found that too! I was like "Where did you put the pics?!" *scanning the entire harddrive and finding NOTHING that might resemble GGDs screen captures...*

Anyway, thank you very much for taking the time to explain...I'll try that later on when I get some spare time. I'll let ya know if it works.  :)

Good luck with it!

I must admit that it's a very tedious process, but for all intents and purposes - I found it works!   ;D

Ok, I followed your instructions and they SEEMED to work...but when I saved the file as a JPEG, then tried to open it again...it had saved the file as just...BLACK! It was a lovely screen cap of John and Robby rockin' out during 'Naked' but for some reason the image was saved as, just, BLACK.

This is giving me a headache, lol.

UrbanandGoofan, could you please explain to me how to save the screencaps in JPEG format? When I tried to do it, it saved the pics as a black screen... :'(

Title: Re: Does anyone have...
Post by UrbanAndGooFan on Mar 5th, 2005, 8:44pm
Mine automatically save in bitmap format, I just converted them into JPG. It was easier than fighting with Power DVD lol. I dont have much luck with saving them right to JPEG format either.

Title: Re: Does anyone have...
Post by RogueUK on Mar 5th, 2005, 8:45pm
Well I have to copy and paste them into PSP when I cap 'em...and I just thought saving them as JPEGs made the most sense...but like I said...black screen... ???

Title: Re: Does anyone have...
Post by UrbanAndGooFan on Mar 5th, 2005, 8:53pm
That's really wierd that it just goes to a blank screen, but sometimes mine wont even take screen caps in JPEG format. I'll be sitting there thinking im getting all these great screen caps, then ill look and theres nothing there  :-/
