Title: george's song Post by girlnamedgrace on Jan 14th, 2005, 11:54am I read somewhere that when A Boy Named Goo was first released George was still in the band and had co-written the last song with John. Then when George left they re-released the album and replaced that track with the covers of 'disconnected' and 'slave girl' Does anyone know if there is any truth to this and if so where on earth can I find this? |

Title: Re: george's song Post by Saz_Goo on Jan 14th, 2005, 12:11pm Yeah, it was called Stand Alone, and Robby sings it. PM me and I can send it to you, if you'd like. ;) From the WOG information FAQ at: http://www.musicfanclubs.org/googoodolls/misc/faq.htm#3.1.5.1 "Stand Alone [was written by] George Tutuska and Robby and Johnny did not want to exploit his efforts after he was dismissed. It appeared on promotional versions of A Boy Named Goo, but was replaced with Disconnected and Slave Girl after George was fired. |

Ooh ooh, pick me, I know! ;D Um...I don't think he got on with Rzeznik. And Robby spent a long time being the go-between and then I guess they just got sick of the situation eventually and told him "Look, this isn't working out..." |

Title: Re: george's song Post by Sarah on Jan 14th, 2005, 2:48pm Ahh, I see. I had always thought that he had just left. |

Title: Re: george's song Post by buffalowing43 on Jan 14th, 2005, 6:30pm if i remember right-the last straw was that george felt he wasn't getting all the money he deserved and that pissed Johnny off so since Johnny runs the show and they didnt really get along already-it was so long right then |

Yeah that's what I heard. If you notice all their old stuff says that it was written by "the goo goo dolls" and now john takes all the credit for his and robby takes all the credit for his. I dunno what to make of this, except for maybe the band should have more say so. |

Title: Re: george's song Post by Becky on Jan 14th, 2005, 8:01pm I think that the band used to write songs together, but now they work individually because John thinks it is easier to get the idea or emotion across if it only has to go through one person as opposed to two. |

Yeah i understand that, but taking credit for an entire song is wrong in my opinion. I'm not putting down John, but when he says "words and music by Rzeznik" he's saying that we did the bass line, drum line, and the entire song. |

It may be wrong in your opinion, but presumably the band are happy with it that way, or else they wouldn't DO it that way. And it works the other way round too...Robby's songs are credited to 'Robby Takac' so does that mean he's claiming all Rzeznik's guitar parts, as though he did them himself? I mean, Robby and John have been friends, like, forever. I imagine if Robby wasn't comfortable with it he'd have told Johnny. And Mike seems like a pretty laid back kinda guy, so I imagine he's cool with it. Besides, it's kinda like stating the obvious, don't you think? I mean, all the band members are listed inside the album cover, along with which instrument they play. Wouldn't it be overkill (not to mention laborious) to list "Guitar - John Rzeznik, Bass... drums... lyrics... etc" for EVERY single song? Just my thoughts on it, dude_named_goo. :) Also...I just looked at a few of the albums...I couldn't find anywhere where it said "Words and music by John Rzeznik". Or by anyone else for that matter. In DUTG and GF, it just has the song title with whoever wrote it credited right underneath... |

Title: Re: george's song Post by DreamAway22 on Jan 16th, 2005, 4:51pm "Stand Alone" is such a great song! I think that's one of my favorite Robby songs. Too bad they didn't put it on the record. |

Yeah u make a pretty good point. I'm sure if any of the guys had a problem with it they'd speak up. I wasn't judging john or robby's character, cuz i happen to know for a fact that they are both great guys. ;) |

Title: Re: george's song Post by SassyMay on Jan 17th, 2005, 11:39am Sarah you could watch Behind the Music and find out more! But basically George wasn't getting along with John and if you take a good look at their older pictures you notice in most of them george is glaring at John out of jealousy or something like that. In other words George was a jerk and they had to fire him and you notice that as soon as they fired him they became famous according to Mike. |

Yeah that's true but i don't think them firing George is what made them famous, cuz Name was a huge hit and if I'm not mistaken, that's George playin drums on Name. |

Title: Re: george's song Post by Becky on Jan 17th, 2005, 6:49pm Yeah, but Mike made the joke that he is the reason they are famous now. |
