Title: Re: Old Goo vs New Goo Post by jovi_goo on Feb 2nd, 2005, 4:36pm Am I allowed to be in the middle? HeHe... I'm not the biggest fan of their old punk music, but I'm not all about Iris either. -Kelly |

Title: Re: Old Goo vs New Goo Post by boynamedgoo on Feb 2nd, 2005, 5:03pm Old Goo easily. It's nothing against their newer stuff, the old stuff is just that awesome. And for reference, I think we draw the line here at "Name". Everything off ABNG other than "Name" plus "Lazy Eye" goes to "Old Goo", and "Name" + everything since is "New Goo", IMO. |

Title: Re: Old Goo vs New Goo Post by SassyMay on Feb 2nd, 2005, 5:44pm I think they have been the better ever since Hold Me Up up until now! I'm not a big fan of jed and first release the only songs i like on jed are James Dean and up Yours. |

Title: Re: Old Goo vs New Goo Post by FizzyGoo on Feb 2nd, 2005, 7:10pm I'm a fan of both. I love that they have evolved so much but still retained the spirit of their music. Jed is not usually my first CD choice (haha sorry...) but I can appreciate it anyway. |

Title: Re: Old Goo vs New Goo Post by Sarah on Feb 2nd, 2005, 9:23pm I love it all. I have my favourites, but that's just based on my personal preference, not which era it's from. They're scattered throughout. There's a Goo song for every mood. That's what I love about it. :D |

Title: Re: Old Goo vs New Goo Post by girlnamedgrace on Feb 3rd, 2005, 6:20am Yeah, it depends on my mood too. They just span all these different feelings or headspaces you go through so there's always something to listen to. Personally, I love it all, even if the next album consists solely of Mike banging a tintray off his head! ;D |

:hahaha: Now THAT would be interesting! Poor Mike might get a headache though. I have to stay, I think there is something to be said for both styles. I love the old stuff (two words. 'Sex Maggot'. Genius. Ok, that was three words. LMAO) I love how powerful and raw some of the old songs sound, but at the same time some of John's more recent 'soft rock' songs are absolutely beautiful - melodic, poetic and they can really get you right here *indicates heart* ya know? The great thing about the Goos is that there will always be a mix of two distinct styles. John is the troubled poet where Robby is the upbeat rocker. In interviews I have heard them talk about how Robby is the 'anchor' of the group, sticking closer to the original sound while John is the one who likes to experiment. And I think that's cool. There aren't many other bands I can think of where two songwriters with such different styles can co-exist happily, and produce records with such 'flow' and coherence. There is something for everyone, and a Goo song for every mood. I think for them to rigidly force themslves into being 'one thing or the other' would really detract from the group. I guess what I'm saying is, to some extent, we don't really have to choose. There will always be the ballads and there will always be Robby's crazy punk-y numbers. While admittedly the sound is more polished, we still get the best of both worlds. ;D |

Title: Re: Old Goo vs New Goo Post by pOGo on Feb 3rd, 2005, 8:46am well...there punk sounds like 80's post punk which is not my fave usually...but i like the goo's stuff alot. I think the newer stuff are much better...my fave is ABNG...up beat but not punk... leave the punk to the 70's era is my motto.... :-/ |

Title: Re: Old Goo vs New Goo Post by niki_u_goo on Feb 7th, 2005, 10:34am I must say, I am also in the middle. It really depends what kind of mood I am in. I was just watching Twister on VHS and the have a preview for the soundtrack. They show Long Way Down for a little bit, I love that song. I love the rock songs, but also like the softer songs. Again, it just depends what mood I am in. |

Title: Re: Old Goo vs New Goo Post by Livyanna on Feb 8th, 2005, 9:52am My favorite album is SSCW, so I guess I am in the middle. I don't really listen much to the albums on either end of the spectrum.... FR, Jed or Gutterflower. |

I think we have similar Goo taste, I just get that impression anyway. ;) I have LIB in my CD player at work, Gutterflower in my car, EOAC in my CD player in the bathroom (to listen to while I shower) and ABNG in the living room. All my bases are covered. ;D |

Are you INSANE? lol, Sympathy is awesome. But i have to say i'm undecided. I guess i lean more to the newer stuff coz thats wot i got hooked on, and also because i just love acoustic songs. Someone just sitting there with his/her guitar, singing their own simple songs with no added affects or anything is what i love. But the old stuff is also amazing ???lol |

Title: Re: Old Goo vs New Goo Post by googirldownunder on Feb 9th, 2005, 5:54am Honestly, I prefer the newer, more recent GGD material than old stuff. I appreciate and respect that "First Release" and "Jed" were where the band started, but I have such respect and admiration for their evolution. To see how the band has progressed, and particularly how John as a songwriter has matured and grown. The fact that his musicianship has also flourished, from playing punk tunes (most likely using standard chord progressions) to developing his own tunings. The history of this band and the fact that the life of it has lasted for more than a dozen years is just phenomenal. They are such an amazing and awe-inspiring group! ;D |
