One awesome Goo Street teamer (YouTube name Kayekae) recorded two of the new songs at the Honda Ice Skating event last night. She posted the YouTube link on Twitter this morning and Robby reposted it. Thanks Goo Street Teamer (Kaykae) for recording and sharing these with us. As I Am http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rwmm17xeLgY The Sweetest Lie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbTYS1nw4YA&feature=channel What do you think? I'm finding The Sweetest Lie to be very catchy.

I've got to be honest.. I'm not loving the new tracks As I Am sounds too like.. it's been done before? And The Sweetest Lie seems like it would belong on one of their older older albums. Oh well! I can't wait for the cd, I usually love everything on it! The songs are good and I like them but they just don't blow me away like here is gone, symapthy, truth is a whisper, etc do. Love the boys!

I say this cautiously, but I think I like both of the new songs. I'd really love some studio recordings before I make up my mind though.

Brace yourselves... I really liked "The Sweetest Lie". As Goo songs go, it's different. I like the driving rhythm, the range in John's voice (it's not monotone like some of the recent songs were). It's got a catchy back-up singalong thing goin' on. Speaking as an old fart, maybe I need the faster songs to keep me movin', I dunno. I liked it. Damn, I'm such a kid. I'd have to listen to the other one some more, but as a one-off listen, I definitely preferred "The Sweetest Lie". listened to them both a second time, and yup, Sweetest Lie makes me move my keyster, and bop my head. It sorta reminds me of songs I heard back when I was a kid...in the 60's...I shouldn't have said that huh. The 60's, jeez. anyone remember bubblegum? nah, not the stuff ya chew...

| Don't small font that, it's true My friend & I listened to them last night and that was our first reaction... it sounds like a rock song right out of the 60's. And not in a bad way! It's definitely the better of the two songs IMO.

They're not bad songs, but I don't listen to the goos for songs like these. I enjoy songs from there you are, fallin down, long way down, naked, name, dizzy, before it's too late, big machine, etc. These songs make me think of the 70s and there's nothing unique about them. I was planning to buy the album, but after listening to these 2 songs, I don't think I would. I own all of their albums + EOAC, minus greatest hits and first release. This will be the first new album by them that I will not buy. However, if they pull out another big machine or let love in...even if it's one song, then I will buy it.

It's funny how we all like different albums. I'd buy this, but I never bought LLI. Different strokes.

I think it's safe to assume one of these will be the first single. By the time the Improv Ice show airs, they will probably have released a single and it makes sense to promote the current single on national television. Lyrics as I hear them. Anyone hear something different? Of course, these could definitely be different than what's on the studio versions. The Sweetest Lie You play your part so easily, you fooled yourself again. With your lipstick smeared across some face you'll never see again. And I sat there in the corner working back my memories And I wondered if the time would come when you'd get around to me. (oh oh oh oh oh oh) Living the sweetest lie (oh oh oh oh oh oh) Living the sweetest lie Baby, it’d be electric every moment that we’d share But the lights went out when I realized you never even cared. So I picked myself back up, I didn't know where I had been. And the thing that makes it seem so wrong is I want you back again. (oh oh oh oh oh oh) Living the sweetest lie (oh oh oh oh oh oh) Yeah, come on baby, give me love (oh oh oh oh oh oh) Living the sweetest lie. (oh oh oh oh oh oh) Yeah, come on baby, give me love You know you'll never be taken Your love will never be taken now And now you're tired of wakin You’re tired of wakin alone (oh oh oh oh oh oh) Living the sweetest lie. (oh oh oh oh oh oh) Yeah, come on baby, give me love (oh oh oh oh oh oh) Living the sweetest lie. (oh oh oh oh oh oh) Yeah, come on baby, give me love As I Am Yeah, I tried so hard to make it You know I watched it slip away And the hardest thing we face Is the silence of the space At times I feel so empty through the day. Can you make it through the darkness? Can we make it through the day? And now that I’ve found you again You always find my way Calling out for you, you know You heal these empty days And it's all because you take me as I am And it's all because you take me as I am You know I run to find the answers What I need to find is you And I don’t need anything No, I don’t need anything Because you know you always take me as I am You know you get me through the darkness You know you get me through the day. And now that I’ve found you again You always find my way. Calling out for you, you know You heal these empty days And it's all because you take me as I am And it's all because you take me as I am And now that I’ve found you again You always find my way Calling out for you, you know You heal these empty days And it's all because you take me as I am And it's all because you take me as I am And it's all because you take me as I am

I think The Sweetest Lie is different in both sound and topic. And I totally welcome that change. I think with LLI, John tried so hard to make these giant larger than life deep meaningful (in his mind) songs that they lost all of the fun in music. I like that this is just a fun song about some guy chasing after a girl when he knows it's a stupid idea. I didn't fall in love with this band because I thought they were trying to save the world... At the risk of sharing far more than I care to about myself, As I Am really kind of hits home for me. To me, it has a much more realistic emotion to it than all the weather references in LLI. I can relate to the feeling of being incredibly grateful to someone who has gotten you through a really bad time by just accepting you and letting you be who you are infinitely more than 'your love's a gathered storm I chased across the sky'. I think they're both very different songs from anything they've written before (except that As I Am has an 'It's Over' sound to it), but it's a welcomed change for me.

Excellent analysis, and thanks for transcribing the lyrics Nicole. When I listened to the songs, I didn't get that deep into the lyrics, so the fact that you took the time to do that is much appreciated. There are a few parts that I can't make out the words very well, but it seems like you're pretty close to what he says in both songs. I have to say that I really like the bridge and the break before the final chorus in The Sweetest Lie. I enjoy the way this song has a different structure than usual.
