The Next Great American Band Blog by John Rzeznik A Surprising Week of Billy Joel I'm going to the airport and I was just thinking about last night. It was pretty surprising what went down. The bands are doing Billy Joel this week and it turned out to be pretty interesting how they interpreted the songs. I think it's a stretch for a lot of the bands to play that kind of material. But some of them did it really, really well. Seriously! The competition is getting better and better. It was pretty surprising what went down. They really started to own it. In my opinion, I think the winner is still up in the air because some of the bands last night were really amazing. But some of them didn't put in nearly as great a performance as I had hoped for. Of course, it isn't up to me who wins. What I really want is to be able to help the bands get to the next round. It's interesting because some of the bands have taken our advice and it's worked to their benefit. But, when you're young and talented and on TV, there's always the risk of falling in love with your own reflection. I don't mind if people boo me but don't boo me until you listen to what I have to say. I was being nice to Lauren last week but she's obviously too fragile and spoiled for the music business, you know? She should stop being such a prima donna. It wasn't like I was beating on her for the sake of beating on her. All I said is, "You really have to learn how to sing better." It's weird because I'm getting paid to give my opinion but, if I don't gush, people get so upset. We live in a generation where everyone gets a trophy just for participating. Someone's going to win and someone's going to lose. That's just life! My advice to everybody is just to stay humble, focus on your music and forget about being a rock star. Make good music and the rest will come. Fox's The Next Great American Band airs Fridays at 8 pm/ET. http://community.tvguide.com/blog/Celebrity-Blogs/Great-American-Band/80 0060093?forumID=%20800060093

| This almost has be convinced he didn't write this. I can't believe he would say something like that even if he thought it. Maybe it's just easier to write something than say it...

Yeah I was a little surprised by that part, but it was funny. It looked to me like he started off writing it not really knowing what to say (he wrote the same exact sentence twice) and then he just went off on a rant.
