Hey there...huge Keith Urban fan here. He is AMAZING live. If you have the chance to see him when he's in Oz definitely do it. You will NOT be disappointed. Have you bought his new CD? It's fantastic. The man is a guitar God. Definitely go see him live. |

Title: Re: galb (australia) Post by starchild on Oct 17th, 2004, 5:09pm Hey ShanGooFan, I knew someone was a great Fan :D I don't have his CD but will have to get it, I guess I always thought he was 'straight' country but really he crosses over into other genres (duh!). It's funny the interviewer said no one realises what a great guitarist he actually is, even Tommy Emmanuel (who's like the guitar god here) pays him homage as a great player. :thumbsup: Would love to go to his concert in Feb. Im 21 and from melbourne, so great to c fellow australians on here, seems that the GGD fans in australia are unfortuantely few and far between. I have requested GALB on triple m and that seems to me the best chance of getting played. Such a shame thats there such sh*t on radio these days, lets hope it is a hit. Im gonna keep calling around to see when the dvd/cd is released here, im sure it will be, as the live in alaska dvd was eventually released. |

Title: Re: galb (australia) Post by googirldownunder on Dec 6th, 2004, 6:11am Well I work at HMV, and as yet we don't have anything on our system to say if there's a release date. One of the guys I work with, his girlfriend works at Warner, so I'll ask him if he can find anything out for me. It's very strange that they haven't even got a release date for here yet. Despite us feeling like we're rather lonely down here, I must admit that the Goo's do have a fairly solid fanbase here. |

Title: Re: galb (australia) Post by googirldownunder on Dec 6th, 2004, 6:29am Yeah, they are a mainstream pop/rock act that appeal to so many different people across all areas. I know quite a few people that like the band, they're just not obsessive about them the way I am. Strange.......... |
||
Title: Re: galb (australia) Post by Emily on Dec 6th, 2004, 6:39am I KNOW...strange it is. its like, how do they live with themselves with only their half weekly/monthly goo doses??!! haha I love this thread <3333333333333333333333333 it never dies :D |

Title: Re: galb (australia) Post by googirldownunder on Dec 6th, 2004, 6:49am Well the reason why I've not been down here posting in ages is coz I've been following and working with some Australian bands. So my time has been quite taken up with other musical entities that's left me little time or energy to check up on this place. Although I love the WOG board, I find it hard to keep up with all the posting and news, especially since I live in the Land Down Under :-[ |

Title: Re: galb (australia) Post by Emily on Dec 6th, 2004, 7:57pm thanks for that joel!! at least they have some sort of idea now........ WOOOOHOOOOOOOO iris is on triple m right now in melb!! :D hey if you guys have some spare time vote for all the goo songs you can think of here: http://www.mmmelb.com.au/music/essential/index.php its to create a list of two thousand and five essential songs...and then they have a countdown...im guessing iris has the best chance so try voting for that a few times if you can!! :) maybe we can get goo into the top 10 ??!!!!! |

Title: Re: galb (australia) Post by googirldownunder on Dec 8th, 2004, 6:45am Right now I'm working with Thirsty Merc, and I might possibly be doing some stuff with Taxiride shortly. I might also be helping out my friend's band, just a local Latin-funk outfit from Sydney doing some managing for them. I work at HMV, but the other stuff I'm doing with the bands is just volunteer (no pay :-/) and just as a way of getting experience in the industry. Well hopefully we have some sort of rough date to look forward to, I'm going to keep looking into it though. |

Title: Re: galb (australia) Post by TomOAus on Dec 19th, 2004, 11:43pm I worry about Australia following the US music scene and just listening to awful RnB. For example we have produced one of the greatest country singers of all time in Keith Urban and he barely rates a mention, which is a real shame. The goo goo dolls suffer the same, while talentless Aus Idols sell the records. Really disenchanted with the music industry |
||
Title: Re: galb (australia) Post by starchild on Dec 20th, 2004, 6:08am I here ya TomOAus, it seems like it's always driven by the media not talent, seems a shame. Keith Urban had to go O.S. to get recognition - I guess our loss is America's gain. Still an aussie spunk though :P Emma |
||
Title: Re: galb (australia) Post by TomOAus on Dec 20th, 2004, 6:32am LOL my girlfriend is obsessed with Keith Urban and somehow i dont think its for his musical talents. Ah well good luck to the guy hes made it big in USA. And to any American forumites, all Aussie guys look like him ;) |
||
Title: Re: galb (australia) Post by Emily on Dec 20th, 2004, 8:36pm i know what you mean about keith urban..... i didn't even know about him until like a month ago or so, yet all the american fans on here did...and i heard him on the radio for the first time the other day. and dont get me started on australian idol "talent" pfffft........... >:( |
||
Title: Re: galb (australia) Post by RockStarCowgirl on Dec 21st, 2004, 1:17am i have been a fan of Keith Urban for a few years now, and he is awesome, but the thing is that listening to him, you can't tell he's Aussie cos he sings the "Americanised country" music, not the outback country aussie style like kasey chambers if you get what i mean! I am happy that kasey donovan won over anthony in idol though |

Title: Re: galb (australia) Post by TomOAus on Jan 4th, 2005, 9:26am I really hope we can do it Ramone. Triple M will play Jet all day if they could, it will be hard to get the goo goo dolls on but we should all try. Its so annoying listening to the radio and the same sh*t being played. Stations like nova and triple m will play predictable stuff, i dunno if they would take a chance on the ggd...... BUT They are having some special thing on saturday where if u ring in with a donation they will aparently play ANY song u request. So lets c if they play GALB when we call..... |

Title: Re: galb (australia) [the thread that never dies] Post by googirldownunder on Feb 8th, 2005, 6:00am I was looking through "The Music Network" which is a specially released magazine for music retailers and radio stations. In there they had a release date for "Live In Buffalo" for Australia as February 7th, but honestly I think that's wrong. I haven't seen any release dates anywhere, nor is it listed with either of the 2 major retailers - HMV or Sanity. My boss (at HMV), her dad works at Warner, so I'm going to see if he can find anything out, or can direct me to somebody who might. This is getting ridiculous.......... >:( |

Title: Re: galb (australia) [the thread that never dies] Post by googirldownunder on Feb 9th, 2005, 5:17am Well I don't have a credit card, and I don't particularly like using my mum's all the time. Also there's some sort of sentimentality going on with me where I like to buy the Australian release first, THEN get the imports. Go figure....... ::) |
||
Title: Re: galb (australia) [the thread that never dies] Post by [Joelage] on Feb 14th, 2005, 8:37pm ok, You can buy it from JB-HiFi now, and they will order it in on your behalf (ie, no credit cards needed) they charge about $41 AUS, and apparently takes 6-8 weeks to come down. you have to put a minimum of $5 deposit down. I went for it because apparently there are no plans for that dvd/cd to come to australia, and i dont have a credit card etc. If i do find it cheaper from another store, i can ask for a refund and they said they can give your deposit back.. So, there you go! let me know if you find it in a store, or ordered any cheaper! |

Everytime they play GALB here, they always say... and that was Give A Little Bit Originally done by Supertramp. They bring all notations to supertramp and rarely give Goo the credit for bringin it back! They I guess assume everyone knows it's Goo. I'm ready to go call 'em and give em the dickens |

GALB has gotten lots of airtime here, don't they think we KNOW who the hell the original artist is by now. I can't tell you how many times I hear them play it and NOT mention it's GOO. I was wondering if any of you had the opportunity to see him when he was in Oz in February? He is fantastic/amazing live. He was so proud to return to his home country and have such a strong response ...he sold out every show on his tour. I know he plans to focus more on Oz now to try to grow his fan base now that he's doing so well in the US. I know it bothers him terribly that he has to work soooo hard to find a fan base in his home country. He is just so amazingly talented it just blows my mind. I would have posted this OT but with so many Aussies right here I figured it would be easier. |

Title: Re: galb (australia) [the thread that never dies] Post by googirldownunder on Apr 4th, 2005, 9:23am Hey Shannon, I work at HMV (Aus leading music/dvd retailer) and I walk past the Keith Urban CDs everyday. I keep wondering if I should give it a spin and see what it's like. I've never been much into country music - but from what I hear it's more a country/rock/pop blend. Oh and back to topic for a moment......... I've been hearing GALB every day for the last week on Mix 106.5 FM (Sydney) but it's frustrating me that Nova hasn't picked up on it. Any other GOObers here from Sydney that want to help me do a request-a-thon? |

He's not very country sounding at all which is why he appeals to me. He's a very nice blend of rock/country but in a good way ;D I'd give Golden Road a listen first, then Be Here. There are some phenomenal guitar solos on Be Here in songs like She's Gotta Be and Nobody Drinks Alone. On Golden Road check out the guitar solo in Raining On Sunday...phenomenal. Keith is beyond talented as a songwriter and guitar player. He is definitely doing what he was born to do. If you've ever seen him play a guitar it's like an extension of himself...effortless and a pure joy to him and everyone watching him play. Again ... sorry to be OT. |

I will have to check into what Warner say, but I haven't seen anything on the HMV database. Bugger really coz the Warner rep came in last week and I could've asked him..............dang it! :P PS: Long live this thread!!!!!!! :nanner: |
