We've had a lot of jokes over the years. I want to collect all our memes in one thread because I know there are tons I forget. I'm gonna save this and the next post to edit/update so we can have each meme, sample pictures if they apply, and a brief explanation of how they came to be and what they became. I need everyone's help here. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Meme: Abe Lincoln Banana Examples: Testimonies: +++++++++++++++++++++++++ Meme: Blue Tarp & Blue Cooler Buddy Summary: This originated some number of years ago (Gutterflower-era). There was scheduled to be an ~official webcast~ of a show, so several folks from the forum decided to have a chat around this event. But the stream was a total bust; the camera remained backstage the entire time and you never once saw the band. There may not have even been audio. Pretty much everyone who joined the chat was in a total panic, thinking that their computer was screwed up and they couldn't see the stream properly, but no... the only things decipherable in the entire shot were a blue tarp and a blue cooler. The next day there were a handful of tarps and coolers in peoples' usernames/avatars/signatures. Examples: +++++++++++++++++++++++++ Meme: Gage Naylor +++++++++++++++++++++++++ Meme: GooFan29 +++++++++++++++++++++++++ Meme: Name Changes Summary: This began when user "Shade" decided he no longer liked his username. He asked the administrator Shannon if he could make an announcement to let everyone know that he was changing his name so that they would know who this new name was, and whether the post could be in the main board. Shannon agreed, and thus was borne the "Name Change Thread." This thread began as a way to announce Shade's name change, but soon set off a string of users changing their names, sometimes even to other users' names in order to confuse others. The Name Change Thread became a community thread where random things were posted. It survives today in it's fourth iteration. Variations: Name changing became a staple of the WOG Gabbly chats because of the ease of changing names. This often led to glitches in the chat with members not being able to see other members or seeing multiple versions of members for extended periods of time. It was based off of the random red o on the Let Love In album cover. This led to user Shade changing to "the blue o" (which, ironically, was later present on the cover of the Let Love In: Live & Intimate cd/dvd cover), and then a series of many members changing to assorted o colors. Some include: Shannon (the yellow o), Nicole (the purple o), Mike (the black o), DWG (the green o), d.e.n.i.s.e. (the orange o), christina (the fuschia o). Variations: As time went on, users began to morph the o's into other roundish objects. Some include: Mike (the penguin o; the.canadian.o), Nicole (the purple bulb), Shade (the blue D; the cursive o?; the dead o), blessed_by_goo (the angel o), Sympathy_0 (the chocolate o), nmf016 (the stamped o), DWG (the ernest o) Testimonies: on Apr 6th, 2010, 3:17pm, nmf016 wrote:Drew changed his name and we joked about changing our names to other people's. I changed my name to Shade, Drew's old name and thought I creeped him out so I changed over to DWG for a while and then became 'the red o' because we had been talking about it. Then Drew came back, became 'the blue o' because he's a pain who copies me a lot ( ) and then others jumped on the bandwagon. Hilarity ensued. Os I recall: red, blue, green, fuchsia, purple, yellow, orange, black, white, teal, angel, chocolate The best part of the whole 'o' thing is still Nicole joining the board and becoming an o immediately. I am still convinced Nicole is an elaborate prank by Drew. |

Here's a few I can think of: Meme: The O's. Summary: I believe this began with nmf016 changing her name to "the red o" and having a red o avatar. It was based off of the random red o on the Let Love In album cover. This led to user Shade changing to "the blue o" (which, ironically, was later present on the cover of the Let Love In: Live & Intimate cd/dvd cover), and then a series of many members changing to assorted o colors. Some include: Shannon (the yellow o), Nicole (the purple o), Sympathy_0 (the brown o), DWG (the green o), laurengoo (the orange o). Variations: As time went on, users began to morph the o's into other roundish objects. Some include: Mike (the penguin o), Nicole (the purple bulb), Shade (the blue D) See also:"o taser"; name changes Here's an example of how I'll catalog them. Let me know what to add and change for this one and I'll put it in the main post. Also, anyone remember who cerulean o and angel o were? Or any other o's I forgot? What other memes do you all remember? Meme: Name changes Summary: This began when user "Shade" decided he no longer liked his username. Variations: Name changing became a staple of the WOG Gabbly chats because of the ease of changing names. Abe Lincoln banana. I don't remember all of the background behind that though. I just quote people on it in my signature, and make .gifs. Of course who could forget Blue Tarp and Blue Cooler Buddy: Some number of years ago (Gutterflower-era) there was scheduled to be an ~official webcast~ of a show, so several folks from the forum decided to have a chat around this event. But the stream was a total bust; the camera remained backstage the entire time and you never once saw the band. I don't even remember if we got audio. Pretty much everyone who joined the chat was in a total panic, thinking that their computer was screwed up and they couldn't see the stream properly, but no... the only things decipherable in the entire shot were a blue tarp and a blue cooler. Naturally there were a handful of tarps and coolers in peoples' usernames/avatars/signatures by the next morning. I think it was a coping mechanism. I still have a CD somewhere with that video clip on it. Whoever sent me that, god bless you.

Okay, so I had to look up the word "meme". But I think I can identify "angel o". I think that was blessed_by_goo I thought the orange o was d.e.n.i.s.e. Christina was fuschia o there was also nmf's nemesis, the cursive o There were many unique trophies. The tasers deserve a section all their own. Although they were inspired by the o phenomenon, they morphed into their own unique genre. To this day sympathy_0 has an avatar of alyssa milano wearing taser hair. The last remaining o he is. I'll have to get back to you on cerulean o and any other meme stuff I can think of. I guess all you'd have to do is go through all 4 community/name change threads, which were each something like 150 pages long. No problemo.

Haha the blue tarp thing was before I joined, I don't remember that at all. Thanks for the info! I'll keep updating the main post as I have time. Thanks for the clarification on the o's, DWG. Hard to keep them all straight. Also, if people have images related to the memes post those and I'll add them to the entries. Nice to see people back posting!

Shade, I was going through the Reckoning thread I believe, and many of the photos are still showing up fine, lots of trophies and taser characters, o waffles, and assorted kooky stuff.
