Virgin Radio interview 3/12

I found this Virgin Radio interview with John which I'm fairly certain was done 3/12

Now, if you don't want to read my current rant, stop reading now...

I've held my tongue on this topic for a while, but I hate how John has compared the UK shows to the US over the past two years.  He has repeatedly said how high energy and amazing and loyal the fans are in the UK compared to in the US, but he's comparing apples and oranges.

In the UK, they play a handful of shows at relatively small venues, mostly GA.  These shows usually sell out due to their size.  Of course, the 'hard core' fans are going to be more likely to have tickets and wait all day to get to the front.  The venues they play in the US are usually larger corporate venues with assigned seating and venues that give away premium seating to people with connections or a lot of money (oh, and hello, VIP tickets) who might not care at all about the band, meaning the US fans who are just as loyal and energetic as the UK fans are pushed to the sides and the back.  Now, I've never been to a show in the UK so I can't be entirely certain that it's not earth-shatteringly amazing, but when John compares fans like this, I always sort of take it as a slap in the face.  I also find it kind of ridiculous that he claims the US fanbase gets bored in 6 months when it is the only market which has supported the band for 22 years.

(Canadians, I have no idea where you fit into this whole equation.  I will work on categorizing you appropriately in the future. Cheesy)

Talk.  It's only 4 minutes and some change.

Brief studio talk, US/UK comparisons, cooking, nothing earth shattering.

I don't think it is fair for any band to compare their fans from country to country, especially between their home country and a country they tour through as much as their home country.

I don't have access to hearing this interview so I can't listen to his tone (not that that could tell me anything lol), but...I wouldn't hold too much into what any artist says when talking about just how great the audiences are...no matter where. The bands want warm, happy bodies to show up @ ALL their shows. They are gonna say stuff that the listeners (audiences) what to hear. The GGDs aren't blind/stupid, they know they have a great loyal following in the US.  MO, the UK fans are thrilled beyond anything to see American bands right @ their home..

Oops about the Ina comment, I thought you were suggesting that John was poking fun at her. never mind that one.

"Soon we realized that after doing this together for so long, we developed some talents that as a group tend to come naturally. We realized that we had a rapport among us and in that rapport was power.

"And we realized that our day jobs (as the Goo Goo Dolls) didn't suck as bad as we had thought," he said, laughing (Robby).
