Title: Most memorable moment
Post by blessed_by_goo on Jan 16th, 2005, 10:19pm
Okay  u GOObers....here's the scoop. Last week or so I read an awesome thread about a girl who went to the small radio show Tsunami benfit  in CA. Her story had me right in the car with her on the way to the show, forgetting the checkbook....Then when Johnny bent in front of her and said, "hey how's it goin?" I HAD FRIGGIN BUTTERFLIES!!!! I was clutchin the seat on the way to the show and gigglin thru the story and blushin red at the end. So I figure that would be a cool thread right? So give us your most memorable moments. Whether it was a one on one or somethin cool they did at a show or whatever.... but put us right there with ya....... I'll go get the popcorn :gflower:

oh wow.... hm...*thinking*

the one that popped up first is when john was sick yet still did the show.  the goos were opening for bon jovi over near indianapolis.

the day started off waiting patiently for my friend's train to arrive from st. louis.  she was only 3 hours late!  ::)

so we rush to the car as we still had a 3 hour drive ahead of us.  of course we were blaring goo goo dolls and bon jovi from the car stereo.    talk about "back roads" holy cow! LOL  normally  i stay with the speedlimit with it comes to country roads, but we were late as it is, so lets just say thank god the roads were clear of a lot of heavy traffic! LOL

had to take a detour even onto the dirt country roads! sheesh!  all the time, we're still laughing and having a great time singing at the top of our lungs!

once we actually arrived in noblesville (or something like that), we hit the traffic...*slams on the brakes*  so to compensate, we turned the music up even louder! LOL  the cars surrounded us obviously knew we were having a great time, and i can remember one of the ladies to the right of us singing along to, iris.  heeeeeeeee! LOL

so we whip into the parking lot as fast as those damn speed bumps let us,  practically ran to the box window (as we had, 'will call" tickets from my friend who has connections with bon jovi).  we rush in, hit the bathroom, and as we're walking to our seats (we were "outside" the seating area still) I hear the goos start!  *scream*  I'm practically SHOVING my ticket at security, "let me in!" LOL  I'm jumping around and my friend just says, "Go for it" as she knew I'm a huge goo fan.

I think I was really the only person standing in our section.  I was about 18 rows back on greg's side.    You could tell John wasn't feeling well, but he was such a trooper and made it a memorable evening.

My Goo life has been filled with many memorable experiences, but here are my favorites:

1.  My first up close Goo show.  This was Roseland Ballroom, Nov 02, and I will never forget the elation I felt when the red curtain went up and the first drums of "Naked" started...just amazing.

2.  That same night, meeting the guys.  Robby was just so incredibly cool, and I was so excited afterwards.

3.  The next morning, when I called the number on my boss's Parliment contest entry to hear "CONGRATULATIONS!  You and a guest will be partying with the band!"  I screamed for 20 minutes!

4.  When my friend Jaymeson called me from Thursday on the Square in Buffalo and put Robby on the phone.  Even tho he was so busy with his bands,  he still took two minutes out to talk to me, just a fan, and that was friggin AMAZING!

5.  Broadway on July 4th.

See?  I have so many, I can never pick just one!!

Wow....I have too many awesome moments with the guys to list them all....but my absolute favorite had to be getting to hang out at a local bar on the beach with John and Robby.  They were in town on the Bon Jovi tour, and my friend and I managed to wind up at the same bar they were hanging out at.  Lots of chatting, took some great pictures, and had some good laughs.  I wish I could hang out like that every time I got to see them!

Well, I got so flustered that I just patted him on the shoulder, let out a nervous laugh, and walked away.  However, I never made that mistake again!  The next several meetings were actually filled with conversation and those great Robby hugs.   ;D

Envy's a sin, right?

Good job I'm not Christian then!

I can't believe some of you guys have actually met them several times. I'd settle for just once, just ONCE!  :-/

If I ever did meet them, I'd probably scare them lol. I'd do something irredeemable, like bursting into tears or something. I know I'd embarass myself horribly, anyway!

Seriously though, great stories guys...and I am happy for you, insane jealousy aside  ;)

PattyGoo, Robby hugged you?!

That makes you a demi-God in my eyes  ;D You know that Robbyness is next to Godliness, right?

The one time I met them was at a meet-and-greet at Best Buy in NYC, so it was really rushed, but hey, it was still one of the best moments of my life.

We had gone to see them at the Today show earlier that day, so I had a sign that said "You're the closest to Heaven that I'll ever be and I don't wanna go home to DIGHTON, MA" (which is where I'm from, duh) and I brought it with me for them to autograph.

So I got up close to them and almost died (of course) and Johnny read the poster and said in the most sincere voice "Thank you for being here". Here they were, spending their entire day signing autographs for hundreds of fans, and he's thanking ME for being there! It just meant so much to me.

So yeah I shook their hands and chatted EXTREMELY briefly and went on my way. I hope some day I'll actually get to talk to them for real, but for now I can settle with my happy memorable moment.  ;D

Rogue,

You'd not burst into tears.  In my experiences meeting the guys they are always so humble and gracious that you don't even feel like you are talking to a "rock star".

Funny quick story:

When I met John the first time, I only had my ticket for him to sign.  Now, I'd already had Robby and Mike sign the FRONT of the ticket, but as I'm mesmerized by John's beauty (hey, I said they were humble but he's friggin gorgeous) John signs the BACK of the ticket.  So, I glance at it and say "OMG YOU RUINED IT!!"  So, he looks at me, all confused like, and says, "I ruined it? How?"  So, I say "robby and mike signed the front but now you went and signed the back! How in the world am I going to display that?"  So he says "well, HOW?  There's no ROOOOM on the front!"  LOL So I just click my tongue and say "yes, yes there is! see? right here in this spot!"  So John clicks HIS tongue, takes my ticket back and signs JUST where I told him.  Then he gave me a huge hug and kiss, so there ya go. LOL  My friend was like "I cannot believe you just bitched at John Rzeznik"

Whoops...long post...sorry!!  ;D

Holy ....ing shit I can't believe you did that. That is so friggin funny. I bet he carries that one with him as well. I'm cramped with laughter, wipin eyes here. That was a cool moment though!!! and your right they are so mellow....about everything. They're a BIG band that still thinks small. I mean that in the sense that they havn't let it all goto their heads. On Buffalo they even say during commentary...holy shit we almost sound professional. I was thinkin to myself um, hello....when you pack in a crowd that big  I would say that um I think your professional now....what abunch of goobers. LOL

I completely believe you about them being humble and really cool guys...but I think just SEEING them in the flesh would be enough to elicit some kind of cringingly fangirlish response from me, like the tears for instance...or maybe just temporary inability to speak *imagines herself staring open-mouthed at the Goos, in awe, while the Goos get increasingly freaked out...* LOL

Or else I'd just make an idiot out of myself somehow...I have this morbid fear of looking stupid in front of them, and being 'the girl that made an idiot of herself in front of Robby'...I couldn't live with being that girl!  :-[

Heh, I loved your story, howGOOdamI, it made me laugh so much...you obviously weren't too 'mesmerised' by Johnny to speak your mind! Hehheh. You're right of course, Johnny is LUDICROUSLY beautiful. I speak from a position of total objectivity, since for some strange reason he doesn't do anything for me. (I know  :o odd, isn't it?!)

Ha, they said that? they 'almost sound professional'?? Aw, bless 'em! HOW many records have you guys sold? It may be hard for you to believe, but you DO sound professional, boys!  ;)

Sorry for going all off topic on you, blessed_by_goo. If I had a story I'd share it, but sadly I have no story... :'(

all of my Goo concerts were memorable, but this is the one that sticks out in my mind.  Rockford, IL. . .

me and my sis Tiff waited outside after the concert for like an hour and got to meet 'em!  met Mike for the first time, he was really quiet and Rzeznik and Robby for the second.  this story is really long, so i'm giving to an extremely shortened version.

Robby first:   finally gets to me and my Tiff, took a quick second to remember us from inside and say it with me now, "lunged and grabbed."  Key words: lunged and grabbed.  Didn't say a word, he just got us both in this huge bear hug shouting, "God bless you girls!"  I was completely shocked!  Now, me and Tiff are pretty damn tall, now add about 3 inches of cement, (Robby is standing on the road, we're on the sidewalk) and he literally pulled us down to him and squeezed!  So we squeezed back and he was like, "You girls rock!"  I don't remember exactly what was said after that but I asked him to sign my Goo purse i had made, said, "I'd love to," and put little antennas on his head.  Then he grabbed me in another hug!  His hand was right in between my shoulder blades and he was squeezing so I squeezed back, then he squeezed harder.  let me tell ya, it kinda hurt, but it was Robby so i can forgive. . .Then he pressed his face to mine (he was sweaty and a bit scruffy) and gave me a kiss right below my ear and again said, "God bless you!"  Then he did the exact same thing to Tiff.  She said he squeezed so hard, she thought she might choke!  Tiff said it best:  Robby wants to kill you with love.

Now, Rzeznik is making his way down the line to us and was giving out some hugs, but I am way too shy to even consider asking for one.  So, he signs this woman's Gutterflower cover and she asks for a hug.  Then her husband has nothing for him to sign so he's like, "Aww, do you want a hug, too?!"  And the guy is like, "No, that's ok."  So, in my head I'm thinking, "Dude, I'll take his hug!" and the next thing I know, the words were out of my mouth!  Rzeznik just looked at me and started laughing and turned to the guy and was like, "Give me a fucking hug!"  He gave him a big 'ol hug and security Mike was like, "Ok, that's enough of the man love!"  Too funny.  When he gets to me, he's all smiles and, "Hi, how you doing?"  He signs my purse, I told him thanks and thought that was it, but then he said, "Well, do I get a hug?"  So I'm like, "Hell yeah!"  I didn't even have to ask, he asked me!  That made it all the more special.  As if he needs to ask, right guys? Then he says, "thank you" after the hug.

there is alot more to this story so if ya get bored and want to read it, check it out here:

I will try to recall as much as I can.  It was at the Best Buy in New York.  Was planning to go see them that morning with my girlfriend but we were out the night before at a bar.  Needless to say I never made it to the show that morning. (I live in Long Island and my parents live in the city, so I stayed there)  Did not get to my parents till about 6 in the morning.  Woke up showered & drove to Best Buy.  I was one of the last people on line.  When it was my turn to go up I spoke with Robby and he was sooooooo cute.  I cant recall what we talked about but he understood that I was so hung over.  Next thing I know me , Robby and this big black guy standing behind him were laughing very loud.  So John asks what going on over here.  Robby tells him that I had to much to drink last night and I have a big hang over.  With that John stands up and gets in my face and says something to the effect that "so I should not talk very loud".  Needless to say it was very loud & his face was right in my face.  It was all very funny.   Mike said I hope you feel better.  It was a great time.

I thought I was the only one.

Yeah, it's strange. I look at Johnny, and I go "Ok, so obviously he's really, really hot..." but...nothing. I can't explain it. Just...no attraction.

I know. I'm insane.

My most memorable moment is definitely all of my Goo concerts that I attended. Especially in 2002 in Dallas, Texas, a day I'll never forget. I went behind the venue and saw their bus parked and waited for about two hours then John and Robby finally came out. ;D I got both of their autographs and was in total shock the whole time. When John signed his autograph, I couldn't think of anything to say I was in such shock that he was right in front of me. I probably seemed a little rude but I lost my speech. John, please forgive me! :) Anyway, that was the best day of my life! I have yet to attend another concert, but I'll be sure to on the next tour.

I could go on and on about all the times I've met the guys.  The first mention was obviously the greatest experience ever though...hehe.

I've gotten lots of hugs and kisses from Robby & John over the years....lots of recognition at shows (like the time John threw me his water because he realized how unbelievably hot it was down in front), backstage passes, private shows, etc.  I can just never get enough Goo.  And knowing that the guys recognize me every time, means more to me than anything in the whole world!!  They're so nice, and so down to earth.  I absolutely love that they take the time out when they can to talk to their fans, even if it is only for a second.   Gah, I can't wait for them to start touring again!!!

And of course my two FAVORITE pictures ever:

one of the most memorable goo moments for me was during the Dizzy tour... i was totally miserable physically in the front row... i'm real short and the crowd was practically on top of me. they started playing Iris and by then i was pooped out and sad cause i couldn't dance around like usual. well... back then Nathan December was the touring guitarist and played the Iris guitar solo... i was spacing out looking towards John and the solo started... Nathan came right up to me and played that solo up close and personal... i'll never forget that    anyone who knows me here knows my deep love and appreciation for the guitar so i was grinning ear to ear... made my night!

[/img]Hi, I just joined the message board!
I have several memorable Goo moments.
A couple years ago the Goo's played at St Boneventure University, which is a 2 hour drive from Bflo. Two friends and myself drove there for the show.  For those of you who went, the gym they played in was the size of a high school gym.  My friends and I went down and stood in the front.  After the show we saw Robbie's and Johnny's relatives talking to the monks, so we followed them around the building and waited for everyone to come out, we waited 2 hours in the cold!!  First Mike came out and met with everyone, then Robbie and then Johnny.  They gave us all hugs!!!  Johnny had on this long black leather coat, it was so soft!!  He also was lifting up his shirt and showing up his abs!! OMG!!!  I forgot to bring anything for them to sign, so I had them sign my jean jacket, they wrote all over the back.  Needless to say I never will wear that jacket again, only to look at.
One of my other memorable moments was at the last Thurs in the square in Bflo this summer, a friend of mine is a good friend of Robbie's and we hung out with Robbie and his parents by the stage during the show.  We got some great pictures of him and got to chat.
Another memorable moment which was not mine was the girl that is friends with Robbie, she went to his 40th birthday party this past fall.  She flew to LA and they had his party in a bowling alley(which they rented out) down the street from where he lives, Johnny was there, of course, and then they went to a corner bar and partied all night!
And of course the most memorable moment going to the July 4 th show!!!!!!!![img]
