I'm kinda meh about the already officially released songs. I understand why they might want to re-release them, considering that the earlier CDs are harder to get hold of and that most people who listen to the "new" Goos maybe haven't heard anything from their previous records. On the other hand, I'm excited to actually have an official relase of the other songs. I'm wondering what Wait For the Blackout is gonna sound like, like if they've re-recorded it. And I'm also excited about having the music videos in good quality, as well as the clips from Red Rocks. I'm sort of disappointed about how few of the live clips are included though. [edit] BTW, I just thought about this yesterday; I myself would have wanted really rare tracks, like, say, In Your Blood, but I honestly don't think the Goos know that we have those kind of songs.

Quote:Robby: You know, we don't know yet, really. We've been spending a lot of time looking at a list of archival footage that's available to use from Warner Brothers...stuff from televison, VH1, older stuff that we had done years ago, and live recordings from PBS, those kind of places. So we really have quite a collection of unreleased live versions. We're gonna look through that list, and I think we talked about having a DVD and a couple of CDs package with, possibly, interactive software. That kind of stuff. We're pretty excited about it. |
| Checks list. Archival footage? No Anything from VH1? No PBS? Nope 'Collection' of unreleased live versions? 1-2 songs is not a collection. And you had lots of potential here to do something fun and off the wall like including your old cover song mash ups or "Name" from Cleveland 07 or the AC/DC cover. Maybe we'll all be surprised and American Girl will be the version with Vanessa Carlton or this version of All Eyes On Me will have something amazingly unique. Probably not though. DVD? Check. Couple cds? 1 does not equal 2 Interactive software? I guess a dvd menu is kinda interactive... Eh, not gonna pick at that too much, because I had no expectations. Quote:An expanded deluxe package will rarities galore will surface in the new year. |
| galore: adj. In great numbers; in abundance: “with balloons and hot dogs . . . and fireworks galore” rarity: n. pl. rar·i·ties 1. Something rare. 2. The quality or state of being rare; infrequency of occurrence. 3. Not album tracks [the nmf addition] Finding an unreleased song on the Goo Goo Dolls' Greatest Hits, Vol 2 was a rarity. Quote:Also expected in early 2008 will be "greatest hits Vol. 2," which will include new recordings, remixes, a plethora of rarities to include B-sides, some unexpected cover versions of some of the band's favorite songs and more. A DVD/MVI disc of live footage and extras will also be included in the deluxe package with a complete concert from their show at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado in June of 2007. |
| New recordings? No Remixes? Remix. Singular. And we all know the Feel the Silence remix treatment. Unexpected covers? Covers, yes. Unexpected, no, seeing as they are all previously released songs on proper albums, except for I Wanna Destroy You and possibly American Girl. Complete Red Rocks show? No. Unless they played a second show that day that consisted of only 6 songs. Quote:J: As for the rarities disc, we’re digging through piles of recordings, trying to find cool stuff and fun stuff. That album will be more fan-oriented. We don’t know yet what all the tracks will be. We’ve got some B-sides and some acoustic things we’ve been listening to. There’s a lot of video material that we hope to stitch together as well. |
| Fan-oriented (from the nmf dictionary): For the fans who already own all or nearly all albums and actually listen to the entire albums; not for the casual listener who only buys albums for singles B-sides? A couple Acoustic things? No Video material that would require stitching together? No. Exact opposite, actually. You hacked out chunks of the live concert and made the music video set incomplete. Quote:It will be followed up in February with a Vol. 2 full of with B-sides, rarities, remixes, and some new tracks. |
| February? No. B-sides? A few (but too few) Rarities? We'll give you the Iris demo for now. This may be taken away once I hear it though. Remixes? Singular. And this too may be taken away New tracks? LOL Quote:Q: This album is called "greatest hits Volume One." Are you expecting to write enough hits to fill a second volume anytime soon? JR: That was the record company. I don't know why they wanted to call it "Volume One." I think the idea was to put out a "Volume Two" with oddities and rare stuff, but the name wasn't my idea. |
| Oddities? No Rare stuff? Jury is still out on the Iris demo Quote:A second collection of rarities, B-sides, remixes, a complete live concert DVD and lots more will be assembled into a deluxe package and planned for release early in 2008. |
| Rarities? See above B-sides? See above Remixes? See above Complete concert? no Lots more? Lots more of album tracks being recycled... Early 2008? Just barely in the most liberal sense. So... huge disappointment. When this disc was brought up, I thought about it sensibly. I know I'm a big fan, I know I have heard and seen things that the average fan doesn't even know exists. I was prepared to get a lot of B-sides and 'rare' tracks that I've had and listened to for years and I would be understanding of that. But I was also expecting to get a completely off the wall random track or two. Again, we've all heard that they're a low out put band and they don't have much that they don't put out on albums, but we know there are demos with alternate lyrics, we know there's a few unreleased songs, we know there are some wacky live songs. Have a sense of humor and throw something new (old) out there for your fans. It doesn't even have to be good. We know you think Tuesday blows, you can even title the song "Tuesday (This Sucks)". It's supposed to be a B-side album, not a collection of songs that will least offend a critic. This was the one opportunity stop taking everything so seriously, to put something out there without giving a shit what the commercial public thought, and just let the real fans celebrate the hits and misses of the past. And the video stuff is just kinda... blah. If you're going to give us the music videos, give us the complete set. If you're going to give us live performances, give us the complete show or give us singular remarkable performances or give us something obscure. Do it right. I know people will read this and reply (or think) that I'm so ungrateful and I'm not a real fan and that I only say negative things, and fine, think whatever you want. But I didn't just have impossible expectations for this album, the quotes above, including some straight from John and Robby, are what gave me some expectations. They really hyped up this album, and apparently got lazy and gave us nothing worth getting excited over. I have never seen a rarity disc comprised of mostly album tracks and if they think any real fan needs to buy a rarity disc to be aware of album tracks, they have no idea what being a legitimate fan of their band is. I truly believe this band has a remarkable career and history, even if I don't particularly like a certain portion of it. GHV1 and GHV2 could have been an opportunity to showcase both the commercial success and the interesting and unknown quirks of the band if it had been done with even a little bit of care, but both discs are sloppily put together and this second disc is an insult to their career and their fans.

If there hadn't been hype or prior talk of this album none of us would have had any expectations and then this probably would have been a great tracklist. But it was so hyped as the album for the fans with rarities and b-sides and what not. It just doesn't live up to the hype making it disappointing. And Nicole, we all know you're a "real" fan. You may not always like their decisions but you're still a "real" fan. You've probably been around here longer than most of us. So you're allowed to express your disappointment and still remain a fan.

| Oh, that part wasn't for you or pretty much anyone else who is an active participant on this board. Just for the occasional run-ins I'll eventually have to clarify with.

How did I go from content to disappointed about this? Oh, I know. Nicole's post of DOOM. The worst part is that it's all pretty much true. :/ I'm trying to focus on the positive part of this; we get something, at least. I'm still in agreement with my previous post about having the rarer songs on an actual CD. And I like the cover. *thinks happy thoughts*

| I don't know if I'm supposed to be pleased or sad by my influence. Didn't mean to bring you down, just commiserating with anyone else who is already down... I personally would rather have nothing that something that's crap. I guess, if I'm offered nothing, I have nothing to be bothered by. Being offered something crappy when it had potential to be superior just seems like a slap in the face.
