Music Review: Goo Goo Dolls sleepwalk through 'Something For The Rest Of Us' By Ron Harris (CP) – 2 hours ago Goo Goo Dolls, "Something For The Rest Of Us" (Warner Bros.) Complacency is a cruel mistress and she has found her victim in Goo Goo Dolls. The Buffalo-area band best known for making songs you can't get out of your head come up short with their latest album, "Something For The Rest Of Us." Sure, there are the medium-paced rock hooks at play. And indeed, lead singer John Rzeznik still maintains one of the best rock voices in the business. But he has no sandbox to play in here. The melodies melt away into intangibles, a morass of muddled instrument delivery and songwriting that has succumbed to vagaries. Gone are the smart musical subtleties that Goo Goo Dolls delivered with their hit songs "Iris" and "Black Balloon" a decade ago. Here they rely on formulaic chorus buildups and a soft wall-of-sound in search of a romantic comedy soundtrack. On "As I Am," Rzeznik is thrilled that his mother (daughter, lover, dog?) takes him as he is, foibles and all. It's unclear what his faults are that are being overlooked, or who is doing the overlooking. These are lazy lyrics at best. It only gets worse on "Nothing Is Real." The band sounds too tired to play at a more energetic pace, the guitar work plodding along as Rzeznik pleads "Someday I'm gonna get this right/ Gonna find a better way/ I want to lead another life." The songwriting is poor and unable to attach itself to a tangible subject or theme. Rzeznik's voice sounds fine, but good luck trying to figure out what he's singing about for the majority of these dreadfully boring tunes. CHECK THIS TRACK OUT: The title track "Something For The Rest Of Us" is the only song on this disc with a pulse. It is delivered at a slow rock ballad pace, but with the kind of vulnerability that we've grown to love about this band. When Rzeznick sings loudly "black streaks of Maybelline run down you cheeks" we are reminded why this band has been so good for so long. http://www.google.com/hostednews/canadianpress/article/ALeqM5iqdaMJZ67Hg MIrEeIXXSuVdzfcKg Boo! Hiss! I don't like this review at all and I couldn't disagree more. John is a brilliant songwriter and he purposely writes vaguely so the listener can bring their own experiences into their own interpretation.

No way! NO EFFING WAY!! BULL****! !##$@%#$#$!!!! This makes me angry, they revamped the entire album to start over again & work on it to make it better for their fans because that's the focus they have. Whatever. I don't like this at all. I couldn't agree with you more Shannon!

I think thats a really surface review. You're not supposed to know his exact situation and everything thats going on, thats the point of music - to relate to it.

| EXACTLY!!! If he told us the exact meaning of every song. Why he wrote it, who it's based on or for, it would lose it's relatability because then it would be too specific. I think his lyrics are brilliant and stand the test of time. This reviewer probably likes Justin Beiber.
