The Next Great American Band: Finale Recap Friday, December 21, 2007 The Next Great American Band wrapped up its first and almost certainly final season tonight. The outcome wasn't a huge surprise to anyone who watched the entire season, and it was a fairly well-packaged final hour of TV. I'll tell you one thing – I'm going to miss Dicko. He might be better than Simon Cowell, in that he can be just as acidic with his wit, but he's also less of a curmudgeon. So, if you want to find out the winner of The Next Great American Band, just look below... The Clark Brothers are the winners of The Next Great American Band!!!!! It was a deserving victory. Here's how the final hour of the series went down. The show kicked off tonight with a performance from Geoff Byrd and The Likes of You that accompanied a montage of the entire season. A lot of emotion up there during that song. It's not a terrible song. Geoff Byrd has some talent. But, it was mostly just some more filler in an hour of television with only a few minutes of real content. Northmont performed Smooth by Santana with a Next Great American Band super group – Denver's horns, Sixwire's rhythm section, and The Clark Brother's slide guitar. It sounded almost exactly like the original, which is a compliment, I guess. The two main Northmont guys (lead singer and guitarist) aren't bad. The Clark Brothers - “You Are Still the Same” You see, I'm not a Christian music guy, and it just weirds me out when bands sing love songs to god, which is exactly what this song was. It's a pretty good love song; I just wish it was about some Southern hottie the lead singer met on the road. Sheila E. performed a song with an all-girl band. She's an okay singer and a good drummer. The song was pretty weak, though. Sixwire - “The Last Time” This is the same Stones cover they performed earlier in the season. They rock it pretty hard. I love the original and Sixwire did it justice again. The Goo Goo Dolls performed with Rzeznik giving a solid performance. I've never been a big fan of the Goo Goo Dolls, but they're not bad. They performed the song “Broadway.” Denver and the Mile High Orchestra - “Vehicle” They performed this earlier in the season and it sounded the same tonight. I don't want to be mean, but I was glad this was the last performance by Denver that I'll have to listen to. Right after their performance, Bowden told Denver that they were not The Next Great American Band. We also got a special Christmas performance from Light of Doom and it was perfectly amateurish. The lead singer needs to get through puberty and then figure things out. Dot Dot Dot followed with a much better Christmas performance. They were easily the third best band on the show. The medley continued with a Sixwire Christmas performance that was pretty darn good. Cliff Wagner made an appearance. Tres Bien followed with another Christmas song, this one my favorite of the bunch. Get these guys in the studio. The Clark Brothers went next with a typically good performance. Cliff Wagner went next with a rendition of “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.” Denver followed with a cheesy version of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.” Then everyone came on stage together to sing “Rock n' Roll Christmas.” Corny, but it was a good time. Even Dicko came on stage while fake snow came down from the rafters. Next, finally, came the announcement of the The Next Great American Band victor. In appropriately dramatic fashion, Bowden announced that The Clark Brothers have won The Next Great American Band. http://www.buddytv.com/articles/the-next-great-american-band/the-next-gr eat-american-band-f-15078.aspx

After watching season after season of American Idol and being frustrated with the winner at least I can say Band got the winner right. The Clarks deserved it. I'm not much into Gospel and if they did that type of album I probably wouldn't buy it but if they did a Bluegrass album I'd definitely buy that. They could give Alison Krauss and Union Station a run for their money in the Bluegrass genre. I think it's funny the writer didn't recognize the song Sheila E. song as Glamorous Life.... an old Prince song. I recognized it right away. I guess that makes me old

| No, it doesn't make you old. You just have a wider frame of musical reference than the writer. I thought the same thing when I read a previous re-cap from (I think it's) the same writer, who said they'd never heard the song, "Vehicle". I don't think this person knows any music that came out pre-1990. They wouldn't fare very well on that show "Don't Forget the Lyrics".

does anybody have the video of the goos on the band stand show? I heard they played on the finale. I never watched the show. I don't think John is a TV guy and I like them for their music.

I can't say it was one of the Goos best performances. Rusty, rushed, kinda not up to snuff. Sorry, but I have to tell the truth. And, does anyone honestly think the Clark Brothers were the best? Wow, my ears must be bad because they are the only ones that I consistantly couldn't even listen to. Thank God for tivo, I ff through them like every week! I really liked dotdotdot, and Sixwire.

I have yet to watch the final. I really did like the Clark Brothers even though they really are not my style of music. The original music is what will tell the tale for them though. I liked Sixwire as well. I thought they were very polished. Dot I couldn't wait for them to leave. The singer ruined it for me. I guess I just don't understand American Idol. I think this kind of a show is far better than AI.

I'm glad the Clark Brothers won. They were the best band in the competition in my opinion.
