I think you are right, it does change the song. I like the "you" version better.

In one of the studio videos on the bonus Gutterflower site, you can hear different lyrics being sung to the tune of Here is Gone. So it wouldn't surprise me if those were the original lyrics he wrote to Can't Let It Go and then changed them later in the recording process.

I definitely thinks he changes things around. I'm sure certain words just end up flowing better so he replaces them as he sees fit.
